Dear Editor,
First, I would like to say "Thank You" to the Lisbon resident that took the great photos of the Lisbon Village area.
Second, at the July 15th Lisbon Town Council meeting, I asked the Council to dispell a rumor that the town was no longer going to fund the MTM Center. I was told that there were no plans to do away with it. After the meeting and before Council members went into Executive Session, I spoke with Councilor Charlie Smith. I suggested that funds from the sale of the former Teen Center be used for improvements to the MTM Center. Mr. Smith said that there are many problems with the building. Among them are the roof leaking in many places and old drafty windows that need to be replaced.
This afternoon I called someone who probably knows more about the MTM Center building than anyone else in town. This person has been on the roof. He said the roof is in good condition and does not need to be replaced. He said it leaks around vents that go through the roof. This is a common problem with roofs. This person said the areas around all the vents need to be resealed. He even offered to do the work. He said he would take Charlie, and I'm sure any Councilor or anyone that would be willing, up on the roof and show them where the repairs are needed, and show them where in the building the leaks are. A simple and inexpensive solution that would extend the life of the building. Maybe too inexpensive and too simple for Town of Lisbon officials? Or do they even want to extend the life of the building? This reminds me of an old Indian saying, "White man talk out of both sides of mouth." Are our town officials "talking out of both sides of their mouths?"
Sincerely Yours,
Dorothy B. Fitzgerald
