St. Matt’s Intersection Book Club begins Gilead on Jan. 22
Mid Coast Mainers are invited to discuss the Pulitzer prize-winning book Gilead by Marilynn Robinson at St. Matthew’s Intersection Book Club at 7:00 pm beginning Thursday, January 22.
Gilead is the story of the Rev. John Ames, the son of an Iowa preacher and the grandson of a minister who, as a young man in Maine, saw a vision of Christ bound in chains and headed West to fight for abolition. Robinson’s novel is about fathers and sons, loneliness and love, and faith and family.
The Intersection Book Club meets every Thursday night from 7-8 pm at the church on the hill off Route 196 in Lisbon. Newcomers are always welcome—drop by one week or every week!
St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church, founded in 1906, is a vibrant growing congregation that brings together the four main threads of Anglican tradition: Anglo Catholic worship, evangelical preaching, charismatic expression and caring in action.
Information on ordering books is available at the parish office (353-8453, stmatthews@gwi.net or www.stmatthewslisbon.org ).
