RECAP TOWN COUNCIL MEETING – JULY 5TH

This is a recap of the Tuesday night’s, July 5, 2016, meeting of the Town Council.

Under Council Orders, Resolutions & Ordinances –

1. Striping Bid Award – The Council approved the contract to Lucas Striping, LLC for $16,000.00 by a vote of 5-0. Councilors Albert and Metivier were excused.

2. Deaf Child Sign Request – The Council approved this by a vote of 5-0.

3. MMA Legislative Policy Committee Official Ballot – The Council approved the ballot with only one candidate on it by a vote of 5-0.

4. Brownfield Grant Award Acceptance – The Council approved the award of $200,000.00 Brownfield Grant by a vote of 5-0. This money will be available October 1, 2016.

5. Yard Sale Ordinance (First Reading) – The Council approved the first reading of the proposed ordinance by a vote of 5-0.

6. Banner Application – Positive Change Lisbon – This was approved by the Council by a vote of 5-0.

Under Other Business - The Town Manager alerted the Council they needed to start work on a Bond for Paving and Loader and any Charter Amendments that needed to go on the November Ballot.

Under Appointments – Mr. David Bowie was re-appointed as Chairman of the Ethnics Panel.

A former White House counsel believes Hillary Clinton should have her security clearance revoked due to the FBI’s assessment that she was “extremely careless” with classified information as secretary of state.

C. Boyden Gray, who worked in the White House as legal counsel for both President Ronald Reagan and George H.W. Bush, said that Clinton should no longer receive daily intelligence briefings after FBI Director James Comey revealed the agency’s finding from its investigation that she was “extremely careless” with “very sensitive, highly classified information.”

Charles Krauthammer claimed the takeaway from Tuesday’s statement made by FBI Director James Comey is that Hillary Clinton is “a non-criminal liar.”

“The conclusion of the day is that she [Hillary] is a non-criminal liar,” Krauthammer said. “The lying is obvious when you compare her statements with what Comey said, but he [Comey] came out with a puzzling conclusion.”

It should come as no surprise to anyone that FBI Director James Comey cleared Hillary Clinton of any wrongdoing after questioning her concerning her use of a private e-mail server in dealing with classified information. The New York Times interviewed “a dozen campaign advisors and allies” to come up with a picture of Hillary Clinton’s first 100 days as president – a picture so rosy and fawning that it might as well have been painted by Hillary herself. Despite a few bland warnings that Hillary might not be liberal enough to satisfy supporters of Bernie Sanders, the Times offered nothing else in the way of critical analysis. To the contrary, they presented her as the answer to years of Washington gridlock.

FREEDOM FORCE: Florida high school hero gets suspended AFTER preventing school bus shooting

A Florida high school hero who wrestled a loaded gun away from a football player threatening to shoot a teammate was himself suspended for three days.

The 16-year-old, from Cypress Lake High School in Fort Myers, was punished for his part in disarming the boy who wanted to blast another student on the school bus ride home.
Witnesses said the suspect was aiming the .22 caliber revolver “point blank” at a student and saying he was going to shoot.
But, instead of rewarding the heroic teen who put his own life at risk, school authorities suspended him “for his role in an incident where a weapon was present”.
The boy, who has not been publically identified, told Fox4Now.com there was “no doubt” he saved the target’s life with his actions.
“It’s dumb. How they going to suspend me for doing the right thing?” he told the news channel.

Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) director James Comey said Tuesday at a press conference that he will not recommend an indictment against Hillary Clinton, though he found “evidence” that she might have violated laws pertaining to the handling of classified information.

Comey announced a number of conclusions that support the findings of Breitbart News’coverage of the Clinton private email scandal, including that she sent and received information on her private server that was classified. Comey said that 110 of Clinton’s emails were classified at the time they were sent.

The BLM’s land management has been an epic failure and has either driven out, or burned out, much of Northern Nevada’s wildlife.
As I have highlighted numerous times in previous articles and radio broadcasts, it seems that any time the federal government gets its tentacles into an operation the cost goes up and the level of service goes down. The specific examples are too numerous to list, but can be easily obtained with a cursory web search. For this articles sake, the “operation” being referenced is is the mismanagement of Nevada lands, and the victims of said mismanagement is the very wildlife that the federal government proposes to protect. As I pointed out in my last article, Nevada’s Mustang population has suffered severely from BLM policies, but they’re not the only ones.

When Deputy Katie Barnes responded to a call and entered the apartment stairwell, she didn’t expect to be greeted by an AK-47.

But there Mohammed Abdou Laghaoui with the weapon hand, and he opened fire, hitting her in the stomach.
Deputy Barnes parked her cruiser out of sight, and proceeded up the stairs. That’s when Mohammed appeared. Barnes had no hope of finding security when Mohammed opened fire, though she did back up and return fire.

Reports were confirmed on Saturday morning that the Federal Bureau of Investigation interviewed Democratic presumptive presidential nominee Hillary Clinton for over three hours at FBI headquarters regarding the unsecured email server that she used and sent classified information over while Secretary of State.

The girl and her mother are suing the TSA for abuse.

Former Alaska Governor and Vice Presidential candidate Sarah Palin was in rare form on Tuesday when she took to Facebook to excoriate Hillary Clinton’s “devil may care” attitude about the culmination of the Benghazi investigation. Palin argued that the final report proved that Hillary Clinton was an inveterate liar whose selfishness cost the lives of four men in Benghazi, and who will undoubtedly cost even more lives if given the chance to lead our nation.

Is This What We Want On Rte. 9. ?

Several years ago Lisbon attempted to change the zoning on rte. 9 from residential to commercial. This attempt was quashed by Rte. 9 residents as well as the public in general.

Again this year some of the "good old boys" attempted to change this zoning to help one of their own open another used car lot in Lisbon.

Several weeks ago the Council held a workshop to get residents opinions on changing some or part of rte. 9 to commercial zoning. The workshop attendees (60+people) overwhelmingly rejected this idea and told the Council they wanted to keep rte. 9 residential.

After all of this rejection you would think Lisbon Council would drop this unwanted zoning change and get on with other Council business. This is not the case.

It appears the Council doesn't want to take "no" for an answer. Another public hearing is going to be announced in the near future in the hope it will give the Council the justification needed for this zoning change.When a "good old boy" wants something the Council will do whatever is necessary to accommodate their wishes.

I will not bore you with all the valid reasons the workshop gave to keep the residential zoning but I will try to give you a visual of what could happen to rte. 9 if the Council is allowed to give their friends this zoning change.

Changing rte. 9 to commercial will open it up to --USED CAR LOTS ---- JUNK YARDS --- TATTOO PARLORS ---PAYDAY LOAN SHARKS --- ETC.. None of these businesses will bring the kind of patrons that we want in Lisbon.

I am sure that the Council's friend would keep an attractive USED CAR LOT but they aren't the ones we need to be worried about. When we change the zoning for them it is also changed for everyone else that wants to place a business on rte. 9.

We should not jeopardize rte 9's beauty because one of the "good old boy's" wants a USED CAR LOT. We have enough of them on rte. 196.

Don't let the Council wear you down on this issue. Tell them to stop catering to "the good old boys".

FREEDOM FORCE: BREAKING: New Evidence Suggests the IRS Broke Federal Law

If you thought the story of how the IRS spent years persecuting conservatives was over, you were wrong. We’ve now known for years that the IRS was involved in some shady and likely illegal dealings in the years leading up to the 2012 presidential election. We even knew that the wrongdoing was likely initiated from near the top-of-the-heap, with IRS leaders who were directly connected to the White House. What we weren’t “sure” about was just how far these officials went to harass their political opponents and if they explicitly broke any federal laws.

LA ROTARY ANNOUNCES NEW CLUB PRESIDENT

Lewiston – Giselle St. Amand, Lewiston-Auburn 2015- 2016 Rotary Club President, ceremoniously passed the Presidency of the Club to Monique Roy during a luncheon meeting held on Thursday, June 30 at the Ramada Inn in Lewiston. Members of District 7790 thanked St. Amand for her year of Service Above Self and welcomed Roy as she shared her vision for the Club’s 100^th Anniversary of its Charter. Roy presented the results of a club-wide survey outlining the goals members would like to achieve. “Inviting local business owners, representatives from the economic and community sectors, along with city officials, and school groups topped the list of members to host as featured guest speakers for their weekly meetings,” shares Roy. “Our goals are aligned with Rotary International to continue our presence in the community with support and fundraising endeavors for local scholarships and community partnerships. Increasing membership will provide a network of new ideas and fellowship strengthening our club and our commitment to the community with projects for the benefit of others.” Two grants drafted by Roy were approved for the Club. Lewiston’s Universally Accessible Playground Project, i.e. Together We Play, was the recipient of a donation of $3,814 from the group toward the purchase of tuned drums. Grant funding will also provide the annual Autism Movie Event, in partnership with the Flagship Cinema in Auburn, in spring 2017. The 100^th Anniversary Celebration of the Club’s Charter is scheduled for April 22, 2017.
