What Insecure People Post on Facebook, Plus More Secret Meanings in Your Status

Scientists have some very specific ideas about what you’re really saying in your Facebook updates. (Photo: Getty Images)
There’s the old saying that you can’t believe everything you read, yet many experts in the psychology field are saying that Facebook postings can offer insight into someone’s personality. The most recent study comes from Brunel University in London, which found that numerous Facebookers are either dealing with low self-esteem or have traits of narcissism.
Wow.
Researchers provided 555 Facebook members with an online survey that measured the “Big Five” personality traits, which included extroversion, neuroticism, openness, agreeableness and conscientiousness. Self-esteem and narcissism were also analyzed. After gathering the data, the psychologists concluded that frequent updates about:
  • One’s romantic partner most likely indicates a person who has low self-esteem
  • Personal and professional achievements most likely indicates a person who is a narcissist being that they’re seeking “attention and validation from the Facebook community”
  • Healthy eating habits and exercise regimes also indicates a person who’s a narcissist since their likely goal is to receive compliments on their appearance

According to study author Dr. Tara Marshall, sometimes the narcissists’ behavior works to their advantage. “Although our results suggest that narcissists’ bragging pays off because they receive more likes and comments to their status updates, it could be that their Facebook friends politely offer support while secretly disliking such egotistical displays,” she said in a formal statement.
However, these findings from Brunel University are not the first that connect Facebook postings with personality traits. A study released from University of Florida found that one Facebook behavior was linked to levels of narcissism — the rating someone gave their own profile shot. While this was true for both men and women (the higher their self-rating of attractiveness, the higher the chances of narcissism), they added that the frequency of status postings in females can also predict narcissism.
Then there’s previous research from The University of Kansas , which found that people who tend to be more agreeable post less often, people who are more open-minded are less likely to respond to other people’s updates yet will post more often about political issues and those who are conscientious tend to agree more often with other’s updates.
As for the people who rarely offer status updates yet log in for more hours than the typical Facebook user … according to a study conducted by University of Alabama Huntsville, these members fall into the shy category.
When it comes to overall Facebook use, other research has shown that excessive time online can damage relationships, make you less happy and even be difficult for those suffering from self-esteem issues.
Jacqueline Hornor Plumez, PhD, a psychologist and author of The Bitch In Your Head, tells Yahoo Health she is not surprised the terms “narcissism” and “low self-esteem” have been linked together, as seen in numerous studies on Facebook, including the latest one from London. “The interesting thing is that people who have low self-esteem and people who narcissists are really two sides of the same coin,” she explains. “While it appears to be that narcissists think they’re superior, in fact, it’s a defense against their feelings of inferiority. And they are both based on the fact that both types of people are highly self-critical.”
And while she stresses there’s nothing wrong with sharing the happenings in your life — “My husband surprised me with roses!” “I’m so proud of my daughter!” “Looking good in my new size 4 jeans!” — Plumez says making these types of announcements on social media usually boils down to someone’s need for attention.
“There’s a huge difference in the way you feel when you sit down with a good friend over a cup of coffee and share what’s going on with your life versus sitting in your office or in your bedroom posting on Facebook and hoping to get Likes, comments and praise,” she states. “The motivation is the same, but it’s like eating junk food versus something nutritious.”
And same goes for the frequent postings that include selfies. “I think it’s a longing for connection,” says Plumez. “I know many people today are highly self-critical. And that self criticism is a nasty, circular process: You criticize yourself, which makes you feel lonely and unworthy of real relationships and love, and then you go and try to find the praise—but it doesn’t really feel that wonderful.”
She adds that while Facebook and other forms of social media can be “mildly interesting” in terms of discovering what other people are up to, she doesn’t advise using it to obtain a self-esteem boost. “One of the famous psychologists named Alfred Adler said that mental health is a combination of self-esteem and altruism,” she says. “If you just try to get your self-esteem by somehow feeling superior, it isn’t going to feel good. You have to have that connection of caring about other people. And I think that Facebook, while it appears to be connecting everybody, can be isolating.”

Former United States Navy Veteran, Certified National Recruiter, and Commander of the Elm Grove Memorial Veterans of Foreign Wars Vernon Anderson told Breitbart News exclusively that the Department of Veteran’s Affairs’ Gun Lock push is “another Obama back door gun control measure.”

According to an earlier NPR report noting veteran suicide statistics, “The VA is trying to help with a program that offers gun locks to veterans for free. The thinking is that if they lock their guns up they might not reach for them in the spur of the moment.”

NEWS ALERT: Russia Launches Own JADE HELM as China Pushes Pentagon

MOSCOW | One story after another - the global war build-up continues. If you are not paying attention then you’ll be forced to once our suicidal leaders cross the threshold and plunge us into the abyss of war.

Just now the Moscow times is reporting that a Russia is deploying their own JADE HELM level exercises - Immediately after NATO wrapped their own version.

12,000 Russian soldiers and 250 aircraft are taking part in the Air defense exercises in the Ural Mountains and western Siberia.

http://youtu.be/zy95IwdFWDM

But that is only the beginning - in September an even larger Russian Military drill is scheduled to take place called “Tsentr-2015.”

International tensions have NEVER been higher with Russia - and now China is challenging the Pentagon.

Just days ago the Chinese Navy demanded a US Surveillance plane evacuate Chinese claimed Airspace over their new weaponized artificial Island group in the South China Sea.

Regarding the confrontation Former CIA Deputy Director Michael Morell told CNN's Erin Burnett that it indicates there is "absolutely" a risk of the U.S. and China going to war sometime in the future.

The Pentagon doesn't recognize the artificial islands and is considering flying missions and sailing US Warships even closer to the new Chinese bases.

Now NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg has arrived in Washington D.C. to begin a week-long summit that will no doubt include talk of the rising tensions in Europe and China.

The writing is on the wall - How do you think this is going to play out? Let me know in the comments below.

GOPDD: ALERT! IRS Says Online Thieves Stole Info From More Than 100,000 Taxpayers

 by AmyElizabeth

WASHINGTON (AP) — Thieves used an online service provided by the IRS to gain access to information from more than 100,000 taxpayers, the agency said Tuesday.
The information included tax returns and other tax information on file with the IRS.
The IRS said the thieves accessed a system called “Get Transcript.” In order to access the information, the thieves cleared a security screen that required knowledge about the taxpayer, including Social Security number, date of birth, tax filing status and street address.
“The IRS notes this issue does not involve its main computer system that handles tax filing submission; that system remains secure,” the agency said in a statement.

The IRS said thieves targeted the system from February to mid-May. The service has been temporarily shut down.
“In all, about 200,000 attempts were made from questionable email domains, with more than 100,000 of those attempts successfully clearing authentication hurdles,” the agency said. “During this filing season, taxpayers successfully and safely downloaded a total of approximately 23 million transcripts.”
Tax returns can include a host of personal information that can help someone steal an identity, including Social Security numbers and birthdates of dependents and spouses. However, the IRS said the thieves appeared to already have a lot of personal information about the victims.
The IRS said it is notifying taxpayers whose information was accessed.

A Young Elephant Is Coaxed Back Up Onto His Feet By Its Herd On A Busy Roadway

Two elephants coax a baby to its feet and off busy road. Video screen grab

In a touching display of caring and togetherness, a herd of elephants recently coaxed a baby elephant that had fallen in a busy roadway back to its feet and safely into the wilderness.
The dramatic scene played out recently in Kruger National Park in South Africa, with motorists watching from both directions in the road.

The footage, posted Tuesday to the Kruger Sightings YouTube channel, shows the calf put its head to the pavement, rest on its side, then lie flat against the pavement, drawing several herd members to its side.
Ultimately, though, it was the persistent efforts of a young adult and an older calf that prompted the little one to stand and walk off on its own.
“Absolutely fantastic how the herd protects and help this calf up to join them again,” reads a comment from the park. “Luckily the cars kept their distance.”
It remains unclear why the baby elephant chose to lie down. One of the commenters suggested it was merely tired, and pointed out that it did not “collapse,” as mentioned in the video description.
Another commenter agreed, stating that it looked like the type of tantrum that human babies often throw.
Whatever the case, it looked to be ok as it walked off, and the episode is just another example of how these intelligent pachyderms, which are known for the deep bonds they share with others, will stand up for one another.
In this case they seem to know what all humans are taught: It’s not safe to linger on a road full of cars.

Confirmed Secret Pentagon Report Reveals US "Created" ISIS As A "Tool" in a Proxy War Against Assad

Editor's note: The above video was done over a year and half ago. Look at us now!

TruthInMedia.com questioned last year why are allies were financing ISIS in Iraq and arming so called "moderate rebels" in Syria.
Reports have confirmed that US Intelligence knew in 2012 that backing Syrian rebels would result in an ISIS victory.
A newly declassified DIA document from 2012 confirms that arming the anti-Assad rebel forces and Islamist groups would lead to the emergence of ISIS.

College Suspends Wounded Marine, Labels Him a Threat Because He Dared to Ask for a Non-Muslim Counselor

By -

A veteran Marine was kicked out of a Mississippi college because he had the audacity to ask for a non-Muslim counselor. Not only did the school suspend him, they also labeled him as a “threat” to himself and other students.
This is the disrespect that our schools have for our veterans.

Triple Amputee Brian Kolfage: Memorial Day has Become a Disgraced National Holiday

By -

MEMORIAL DAY- I’m extremely disgusted with what Americans have turned Memorial Day into.
It’s now just another ‘holiday’ to profit and sell things. It is a day where we should honor the dead who died defending our freedom, instead we have turned it into a full-blown shopping bonanza that mimics Black Friday.
Is this really how our veterans would have wanted it? TV commercials blasting sales of their products, vaguely and usually never mentioning anything to do with our veterans who died, all to push products and profits up? Are we this greedy?
