According to a CIS report slated for release on Tuesday, the Obama administration is removing chancroid, granuloma inguinale, and lymphogranuloma venereum from the list of diseases that would prevent a non-U.S. citizen from entering the U.S.

GOPDD: Food Stamp Beneficiaries Exceed 45 Million for 55 Straight Months

(Via Freebeacon) The number of individuals receiving benefits from the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, otherwise known as food stamps, has exceeded 45 million for 55 straight months, according to data released by the Department of Agriculture.
There were 45,368,265 beneficiaries of the food stamp program in October 2015, the latest month for which data is available. The number increased by over 85,000 from September to October.

GOPDD: Prison Inmates Received $7.7 Billion in Health Care Services Through Obamacare

WFB- Prison inmates received $7.7 billion in health care services in fiscal year 2011 through the Affordable Care Act, according to a recent report from Pew Charitable Trusts. 

According to the report, in January 2014, Obamacare created an opportunity for states that expanded their Medicaid program by giving them additional federal funds, which made it easier for them to provide coverage for inmates. By making coverage available to all individuals, including non-disabled adults without dependent children who earn up to 138 percent of the federal poverty level, states could allow convicts increasingly to receive coverage.

The Senate passed a fast-track measure Thursday designed to unravel key ObamaCare provisions and defund Planned Parenthood for one year. 

The bill passed 52-47, opposed by Democrats and Republicans Susan Collins of Maine and Mark Kirk of Illinois. Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders did not vote. The budgetary tool known as reconciliation prevented the possibility of a filibuster and only required 51 votes.

BDN: Maine health care providers, hospitals prepared for coding challenge

The American College of Sports Medicine says 25,000 people sprain their ankles every day in the United States. Under the new ICD-10 coding system, a person's treatment for an ankle sprain will be given a code that is more specific to the injury than previous coding methods. 

AUGUSTA, Maine — Health care providers across the state began working Oct. 1 with a new system of medical codes that has them describing illnesses and injuries in more detail than ever before, and officials from hospitals and medical associations said earlier this week that they are prepared for the challenge.

At the beginning of this month, more than 100,000 new medical codes took effect in hospitals across the nation as part of the 10th revision of the International Classification of Diseases, or ICD-10. The revisions were made to keep up with changes in medical technology and patient treatment.
