CAFR1: The word that hovers over the market place with a foreboding tone‏

CAFR1 NATIONAL POST

CAFR1 MARKET RANTS 11/05/14

That foreboding word is deflation.

Copied below is the CAFR1 Market Rants of 10/03/14  which notes the deflation aspect of what appears to be the force overhanging the markets.

The dollar index projections noted are generally in line and stand. The silver notes were off per the extent of the push to the downside.

On silver it appears the DEC SILVER contract may breach tonight the lows set previously last night and I am looking at two prices to be a buyer. The first buy price is more of a day-trade at $14.960 looking to cover at $15.22 and stand back to see the forces at play. So far the forces at play have been persistent exerting downward pressure basically in line with inverse moves to the dollar index. If that holds true, I am looking at bottom picking tonight or early in the morning. I would imagine there are many players that bought much higher who are under pressure to liquidate their futures positions in silver and gold.

With that in mind, and the nature of the commercials / fund managers to squeeze blood from a rock, what is called a blow-off may be in line for the setting of the lows and possibly the bottom price for the year.

That second trade I am looking to do, and will be standing back to see if it happens is a slide down to between $14.73 to $14.615 and if that happens I will be taking a long term position with an initial upside target of $20.000 come December and then $24.500 come February 2015. After, and if that happens I will re-evaluate at that time.

CAFR1 NATIONAL POST

MARKET RANTS - CAFR1
10/03/14

I have not put out a Market Rants Post for over a year.

Today though I see a reason to do so.

US Dollar Index - WEEKLY CHART 5-YEARS  and  MONTHLY CHART 25-YEARS

SILVERWEEKLY CHART 5-YEARS  and MONTHLY CHART 25-YEARS

As of this writing the US Dollar index is at 86.825 and Silver at 16.815

First and foremost, the Dollar index over the last several years appeared to be held by the Feds at the 82.50 mark. If it went below, intervention brought it back. If it went above, Fed intervention backed off and it returned to that level.

Well, in the last few weeks the Dollar index has been picking up steam as can be seen by the current price. Precious metals in the US are priced in Dollars so as the dollar goes up, the price of metals is pressured to go down. You could have metals in another country stay the same but in the US go down being priced in Dollars which are going up.

So, the big question is "What is going to happen and what is going on?"

When the Dollar is low, business activity is strong regarding international trade. US goods are cheaper to foreigners with a cheaper Dollar. The opposite is true with a stronger higher priced Dollar. So what are the Feds doing here? Allowing the Dollar to push higher and higher creates a word to many businesses that causes a cringe, that word is Deflation. So why are the Feds pushing at this time for Deflation? Business cycles are looked at in long term parameters. It is a chess game of motive and motivation. If the International community looks at the Dollar as heading to new high territory, and the trend is for it to continue to do so, they will not back off from buying US goods that they need. In fact they will increase their orders and then back off. This has a positive effect on the economy (if foriegn purchases back off, here the opposite is true).  Additionally, the higher Dollar has the effect of bringing down prices in the US, Crude Oil, agricultural, precious metals, price of foriegn imports, etc.. or in other words: Deflation.

Government's intent here?  Well, they want to maintain the value of their multitrillion Dollar holdings and see a good rate of return on their investments.

Looked at on a global perspective per investments in the US, real estate values increase (even though they may go down slightly); stock market is attractive motivated to maintain its value priced in Dollars, inflation is stymied with a higher Dollar. Overall another word comes into play, "stability". Here is what I think the Feds are going for. If deflation accomplishes that purpose, then motive and intent is answered.

The 10-year high level in the Dollar index was at the 91.0 to 92.5 range. I don't think it will pass that mark in the next four years. Reaching 88.0 to 90.0 in the short run, that appears to be a strong probability. Again, this is a chess game. Next 30-day top? I would put it at 88.50 to 88.80 and the backing off to 86.00 to 85.00

What effect will this have on Silver? Well, when Silver was in the $30 range and I was asked higher or lower, I would say higher BUT, if the commercial boys wanted to push it lower the target mark I would look for to be an aggressive buyer was $16.85 per oz. (most that I told that to at the time probably thought to themselves what is he smoking, it will never get down there). I have learned to pick points after asking myself: Where would they push it to if the commercials and money manager boys wanted to screw everybody? The $16.85 mark was hit a few days ago and breached today with a $16.64 low set early in the morning. In the time it took to write this article, as of 8:45 AM AZ TIME it is at $16.90

Per Silver, I stand with the $16.85 mark being a good price for buyers who have bought looking to hold and "if" $15.55 was hit with the commercials and fund mangers putting the squeeze on, that price I refer to as the "Mortgage  the farm price" as a buy.

Interesting Changes...

By today's standards none of us were supposed to ever make it.
HIGH SCHOOL -- 1957 vs. 2014
Scenario 1:
Jack goes duck hunting before school and then pulls into the school parking lot with his shotgun in his truck's gun rack.
1957 - Vice Principal comes over, looks at Jack's shotgun, goes to his car and gets his shotgun to show Jack.
2014 - School goes into lock down, FBI called, Jack hauled off to jail and never sees his truck or gun again. Counselors called in for traumatized students and teachers.

Scenario 2:
Johnny and Mark get into a fist fight after school.
1957 - Crowd gathers. Mark wins. Johnny and Mark shake hands and end up buddies.
2014 - Police called and SWAT team arrives -- they arrest both Johnny and Mark. They are both charged with assault and both expelled - even though Johnny started it.

Scenario 3:
Jeffrey will not be still in class, he disrupts other students.
1957 - Jeffrey sent to the Principal's office and given a good paddling by the Principal. He then returns to class, sits still and does not disrupt class again.
2014 - Jeffrey is given huge doses of Ritalin. He becomes a zombie. He is then tested for ADD. The family gets extra money (SSI) from the government because Jeffrey has a disability.

Scenario 4:
Billy breaks a window in his neighbor's car and his Dad gives him a whipping with his belt.
1957 - Billy is more careful next time, grows up normal, goes to college and becomes a successful businessman.
2014 - Billy's dad is arrested for child abuse, Billy is removed to foster care and joins a gang. The state psychologist is told by Billy's sister that she remembers being spanked herself, and their dad goes to prison. Billy's mom has an affair with the psychologist.

Scenario 5:
Mark gets a headache and takes some aspirin to school.
1957 - Mark shares his aspirin with the Principal out on the smoking dock.
2014 - The police are called and Mark is expelled from school for drug violations. His car is then searched for drugs and weapons.

Scenario 6:
Pedro fails high school English.
1957 - Pedro goes to summer school, passes English and goes to college.
2014 - Pedro's cause is taken up by state. Newspaper articles appear nationally explaining that teaching English as a requirement for graduation is racist. ACLU files class action lawsuit against the state school system and Pedro's English teacher. English is then banned from core curriculum. Pedro is given his diploma anyway but ends up mowing lawns for a living because he cannot speak English.

Scenario 7:
Johnny takes apart leftover firecrackers from the Fourth of July, puts them in a model airplane paint bottle and blows up a red ant bed.
1957 - Ants die.
2014 - ATF, Homeland Security and the FBI are all called. Johnny is charged with domestic terrorism. The FBI investigates his parents - and all siblings are removed from their home and all computers are confiscated. Johnny's dad is placed on a terror watch list and is never allowed to fly again.

Scenario 8:
Johnny falls while running during recess and scrapes his knee. He is found crying by his teacher, Mary. Mary hugs him to comfort him.
1957  In a short time, Johnny feels better and goes on playing.
2014- Mary is accused of being a sexual predator and loses her job. She faces 3 years in State Prison. Johnny undergoes 5 years of therapy.

BrasscheckTV: Remembering Gary Webb‏ "The country owes him a huge debt"

Respect for the late, great journalist

Gary Webb, the journalist made famous for exposing the CIA's Contra cocaine connection, reputedly took his own life on December 10, 2004 - by shooting himself in the head, twice.

Discounted and blacklisted by the mainstream press, Webb was unable to find another job as a journalist.

Although he was clearly ruined as revenge for his work, it looks like he will get the final word.

A film based on his series "Dark Alliance" was just released, starring Oscar winner Jeremy Renner. The film is called "Kill the Messenger".

PLEASE, Your Civic Duty, Get Out And Vote!!!!

PLEASE MAKE TIME TO VOTE!!!!

This coming Tuesday, November 4th, is voting day.  Many many Americans have sacrificed a great deal for the right to voice your opinion by voting in elections.  It would be a disgrace and a waste of many lives to not exercise your right to vote.  So, please make time Tuesday, November 4th to vote.

There are several facts that are important to consider before casting your vote for Town Council:

1.     Dale Crafts needs to attend more Council meetings and learn what and how the Town Council works and what the town’s issues are.

2.     Dean Willey is the only candidate who is a taxpayer and has suffered the tax increases and knows the efforts on families.

3.     Dean Willey owns a home in Lisbon.

4.     Dean Willey is very involved in the community.

5.     Lisa Ward does not pay real estate tax in Lisbon.

6.     The three years Lisa Ward has been on the council our taxes have gone up every year.

7.     Lisa Ward blocked every attempt to cut the Police Department budget.

8.     Lisa Ward had a resident removed, after she recognized him, for speaking against the Police Department Budget.   Our freedom of speech has been lost.

Please take these facts into consideration when you vote for the best candidate for Town Council.

The most critical issue is that every resident of Lisbon take the time to vote.

Crops will increase as aid decreases

Afghan farmers are experiencing a bumper crop of poppies this year.

Poppies yield opium, which in turn yields heroin.

The profits have funded the Taliban in the past - leading to temporarily successful American efforts to eradicate the crop.

However, it is a large part of the Afghan economy, and has made a comeback.

With American troops withdrawing and foreign aid expected to dwindle, Afghan reliance on the opium trade doesn't look like it will end anytime soon.

SELF-FUNDING ENERGY REDUCTION PROJECT

Last night at the Lisbon Community School cafeteria, approximately 40 residents gathered to listen to Tom Seekins, Siemens Representative and Don Fellows from the Planning Board.  The briefing was to explain the Self-Funding Energy Reduction project which is Question 3 on the town’s ballot.  The people of Lisbon will be voting on this issue come Tuesday, November 4, 2014.

 Press here for presentation.

I have included with this article the slides utilized during this presentation.  After the briefing, there was a question and answer period and only two questions were asked by Dean Willey.

It is important that the residents of Lisbon turn out to vote on November 4, 2014.

Part Two

Lisbon Town/Schools Self-Funding Energy Reduction Project

Meet The Candidates Night‏

MEET THE CANDIDATES!

Last night, the three candidates running for the Town Council provided the people of Lisbon with their ideas and agendas.  The three candidates running for the one seat on the Town Council are Liza Ward; Dean Willey and Dale James Crafts.  Of the three, there is only one taxpayer who owns property and that is Dean Willey.  The other two do not own property or pay real estate taxes in Lisbon.

I do not want to spoil it for anyone, so I encourage everyone to watch the video of “meet the candidate’s night”.  I am not sure exactly what night it will be aired but it will appear on the Town web site.  Please, before you go to the polls to vote review the video and see which candidate makes the best impression on you.   My personal opinion is that Dean Willey stands out as the best candidate.

Lisa Ward has been a Councilor for three years and during that time our taxes went up every year.  I live on a fixed income and cannot stand for my taxes to continue to rise.  Councilor Ward refused to address or entertain any cuts to the Police Department’s budget.  In my opinion, there are several areas of the Police Department budget that needed to be cut and Councilor Ward refused to consider any of them.

Dale Crafts is an excellent young man who is inexperienced and during these tough financial times would be lost.  Dale Crafts needs to attend council meetings and get to know how the local government works.  I know that his father was once a Councilor but it is not the same.

Dean Willey is the candidate that will get my vote for Councilor.

SIMPLE BUDGETING

SIMPLE BUDGETING

At last night’s Town Council meeting, I witnessed yet another act of what I consider “Dumbing Down” of America.  It is disguised as Lease to Purchase method of acquiring equipment for the town but it is nothing more than borrowing money the town does not have.

Last year Mr. Dale Olmstead briefed the Council on the financial situation the town was facing and recommended a maintenance budget for last year.  Instead of listening to Mr. Olmstead, some Department Heads continue to budget unnecessary equipment.

On October 7, 2014, Runyon Kersteen Ouellette (RKO) briefed the Town Council on the results of the Fiscal Year 2014 annual audit.  These results contained the usual results and recommendations.  However, an interesting fact came out of this briefing and that is the town’s Undesignated Fund is at 7% instead of the 12.5% recommended by our Charter.  The Undesignated Fund is for emergency use and is suppose to keep the town from going bankrupt.   Remember prior to Eldridge coming to this town, there was over three million dollars in this account.

Being 5.5% below the recommend level for the Undesignated Fund has changed the approach by some Department Heads.  Now these Department Heads are using the Lease to Purchase program to fulfill their perceived needs.   Lease to Purchase means the town makes yearly payments instead of paying the purchasing price upfront.   Lease to Purchase means the taxpayers have to pay more for the equipment because the town is borrowing the money and making yearly payment.  Yes, the town gets the equipment now but every year the town has a contract to pay yearly payments with tax dollars.  This is one of the reasons our taxes continue to go up every year.

Think about it!  If the town continues to borrow money it does not have, how is the town ever going to get out of debt?  You do not have to be a rocket scientist or an accountant to figure this one out.  In what universe do you spend more than you make and think for a second that you are going to get out of debt?

These Department Heads, Town Manager, and this Town Council have got to immediately stop spending money the town does not have.  This means no more Lease to Purchase agreements.  If the town does not have the money to purchase the equipment outright, the town does not purchase it.  In cases of an emergency acquisition, the Town Manager should take an appropriate amount from each department until the town has the total purchasing price.  This practice of borrowing money with a Lease to Purchase is wrong for the town and needs to stop.

Common sense tells you that spending more money than you have is a true sign of pending disaster.
