Lisbon – Twenty members of Lisbon High School’s Community Service Club were officially sworn in as charter members of the newly formed, re-organized LHS Interact Club. The students were presented with the LHS Interact Club Charter by Lewiston-Auburn Rotary Vocational Service Chair, William Denehy. “Rotary’s commitment to service and youths would not be complete if we did not also nurture healthy social values such as civic-consciousness, caring for others, and concern for the environment at an early age which is possible through the formation of Interact Clubs,” shares Denehy. “Interact is a Rotary-sponsored service club for young people ages 12 to 18. The program gives teens an opportunity to participate in meaningful service projects while developing leadership skills.” Students accompanied by LHS Principal, Kenneth Healey, and Community Service Club Advisor, Monica Millhime, attended the induction ceremony on Wednesday, May 11 held at the Ramada Inn in Lewiston as invited guests of the Lewiston-Auburn Rotary Club.
“LHS students were previously affiliated with the local Lisbon Rotary for many years as a co-curricular club. As a former Rotarian, in June of 2008 the Lisbon Rotary fellowship group reluctantly relinquished their Charter to Rotary International due to economic conditions and a decline in membership,” commented Healey. “Without sponsorship of a local club for our high school students we created the Community Service Club. Today, thanks to a new partnership with the LA Rotary Club, Lisbon students will once again have the opportunity to be members of an Interact Club.” Interact is Rotary International’s service club for young people ages 12-18. Interact clubs are sponsored by individual Rotary clubs which provide support and guidance to students.
