A U.S. senator who took advantage of a loophole in ethics laws to avoid disclosing a $1.3 million credit line against her home is now warning that incomplete financial disclosures from cabinet nominees put the country at risk.
Sen. Elizabeth Warren’s (D., Mass.) warning came in the Washington Post, where she wrote that “it is critical that each nominee follows basic ethics rules to ensure that they will act for the benefit of all the American people.”

The State Department is reviewing a last-minute decision by former Secretary of State John Kerry to send $221 million to the Palestinians late last week over the objections of congressional Republicans.
The department said Tuesday it would look at the payment and might make adjustments to ensure it comports with the Trump administration’s priorities.
Kerry formally notified Congress that the State would release the money Friday morning, just hours before President Donald Trump took the oath of office.

FREEDOM FORCE: Do Two Legal Systems Exist – One for Conservatives and One for Liberals?

Much of the last election cycle revolved around the scandal regarding Democratic Presidential candidate Hillary Clinton using an illegal private, unsecured email server to handle classified information while Secretary of State, which is a violation of many laws, including the Espionage Act. Violations of this egregious and dangerous nature should result in enormous jail time, but the FBI refused to indict her on these charges, despite her enumerable lies regarding her lack of intent and “gross negligence.”
Be that as it may, while Clinton ultimately lost the election to President Donald Trump, it should not exonerate her for her crimes. We shall wait and see what happens regarding Clinton’s mishandling of classified information and if she gets away with her crimes she gets indicted.

Sens. Tom Cotton and Chuck Schumer reportedly got into an angry confrontation on the Senate floor Friday over Senate Democrats delaying the confirmation of Rep. Mike Pompeo for CIA director, The Weekly Standard reports.
Cotton was reportedly irate with Schumer’s delay of the confirmation vote and loudly accosted him on the Senate floor. Schumer retorted that the Senate had never confirmed a CIA director on Inauguration Day, adding that Senate Republicans did not do the same for former President Barack Obama. He continued that Cotton would have known this if he had been in the Senate eight years ago.

Regina Coppens Featured Guest Speaker February 9 at LA Rotary

Lewiston - On Thursday, February 9, Regina Coppens will be the featured guest speaker of Lewiston Auburn Rotary Club from noon to 1 p.m. at the Ramada Inn, Lewiston. Coppens lives in Belgrade and is a member of the League of Women Voters of Maine (LWVME) and serves on the Board of the LWVME Education Fund. It’s been just days since Trump has been sworn is as our 45th President and he is already planning to re-institute a policy that will bar foreign aid from being distributed to nongovernmental organizations that provide abortions. this includes Planned Parenthood, as told by a congressional staffer.
Of course, this is great news and a victory for Pro-lifers. A move like this has been customary for newly elected Republican Presidents to also re-institute the “Mexico city Policy” once stepping into office.

LISBON COMMUNICATION CENTER

This coming Tuesday night, January 24, 2017, our Town Council will conduct a workshop pertaining to the Lisbon Communication Center. The start time is 06:00 PM which is an earlier start time than normal meetings/workshop. The last time, the Lisbon Communication Center was discussed was on October 6, 2015.

At that time, the Town Council received a dog and pony show orchestrated by the Police Department. This dog and pony show was filled with misinformation and false statements. The reason it was allowed to happen is because of politics. At no time did the members of this dog and pony show verify their facts and certainly did not have the best interest of the community at heart. This is apparent by the FACT that all 911 calls received by the Androscoggin County Dispatch have to be relayed to the Lisbon Communication Center before our First Responded can be dispatched. If they could not reach the Lisbon Communication Center, First Responders do not get dispatched to the scene. I personally visited the Androscoggin County Dispatch and talked to the two operators on duty and they both said there were numerous times they could not reach the Lisbon Communication Center, the first time. This delay makes the town liable for the results of this delay.

I hope that the Chairman of the Town Council or the Town Manager has invited Sheriff Samson or Martin Fournier to attend this workshop to sort out what is true and what is false. The Town Council needs to have all the FACTS before making any conclusions.

The primary focus should be on improving the quality of life of our people by having Androscoggin County Dispatch or another Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) provide dispatch to Lisbon. This would mean that when a request for emergency services (911 calls) is received the 911 operator will immediately contact our First Responders and not have to relay the call to the Lisbon Communication Center. The current system puts our people’s lives at risk. Eliminating the middle process expedites the process and gets our First Responders on the scene more quickly. In an emergency, time is the most critical factor.

There is another advantage to having Androscoggin County Dispatch dispatching our First Responders and that is the elimination of the Lisbon Communication Center saving the town approximately

$200,000.00 tax dollars! This is a significant cost savings for the community.

Call you Councilors and ask to have representatives of the County attend this workshop so the community gets ONLY FACTS and not misinformation.
