Despite the high regard in which Americans have held the military for generations, there is a lot about the military that those who haven’t served don’t quite understand.
Veterans speak a language peppered with acronyms like DD-214, jargon like “watch your six “ and recollections of shared hardship that can leave others scratching their heads.
Wow.
Popular liberal law professor and pundit Alan Dershowitz appeared on Fox News’ the Kelly File earlier this week with Megyn Kelly and said something that you might have expected to hear from a conservative pundit… but not from a left-leaner like Dershowitz. Black Lives Matter is endangering the fairness of our legal system. Because they’re rooting for outcomes based on race. Started a long time ago. Started with the O.J. Simpson case… African-Americans wanted an acquittal without regard to the evidence. Now, many want convictions without regard to the evidence. We cannot allow our justice system to be turned into a kind of racial categorization where people root for outcome.
Normally I write a recap of
meetings/workshop I attend but Joe Hill has already done that for me in an
excellent manner.I want to add a few
items that I personally feel are important to the people to know.
First, I want to address the
results of the survey on Route 9 Business and Land Use.There
were 216 responses to the survey.On the
question “What should be considered for future business on Route 9?”48.58% answered “No changes are needed for small businesses
on Route 9.” During the workshop, a show of hands
indicated that the majority of the people are in favor of leaving Route 9
alone.
However, there are always
those that have a difference opinion.This was clear by the fact one family
(Gina and Rick Mason) wants to sell cars off their property.This is a clear violation of the current
Rural Open I where they live.However,
because they are, I believe, members of the “Good Old Boy” network; the town is
trying to find a way to make this possible. Chairman Roger Bickford and Fern LaRochelle are
trying to make this happen.This is the
second time our leadership have bent the rules for these two.Several years
ago, Rick Mason applied for a “Conditional Use” for his excavation
business.Strange thing happened; the application was
approved with no conditions and it was based on a “Temporary Land Use condition
without an expiration date.How is it
possible to have a temporary land use condition without an expiration date?
Amanda Bunker provided a
presentation and facilitated the workshop.No matters how you try and
spin it, the majority of people in attendance was not in favor of changing the
zoning on Route 9.The majority
of residents living on Route 9 like the scenery and the characteristics of the
Rural Open I.It is a shame that the town is spending a great deal of time and
money to pacific one family. It is
disgraceful to have all the energy of the Planning Board and the Chairman of
the Town Council dedicated to making one family happy when it is definitely not
in the best interest of the town to change the zoning.
Let’s put this to rest for
another four or five years.It was
brought out by Amanda Bunker; this very same situation came up before with the
same results.Enough is enough; let’s move on to more important things.
Last night (5/26/6) Lisbon held a
workshop to discuss the possibility of changing the zoning on rte 9 to
“Commercial Zoning”. This public workshop was attended by approximately 60 people. (5 tables times 12 persons per table). The vast majority of the attendees were residents of rte 9.
Many of the residents voiced concerns
about losing rte 9’s rural/agriculture feel. They also felt that
changing rte 9 to commercial would not only destroy that rural feel but
also open the door for used car lots, junkyards or worse.
After 2 hours of discussion the
consensus was to leave rte 9/s zoning alone and not add a commercial
zone. This sentiment was best exhibited by a show of hands that overwhelmingly supported keeping the existing zoning.
The people have spoken loud and clear, NO ZONING CHANGE IS WANTED OR NEEDED.
The only support for this zoning change appeared to come from a handful
of people that, with one exception, didn’t live on rte 9.
It is my belief that this unwanted
zoning change is being pushed by one of Lisbon’s “powers that be” for
their own financial gain.
Zoning changes should benefit all in Lisbon not just one or two of Lisbon’s elite. Respectfully Joe Hill

A State Department audit released 05/26/2016 faultsHillary Clinton in stating that her and her team ignored clear guidance from the State Department that her private email use in sensitive government matters broke Federal standards and could leave sensitive materials vulnerable to hackers. The Inspector General's review goes on to say hacking attempts forced then Secretary of State Clinton off of using email at one point in 2011.
Hillary Clinton’s use of a personal email address as secretary of state appears to have run afoul of five different laws and regulations governing information security at the State Department, according to a recent government report.
The report, from the State Department’s inspector general, has renewed scrutiny of Clinton’s email practices, which critics say jeopardized sensitive or classified information and shielded Clinton’s activities from laws designed to ensure public access to government information.
The inspector general’s examination focused on statutes and regulations specific to the State Department. The more serious allegations against Clinton have to do with potential violations of the Espionage Act, which lays out penalties for “gross negligence” in the handling of sensitive national security information
It is a known fact that the state of California automatically registers people to vote when they obtain a California driver’s license. Since California also gives driver’s licenses to illegal aliens, this means they are also registered to vote in all elections US citizens can vote in.

Washington Free Beacon Sen. Tom Cotton (R., Ark.) blasted Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid (D., Nev.) in a more than two-minute long screed Wednesday morning over his “cancerous leadership” and his “bitter, vulgar, incoherent ramblings.”
In his remarks, noted by the Washington Examiner, Cotton attacked Reid for, as Sen. John McCain (R., Ariz.) put it, trying to stall a $602 billion defense bill for partisan reasons. The bill passed out of the Senate Wednesday with a 98-0 vote. Cotton, visibly angry, said Reid had ground the Senate to a halt and falsely claimed it was written “in the dead of night.”

A viral National Rifle Association (NRA) television commercial features country music star Charlie Daniels warning terrorists that Americans are fighters who — together with the NRA — stand as “freedom’s safest place.” During the 60-second commercial, Daniels intimates that the American spirit is not well-reflected in President Obama and that Obama and “his weak-kneed Ivy League friends” may give would-be attackers the wrong idea; their weakness may actually give terrorists a false sense of security.

Perhaps the worst thing (for Hillary Clinton) in the state department IG report is evidence that Hillary lied, and then how her SPOX (spokesperson) lied about her lies. So much of what she said about the email scandal was simply false, so much about what the Inspector General (IG report) revealed is that she had a disregard for America’s secrets, and so much of what her spokespeople said yesterday after the report seemed to ignore the truth, that it’s a wonder how any American could ever trust her again. This report wasn’t issued by a GOP superPac or congressional committee, this was an Obama appointed IG in the Obama administration state department.
The State Department’s 78-page report says that Hillary Clinton of violating department policy. No word yet on the results of the FBI’s investigation.

(THE UNITED WEST) On Tuesday on the campus of Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton, FL, the university’s Muslim Student Association’s hosted a so-called Islamophobia panel discussion, which was attended by the United West.

One would think that the Town
Council works for and answers to the people; since the Town Council is elected
by the people.Is that the case today in

April 12, 2016 was the last
budget workshop where Department Heads presented their proposed budget to the
Council.In previous years, the Council held numerous
budget workshops to try and reduce the operating cost of the town.However this year, under Chairman Roger
Bickford, there have been absolutely no
public budget workshops.This means that
the Town Council has made absolutely no attempt to reduce the proposed budget.
The current proposed budget
by the Town Manager is an increase of over half a million dollars.One would think that the Council should be
able to make cuts in this proposed budget to give taxpayers some relief on our
taxes instead of allowing the operating cost to continue increasing every year.So
far it has been approximately 42 days since the budget was presented and the
Town Council has made no attempt reduce this budget.
We need Councilors that are
looking out for the taxpayers and are trying to reduce spending in an attempt
to lower taxes.Councilors are charged with the responsibility of doing what is in the
best interest of the community and not their friends or personal agendas. Sitting idle and make absolutely no attempt to reduce the
proposed budget is irresponsible.It is the duty of the Chairman to set
meetings/workshops and to set the agenda for the same.So
what is Chairman Bickford doing to help the taxpayers?
This is yet another example of the “Good Old Boys” being
in complete control of our Town Council.
