What Is Rotten and Where?

Something Rotten in Denmark or Lisbon?

Something is really fishy!!!! In the Falls there was a flower shop that rumor has it was a recipient of ECONOMIC DEPT $$$ and it went under ... now a another restaurant that took the flower shop's space appears to be a sinking ship  Notice if the store as been closing many for various reasons. Rumors has it they got money like restaurants of past-- FIREHOUSE CAFE, FARWELL PASTRY SHOP(in the mill}, the pizza shop in the Ronny Antill store  ETC.   The question begs---WHO IS OVERSEEING ALL THIS $$$$ and the FAILURES!!
                                                                                                                                                             DEEP THROAT

Obviously Scott Benson isn't doing his job,he seems to be concerned about getting more computers and job assistance at the Lisbon Library. This might be okay if this was a rich town, but look around and see all the businesses that have closed or gone bankrupt. All this failure raises the tax rate as homeowners must absorb the difference. The Town lawyer, Therriault, should be following all the Economic Dept. loan failures and filing legal documents in court. He has generally been incompetent in this area. A different and engaged lawyer would probably be a better choice for the Town.

None of this is new- the town has a long history, through all the economic development people even BEFORE Dan Feeney- of giving money to questionable people.

There is so much money going through the ECD and Scott Benson. Scott Benson had no idea that TIFs required a contract and when I asked for the contracts the town only had 3 of the 5 on file. When it comes to the Revolving Loan Funds, apparently the town issues the loans and then forgets about them. There is no monitoring payments or businesses going under. By the time anyone realizes the businesses has folded all the collateral has disappeared. Gross mismanagement!!!

you people are obviously whack jobs since you only publish the nastiest hateful comments by others like yourselves

Dear Whack Job, this concerns vast amounts of money that are not monitored properly. Remember Feeney's "fake" business and stolen money that has never been prosecuted? This is a very long-standing problem with the Town and the Town Manager and ED Director are not doing their jobs. Period.
It's people like you that allow this incompetency to continue.

Dear Whack Job Author

I think “ Thou doth protest too much”

The accusatory nature of your comment leads me to believe you may be one of the corrupt incompetent bureaucrats that the local authors are trying to expose.

Alas I understand a little bird will shortly be singing. Remember there is no honor among thieves.

I sure hope the Lisbon Reporter gets what they are due. I hope you investigate all the facts before you print stuff because I would not want to be in your shoes when you get sued for slander. I for one know for fact that some of the businesses you have named in your article for receiving monies from the Economics Department have never received a dime. If it seems like they are businesses that are struggling it is for the reason of good old hard times. The economy would make any small business struggle a little. But, then again, who needs the economy to cause a struggle when they have the Lisbon Reporter. You all should send apologies to the small businesses you are hurting. The crap you are writing and spreading affects their livelihoods right down to the bread and butter they put on their tables. If there is any shame to be felt or had, it is on the end of the Lisbon Reporter

It's a good thing you all write rumor has it because that's all it is is rumor. Reporters are supposed to have the facts before they ruin peoples lives by falsely writing things that will affect a businesses reputation. Someone better go back to school and study some of the laws that you all are breaking by being so slanderous to so many small businesses.

I don't know if you're trying to be political or down on a small business that is trying to survive in an even smaller town? If your hate towards Scott Benson is what you have then why don't you leave the small business' out of it so they have a chance in suriviving. It's slander and rumors like this that help bring down a business. Anyone who publishes something containing "appears to be.." and "Rumor has it.." obviously hasn't done all of the research and doesn't have 100% confidence in what they are writing. Perhaps you should think about this before you write false accusations about a business. Do you WANT another small business to fail because of YOUR incompetence?

This is appalling.. the only thing Rotting is this "reporters" reputation. Number one, I think an editor would be a great start. Or maybe a simple proof read. And maybe proper research would be an even better start. I honestly doubt anyone is going to believe this load of crap. A rumor is just that, a rumor. I think it would have been great to interview this small business to get their side of the story before you post on your "blog"about what you think is going on. Anyone who reads into this garbage, our reads it at all should think twice before believing this. I see better posts on Facebook. -KAT

Why all the anonymous posts? If you care to make a worth while comment on this BLOG (this is NOT A NEW PAPER) then have the courtesy to stand behind your post.

As for "Sumthin Fishy" here was the reponse on Face book by the owner Jason Caron ...
(edited for brevity)

We are not closing and never have we gotten any grant money from the town for anything. ... It is disturbing and upsetting to have to read something so profoundly untrue about my business as well as other small businesses in a paper. The Lisbon Reporter writing negative things about small businesses in this town is what closes most of these small businesses. It is definitely not good for any of these businesses. And...Just to let the Lisbon Reporter as well as everyone else know...we are now open 7 days a week for breakfast starting at 530a.m. and have expanded our lunch and supper hours as well as expanded our menu. So Lisbon Reporter, does this sound like we plan on closing?
