The Pentagon announced that the U.S. killed 150 Islamic State (ISIS) fighters in an airstrike targeting eastern Syria during the federal government shutdown Saturday. A statement from U.S. Central Command, which is responsible for U.S. troops in the Middle East, said that the airstrike hit one of the last areas under Islamic State control near the Syrian border with Iraq.
The terror group surrendered control of 98 percent of its territory in the region and currently occupies only two percent of land near the Syrian city of Al-Shaafah, where the strike occurred.

ISIS and al-Qaeda leaders are dropping like flies!
(CBS) –The Pentagon says two U.S. airstrikes in Syria last week killed 11 al Qaeda operatives, including one with ties to Osama bin Laden and other senior al Qaeda leaders.
A spokesman, Navy Capt. Jeff Davis, said a single airstrike on Feb. 3 killed 10 operatives in a building used as an al Qaeda meeting site.
This was the the first counterterrorism offensive under President Donald Trump, and the first combat death under the new administration.
One U.S. service member was killed and three were wounded in a raid against a group of senior Al Qaeda leaders in central Yemen, officials said.
The U.S. Central Command said in a statement Sunday that another service member was injured in a “hard landing” in a nearby location.
“We are deeply saddened by the loss of one of our elite servicemembers,” Commander of U.S. Central Command Gen. Joseph Votel said in a statement. “The sacrifices are very profound in our fight against terrorists who threaten innocent peoples across the globe

It didn’t take long, Trump is already delivering on another major promise he made on the campaign trail and in his inaugural speech: the complete and total destruction of ISIS.

I’ll note that there is some debate as to whether or not Trump made such a promise for rhetorical purposes, or if he actually plans on banning Muslim immigration. Admittedly, it would be nearly impossible to actually screen if someone if Muslim (after all, how hard is it to lie about what religion you practice?). In that case, it’s much more likely that the immigration ban wouldn’t be specifically targeted towards Muslims, but citizens from countries that tend to export a lot of terrorists to the rest of the world.
