A Reader Writes About Lisbon Economic Development

WHY IN THE WORLD IS ROSIE BRADLEY, ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT DIRECTOR, $60,000.00 YEARLY SALARY, STILL HOLDING LOGO CONTESTS?

PEOPLE WHO LIVE IN AND LOVE LISBON ALREADY KNOW THE ATTRIBUTES OF THE TOWN, ITS PEOPLE AND BUSINESS-FRIENDLY ENVIRONMENT. YET ROSIE BRADLEY CONTINUES ON WITH THIS “LOGO CONTEST”, EVEN EXTENDING THE DEADLINE. NOW SHE IS ALSO TAKING CALLS AND SCHEDULING DELIVERIES FOR THE ANNUAL THANKSGIVING DINNER, FORMERLY RUN BY THE ROTARY CLUB. AN EXECUTIVE MAKING $60,000.00 PER YEAR NEEDS TO DO EXECUTIVE DUTIES, SUCH AS GETTING BUSINESS INTO THIS TOWN TO CREATE JOBS SO THAT FEWER PEOPLE NEED TO DEPEND ON THIS DINNER.

WHY ISN’T OUR GENERAL ASSISTANCE DIRECTOR IN CHARGE OF COORDINATING DELIVERIES AND TAKING NAMES FOR THE THANKSGIVING DINNER, AS HAS BEEN DONE FOR AT LEAST THE LAST 25-30 YEARS.

WHY ISN’T THE TOWN SECRETARY TAKING NAMES AND SCHEDULING DELIVERIES AS HAS BEEN DONE IN THE PAST. IT IS NICE THAT THE TOWN HAS PICKED UP THE SLACK NOW THAT THE ROTARY HAS DISBANDED, BUT SURELY THERE ARE STILL MANY VOLUNTEERS AMONG FORMER ROTARY MEMBERS THAT COULD DO THE “CLERICAL” ASPECTS OF THIS DINNER. PERHAPS STEVE ELDRIDGE IS TRYING TO GET ROSIE’S NAME OUT THERE AS GETTING INVOLVED WITH THE COMMUNITY, WHEN IN FACT SHE NEEDS TO BE INVOLVED WITH THE BUSINESS COMMUNITY, HENCE HER JOB TITLE AND LEVEL OF SALARY.

CU DOS TO THE LISBON REPORTER ON ITS COVERAGE OF THE SENIOR PROGRAM AT THE MTM CENTER. PERHAPS MORE SENIORS WILL GET INVOLVED IN THAT PROGRAM NOW THAT THEY HAVE RECEIVED SOME PUBLICITY.

SINCERELY,

A LISBON CITIZEN
