There is a Reason We Have Citizen Committees and Boards in Place

Monday afternoon I went to Thompson’s field to watch a scrimmage football game. The team looks great as usual, under the direction of a first class coaching staff. I drove past the Suggs Middle school and the heart breaking mess that was made of the once handsome stand of white pine. I knew this mess had been made under the direction of the Superintendent with no intent to harvest them until after the fact. The school board was not told, the planning board was not included and the conservation board was also left out. This is a Federal State funded Town property not to be disturbed unless proper steps are taken.

The school board was to meet at 7:00 that evening, so I thought I would go listen to the explanation the superintendent had to offer. There was no explanation, which leads me to believe the superintendent like our so called town manager can come in from out of town and do anything they want and the town has to take it. This act is if nothing else misuse of entrusted properties and the trees should be replanted. This act not only looks terrible but it is going to allow the wind to blow through this winter making the schools more costly to heat. The shade provided from the trees was welcomed when younger children played in the small practice field. This is why different boards are formed so we as a community make better decisions.
