Kirk Lippold, the former Commander of the warship USS Cole, provides his perspective on the Obama regime’s program of releasing prisoners as the method through which he will close the Gitmo detention facility over the objections of Congress.
He describes how Gitmo was originally designed to be an intelligence center for excellence in the war on terror. He said it was a place where we could learn from detainees the specifics of our enemy’s operations in order to better target them.
He says the problem we now face is the lack of a facility to which we can bring them, that we simply can’t afford to surge ships out of Norfolk to go sit off the coast of Libya to collect one prisoner at a time back to the U.S. for trial.
