Seriously, Spend 500K on a track but we can't build a new public works building? I hope that track is good at plowing roads and fixing pot holes. Can't imagine the number of roads that could have been paved in lieu of this foolish idea. Don't get me wrong I support our children but this does not help the community as much as some think.
Superintendent Green and the School Committee did a good job of selling their two projects.
To me it shows that the public has trust in Mr. Green and the School Committee.
Need I say more?
Opinions are like noses, everyone has one.
Maybe public works should be working on fixing potholes and other things around town instead of wasting public tax money and time making, and installing signs trying to influence the vote on town time. Or spent more time planning and giving specifics behind the need for such a large building when they can't even take care of the one they had. Oh. And how does a building plow roads and pave anyway? Maybe the town should look at there own finances as the school does and make some cuts elsewhere that is unneeded. (CALL CENTER)
Agreed Dot.
Lisbon has more empty/vacant homes than any town I have ever been in. Tax rates need to first be lowered for new growth and investment into current structures. It is already one of the lowest priced area's for homes. Why are the homes vacant? Lisbon is a prime location between Lewiston and Brunswick, half hour to Portland, half hour to Augusta. Putting a burden on the current tax payers (actual home owners not renters) is ridiculous. Take a drive in your neighborhood and count the empty houses. New anything is not going to fill those houses. Low tax rate will!
One thing occurs as I get older living in this town for more than 50 years now, we pay more for less.
We don't even have curbside garbage service like other area towns offer their taxpayers. But we do have an overly funded, overly staffed and overly functional (duplication of services by having Brooks's personal center). Oh, I have seen him in action long enough to know that he is only fixated on his so called legacy.
Years ago we argued at town meeting but still managed to get things done much better than our current form of administration. Holy crap, how much has StevEvildrege's tenure cost the town that haven't been fully impacted yet?
What I am saying is how much more has been covered up as status quo for Lisbon?
Yes I also plan on being at the new gym this winter to stay warm fi it ever gets done in time. Still now in june my wife and myself continue to make payments for heating oil last winter.
We both certainly hope that the new town manager is just that a manager and not a player. If I recall the public works bought a new sweeper a few years back, what if that were to go inside the town office and give a good sweep start with the the town clerk and move room to room and come out the back door of police station. Just thing of it.
Wonder how many times they would have to dump the trash collected.
My wife and myself moved to Lisbon in in 1949, bought a house somethine that we viewed as a long term investment and would be able to sell when we needed to and now we need to because of our ages and health. We both worked hard, raised 3 wonderful successful kids that left town and never have looked back. It is very sad to see the town in the condition that it is in now.
And for Mr. Fillmore and his digging out the facts for us to read on the Lisbon Reporter is remarkable at the least. I don't always agree with what is put on the reporter but it is a source for local and worldly news that isn't presented locally or so quickly. Thank you Mr. Fillmore.
Their was agroup in the beginning and seemed to do a lot of things with local coverages. Are they still around an looking for more people? I remember signing petitions at the Transfer site. I asked questions they were answered and left thinking that things were going to get better in town. But look at us now. We can help ourselves if we stay together.
Rufus was a very close friend of ours and we both miss him dearly. He submitted a lot of informtion to keep us informed. He loved doing it and said that the reporter is there for all of us to send items in of interest to help promote our area dnd that he wished more people would do it.
The comment section is a great idea and I have done many times.
what a terrific way to keep people informed. I love my coffee and the reporter in the morning. Wish you great future Mr. Fillmore and thank you for all your time and efforts.
Now to sell my house in and overly taxed burden run down town wshith no unity or idea about tomorrows resposibilities, we need to leave because we cannot afford to stay.
As important as the vote was it is
shameful of the lack of conern or's numbers who care. Guess it must be a new generation gap. My time is limited and my wife's health is not good neither I felt compelled to write this to get people to understand where my earlier days were like and my few friend left are saddened to see this town looking so poorly. Can't wait for the Change we have heard to much about and Hopeing I live long enough to see it.
Thank you Mr. Fillmore for the Lisbon Report. See
you at breakfast someday again.
Signed, a Veteran and Lisbon Citizen
