At last night’s Town Council
Workshop, the Council discussed three topics.
Below is a small summary of each:
1.
Dispatch
Consolidation Discussion – Town Manager, Diane Barnes started off by
telling the Council of the savings this project would save the town. The saving was between $140,000.00 and
$150,000.00. This was a different figure
from what the Town Council quoted of $190,000.00 by Chairman Pesce. Next, Sheriff Samson explained that the grant
the county had applied for was disapproved because of technical problems. Sheriff Samson also explained that he had
applied to the County Commissioners for approximately $230,000.00 is placed in
their budget for approval. The Town
Manager explained that the Lisbon Dispatch is costing annually $337,000.00 of
taxpayers’ dollars. Chief Brooks spoke
asking questions of Sheriff Samson, who is not a Subject Matter Expert (SME),
in the field of Communications. Sheriff
Samson did his best to resolve all of Chief Brooks’ questions.
2.
Police
Officer Vacancy Discussion - Next the Town Manager asked to start the
process to fill a Patrol Officer position.
The Town Council authorized the Town Manager and Chief Brooks to start
the process.
3.
Shooting Range Ordinance – There were approximately 15 to 20 citizens to talk
about incidents at the Shooting Range and how to control noise and
mishaps. The town currently does not
have an Ordinance to cover the range so the Council agreed to form a committee
to draft up an ordinance to cover the Shooting Range.
The discussions lasted
approximately one and half hours.
