President Obama travelled to Pittsburgh
on Tuesday to speak to several thousand veterans about the ongoing
problems in the Department of Veterans Affairs and several other
veteran-related issues.
In covering the event, the military news outlet Stars and Stripes notes that it’s not the kind of outlet where the President typically finds a lot of fans.
Perhaps reflecting mixed feelings about the president
among veterans, Obama often drew tepid applause, especially for comments
about his nuclear deal with Iran.
While giving his speech, a lone, elderly veteran rose silently and
held a sign attacking the Obama administration for their part in the
Benghazi debacle (or scandal). Apparently three other veterans don’t
believe that silent protest should be allowed at a speech, because they
quite literally tackled the older man before ripping his sign away.
Undeterred the man rose again, hands held in the air to protest what he
obviously believes to be the grave injustices committed by the Obama
administration.
Because he no longer had his sign he was forced to vocalize his
displeasure and began yelling Benghazi while the President spoke. This
disruption forced security to remove him physically from the building.
Protester Has Sign Ripped Away in Strange Scene at Obama Speech

Scientists have some very specific ideas about what you’re really saying in your Facebook updates. (Photo: Getty Images)
There’s
the old saying that you can’t believe everything you read, yet many
experts in the psychology field are saying that Facebook postings can
offer insight into someone’s personality. The most recent study comes
from Brunel University in London, which found that numerous Facebookers are either dealing with low self-esteem or have traits of narcissism.
Wow.
Researchers
provided 555 Facebook members with an online survey that measured the
“Big Five” personality traits, which included extroversion, neuroticism,
openness, agreeableness and conscientiousness. Self-esteem and
narcissism were also analyzed. After gathering the data, the
psychologists concluded that frequent updates about:
One’s romantic partner most likely indicates a person who has low self-esteem
Personal and professional achievements most likely indicates a
person who is a narcissist being that they’re seeking “attention and
validation from the Facebook community”
Healthy eating habits and exercise regimes also indicates a person
who’s a narcissist since their likely goal is to receive compliments on
their appearance
According
to study author Dr. Tara Marshall, sometimes the narcissists’ behavior
works to their advantage. “Although our results suggest that
narcissists’ bragging pays off because they receive more likes and
comments to their status updates, it could be that their Facebook
friends politely offer support while secretly disliking such egotistical
displays,” she said in a formal statement.
However,
these findings from Brunel University are not the first that connect
Facebook postings with personality traits. A study released from University of Florida
found that one Facebook behavior was linked to levels of narcissism —
the rating someone gave their own profile shot. While this was true for
both men and women (the higher their self-rating of attractiveness, the
higher the chances of narcissism), they added that the frequency of
status postings in females can also predict narcissism.
Then there’s previous research from The University of Kansas
, which found that people who tend to be more agreeable post less
often, people who are more open-minded are less likely to respond to
other people’s updates yet will post more often about political issues
and those who are conscientious tend to agree more often with other’s
updates.
As for the people who rarely offer status updates yet log in for more hours than the typical Facebook user … according to a study conducted by University of Alabama Huntsville, these members fall into the shy category.
Jacqueline Hornor Plumez, PhD, a psychologist and author of The Bitch In Your Head,
tells Yahoo Health she is not surprised the terms “narcissism” and “low
self-esteem” have been linked together, as seen in numerous studies on
Facebook, including the latest one from London. “The interesting thing
is that people who have low self-esteem and people who narcissists are
really two sides of the same coin,” she explains. “While it appears to
be that narcissists think they’re superior, in fact, it’s a defense
against their feelings of inferiority. And they are both based on the
fact that both types of people are highly self-critical.”
And
while she stresses there’s nothing wrong with sharing the happenings in
your life — “My husband surprised me with roses!” “I’m so proud of my
daughter!” “Looking good in my new size 4 jeans!” — Plumez says making
these types of announcements on social media usually boils down to
someone’s need for attention.
“There’s
a huge difference in the way you feel when you sit down with a good
friend over a cup of coffee and share what’s going on with your life
versus sitting in your office or in your bedroom posting on Facebook and
hoping to get Likes, comments and praise,” she states. “The motivation
is the same, but it’s like eating junk food versus something
nutritious.”
And
same goes for the frequent postings that include selfies. “I think it’s
a longing for connection,” says Plumez. “I know many people today are
highly self-critical. And that self criticism is a nasty, circular
process: You criticize yourself, which makes you feel lonely and
unworthy of real relationships and love, and then you go and try to find
the praise—but it doesn’t really feel that wonderful.”
She
adds that while Facebook and other forms of social media can be “mildly
interesting” in terms of discovering what other people are up to, she
doesn’t advise using it to obtain a self-esteem boost. “One of the
famous psychologists named Alfred Adler said that mental health is a
combination of self-esteem and altruism,” she says. “If you just try to
get your self-esteem by somehow feeling superior, it isn’t going to feel
good. You have to have that connection of caring about other people.
And I think that Facebook, while it appears to be connecting everybody,
can be isolating.”

The
Honda rider was traveling at such a 'very high speed', his reaction
time was not sufficient enough to avoid this accident. Swedish
Police estimate a speed of ~250 KM/h (155 mph) before the bike hit
the slow moving car side-on at an intersection. At that speed, they
predicted that the rider's reaction time (once the vehicle came into
view) wasn't sufficient enough for him to even apply the brakes. The
car had two passengers and the bike rider was found INSIDE the car
with them. The Volkswagen actually flipped over from the force of
impact and landed 10 feet from where the collision took place.
All
three involved (two in car and rider) were killed instantly. This
graphic demonstration was placed at the Stockholm
Motorcycle Fair by the Swedish Police and Road Safety Department.
The sign above the display also noted that the rider had only
recently obtained his license.
At
250 KM (155 mph) the operator is travelling at 227 feet per second.
With normal reaction time to SEE-DECIDE-REACT of 1.6 seconds the
above operator would have travelled over 363 feet while making a
decision on what actions to take. In this incident the Swedish
police indicate that no actions were taken.
In other
words, they didn't even have time to say, 'Oh, S###!'

As Motorcycle season is fast upon up let's ALL be Pro-Active and help prevent anything like this form every occurring in our areas or anywhere else.
A South Carolina police officer is facing a murder charge after shooting an African-American man in the back at least eight times.
The Post and Courier reports that not only did Officer Michael Slager shoot Walter Scott in the back multiple times, as Scott was running away, but the entire incident was caught on video. This is a screengrab the paper released from the video, which is expected to come out later.
The flood of American liberals
sneaking across the border into Canada has intensified in the past week,
sparking calls for increased patrols to stop the illegal immigration.
The recent actions of the Tea Party and the fact Republicans won the Senate
are prompting an exodus among left-leaning citizens who fear they'll soon be
required to hunt, pray, and to agree with Bill O'Reilly and Glenn
Beck.
Canadian border farmers say it's
not uncommon to see dozens of sociology professors, animal-rights activists
and Unitarians crossing their fields at night. "I went out to milk the
cows the other day, and there was a Hollywood producer huddled in the barn,"
said Southern Manitoba farmer Red Greenfield, whose acreage borders North
Dakota . "The producer was cold, exhausted and hungry. He asked me
if I could spare a latte and some free-range chicken. When I said I didn't
have any, he left before I even got a chance to show him my screenplay,
eh?"
In an effort to stop the illegal
aliens, Greenfield erected higher fences, but the liberals scaled them.
He then installed loudspeakers that blared Rush Limbaugh across the fields.
"Not real effective," he said. "The liberals still got through and
Rush annoyed the cows so much that they wouldn't give any
milk."
Officials are particularly
concerned about smugglers who meet liberals near the Canadian border, pack
them into Volvo station wagons, and drive them across the border where they are
simply left to fend for themselves. "A lot of these people are not prepared
for our rugged conditions," an Ontario border patrolman said. "I found
one carload without a single bottle of imported drinking water. They
did have a nice little Napa Valley cabernet, though." When liberals are
caught, they're sent back across the border, often wailing loudly that they
fear retribution from conservatives. Rumors have been circulating about
plans being made to build re-education camps where liberals will be forced to
drink domestic beer and watch NASCAR races.
In recent days, liberals have
turned to ingenious ways of crossing the border. Some have been
disguised as senior citizens taking a bus trip to buy cheap Canadian
prescription drugs. After catching a half- dozen young vegans in powdered wig
disguises, Canadian immigration authorities began stopping buses and quizzing
the supposed senior-citizens about Perry Como and Rosemary Clooney to prove
that they were alive in the '50s. "If they can't identify the accordion player
on The Lawrence Welk Show, we become
very suspicious about their
age," an official said.
Canadian citizens have
complained that the illegal immigrants are creating an organic-broccoli
shortage and are renting all the Michael Moore movies.
"I really feel sorry for
American liberals, but the Canadian economy just can't support them," an
Ottawa resident said. "How many art-history majors does one country
need?"
In an effort to ease tensions
between the United States and Canada , Vice President Biden met with the
Canadian ambassador and pledged that the administration would take steps
to reassure liberals. A source close to President Obama said, "We're
going to have some Paul McCartney and Peter, Paul & Mary concerts.
And we might even put some endangered species on postage stamps. The
President is determined to reach out," he said.
The definition
of the word Conundrum is: something that is puzzling or confusing.
Here are six
Conundrums of socialism in the United States of America:
1. America is
capitalist and greedy - yet half of the population is subsidized.
2. Half of the
population is subsidized - yet they think they are victims.
3. They think
they are victims - yet their representatives run the government.
4. Their
representatives run the government - yet the poor keep getting poorer.
5. The poor keep
getting poorer - yet they have things that people in other countries only
dream about.
6. They have
things that people in other countries only dream about - yet they want
America to be more like those other countries.
Think about it!
And that, my friends, pretty much sums up the USA in the 21st Century.
Makes you wonder who is doing the math.
These three,
short sentences tell you a lot about the direction of our current government
and cultural environment:
1. We are
advised to NOT judge ALL Muslims by the actions of a few lunatics, but we
are encouraged to judge ALL gun owners by the actions of a few lunatics.
Funny how that works.
And here's
another one worth considering...
2. Seems we
constantly hear about how Social Security is going to run out of money. How
come we never hear about welfare or food stamps running out of money? What's
interesting is the first group "worked for" their money, but the second
didn't. Think about it.....
and Last but not
least,
3. Why are we
cutting benefits for our veterans, no pay raises for our military and
cutting our army to a level lower than before WWII, but we are not stopping
the payments or benefits to illegal aliens.
The owners of Hobby Lobby, a Christian-owned craft supply chain, were
so offended by the idea of having to include emergency contraceptives
and intrauterine devices in their health insurance plans that they sued
the Obama administration and took the case all the way up to the Supreme
Court. But Mother Jones reported on Tuesday
that the company's retirement plan has invested millions of dollars in
the manufacturers of emergency contraception and drugs used to induce
abortions.
Hobby Lobby's 401(k) employee retirement plan holds $73
million in mutual funds that invest in multiple pharmaceutical
companies that produce emergency contraceptive pills, intrauterine
devices, and abortion-inducing medications.
The companies Hobby
Lobby invests in include Teva Pharmaceutical Industries, which makes the
Plan B morning-after pill and ParaGard, a copper IUD, as well as
Pfizer, the maker of the abortion-inducing drugs Cytotec and Prostin E2.
Hobby Lobby's mutual funds also invest in two health insurance
companies that cover surgical abortions, abortion drugs, and emergency
contraception in their health care policies.
Hobby Lobby's
attorneys argue that the provision in the Affordable Care Act that
requires most employers to cover contraception in their health plans
infringes on the company's right to exercise religious freedom because
the company's owners believe that emergency contraception and IUDs are
actually forms of abortion. Medical studies have debunked this claim.
2700 PAGES OF OBAMACARE CONDENSED TO ONE (1) SENTENCE.......AND SO VERY TRUE!!!!!! Here are the 2,700 pages of the Affordable Care Act condensed into one sentence. ObamaCare:
To insure the uninsured, we first make the insured uninsured, and then
make them pay more to be insured again, so the original uninsured can be
insured for free.
According to this brand new video from Kevin Allan, martial law in
America will begin on or about the 1st of October, 2013, merely days
away. The facts shared in this video are plentiful, many provided by
FreePatriot.Org in this linked story. Are we only days away from our
worst nightmares?
What if our worse fears are confirmed? We’ve been watching as the
criminal forces within the U.S. government slowly work their way into a
more entrenched position in the machinery of power. What if the reason
we have so many of our troops overseas, including our national
guardsmen, is to remove them from the scene of an American coup?
Could that be the real ultimate motive behind the foreign wars? There
is a lot of information contained in this video and the accompanying
text from thesleuthjournal.com. Added together, there is more than a
little cause for concern. We should all pray that it is just a
conspiracy theorist’s nightmare. If there is more to it, it will be a
real life nightmare for the whole world.
At last night’s town council meeting, a lot of critical information was released. All of it was hysterical to say the least.
Lisbon Council Vice-Chairman Lisa Ward
Town Attorney Roger Therriault
The first revealing information comes to us from Councilor Ward. She informed everyone that the Town Attorney, Roger Therriault, our own legal beagle, stated that since Chairman LaRochelle receives no direct financial benefit from the purchase and demolition of the Worumbo Mill there is no conflict of interest.
Lisbon Council Chairman Fern LaRochelle
By the way, Chairman LaRochelle voted on the agenda items dealing with the Worumbo Mill instead of recusing himself as he had done during the two Public Hearings. The mere fact he purchased the abutted property for a little more than half the asking price is no financial gain. Apparently, Mr. Therriault does not understand if the property value goes up around your property so does your property and if the property value around your property goes down so does the value of your property. Do you call this a financial gain or not?
Councilor Ward stated that the reason she voted to put the million dollar bond on the November ballot was because she did not hear an overwhelming support one way or the other at the Public Hearing. She went on to say that those who were against the project were heard loud and clear. Councilor Ward was not convinced that this represented the majority of the people. This is not word for word because I do not take shorthand but it is as close as I can remember.
Please watch the video tape when it becomes available.
Councilor Pesce
Councilor Lunt
Councilors Garrison and Bickford
I suggested that she call for a show of hands to determine how many people in the audience was for, against or undecided but she failed to do this. By the vote, I would say the only two councilors who were paying attention at the two Public Hearings were Councilors Pesce, and Lunt because they voted against putting it on the ballot. But as far as the council recommending this bond, Councilors Pesce, Garrison and Lunt voted against the bond.
One of the questions asked during the Public Hearing was if the bond included the 5 lots owned by Miller Industries. The answer was they were not sure if these lots, which contain Mercury, were going to be part of the final deal or not. The council does not know if they can exclude them during the deal. There are so many issues still undecided and yet they want US to TRUST them to make all the right decisions.
This is ludicrous to play with a million dollars of taxpayers’ money without knowing all the fact first. It appears that Chairman LaRochelle received his great deal in return for dumping the mill properties on the town to clear up. Remember that after the mill fire, the insurance company paid Miller Industries a very large settlement. Did they reinvest any of this money in Lisbon?
Three years ago they offered to demolish the mill and Dale Crafts and Gina Mason pushed to leave it up. Now they want the taxpayers of Lisbon to pick up the tab for eye soar to our community. There are too many unknowns for the taxpayers to gamble on this project.
Planning Board Chairman Don Fellows
Mr. Don Fellows spoke on behalf of the Planning Board and the Route 196 Master Plan. He is in favor of the mill coming down because it is an eye soar to the community. I agree with Mr. Fellows that it needs to come down but not at the expense of the taxpayers.
Mrs. Miller and Miller Industries should be responsible for bringing down the mill or restore it but that choice is complete up to them. By the way, Mrs. Miller and Miller Industries allowed the Real Estate Listing to expire.Does that mean the property is already under contract or is there a deal pending?
The final bit of information came from Chairman LaRochelle who wants everyone to believe the council can be TRUSTED to make the right decisions for the people. He wants to compare the Campus Commons to the Worumbo Mill project. So let’s take a look at the two. Campus Commons was done behind closed doors; the town sold the property for $1.00 with over a million dollars of Federal Grant monies attached. 4 Campus Avenue was valued at $265,050. Now Chairman LaRochelle believes that the Worumbo Mill falls into the same category.
First, we are not selling town property but purchasing property from a private business. Next, the Millers offered three years ago to demolish the mill, behind closed doors, and the council asked them NOT to do this. Why wasn’t this brought to the people then? Now, the council is bringing this to the people because the council cannot swing a deal behind closed doors as they have in the past. Next, there are contamination issues with the Worumbo Mill property that is well documented. Common Campus had no issues in this area. Finally, does the town of Lisbon really want to set a precedent by getting into the Real Estate business? Comparing these two projects is like comparing apples to oranges. If nothing else demonstrating your incompetence is entertaining. Larry Fillmore
