WND: 'Top teacher' winner quits due to Common Core

Announced to stunned audience: 'I can’t do it anymore'

Honored as the “Top Teacher” by ABC’s “Live with Kelly and Michael” show, Stacie Starr was speaking at an education forum earlier this week when she dropped a bombshell.

The veteran teacher at Elyria High School in Elyria, Ohio, told a stunned audience Monday she will resign at the end of the school year because of the new federal Common Core system of standards and assessments adopted by her state, reported the local Chronicle-Telegram newspaper.

At the forum, which sought to help parents navigate the complex standardized testing system, Starr was talking about how special education has suffered under Common Core.
As she fought back tears, she disclosed she is leaving traditional education and plans ‘to teach in a different way.”

“I can’t do it anymore, not in this ‘drill ‘em and kill ‘em’ atmosphere,” she said. “I don’t think anyone understands that in this environment if your child cannot quickly grasp material, study like a robot and pass all of these tests, they will not survive.”
Her announcement was met with gasps of disbelief, the paper reported.
She explained that she has faith in her ninth-grade students, but they are reading at sometimes a fourth- and fifth-grade level.

“Each and every day, I have to look in my students’ eyes and tell them I can’t help them because the state has decided they have to prove what they know,” she said, according to the Chronicle-Telegram.

Teaching is getting harder, she said, because “the rules keep changing.”
Last month, a sixth-grade teacher in upstate New York tearfully asked the local school board to be reassigned due to her objections to teaching using Common Core, reported WNYT-TV in Albany, New York.

“This is not developmentally appropriate for my students, and I find it cruel and harmful to suggest that it is,” Jennifer Rickert told the board.

“I do not believe in knowingly setting up my students for failure,” she said. “I cannot remain silent for one more day.”

Rickert received a standing ovation by parents and teachers in the audience.

On Monday, Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal, a possible 2016 presidential candidate, began promoting a 42-page proposal to reform American education at the national level that would repeal Common Core along with a general rollback of federal authority. He wants to increase school-choice options for parents and give educators greater administrative freedom.

‘I have to get out’

Meanwhile, another teacher told Starr at the Ohio education forum she also is quitting.
“I’m like you. I feel like I have to get out,” said Jackie Conrad, a third-grade teacher.

PJ Media noted another veteran teacher in the Elyria district, Dawn Neely, implored the school board to take control of the “testing culture” in their local schools, the Chronicle-Telegram said in Feb. 5 story.

“I don’t know what to do. I am morally against what we are doing, and I think history will judge us for what we do to fight for our kids,” she told the Elyria school board. “Look through the test books, and you tell me if you think they are developmentally appropriate. No one is advocating for our district, and I am asking my district to be honest with the parents about what we are doing to students.”

In response, the board president, Kathryn Karpus, said the district can do nothing about it, because it’s bound by Ohio laws that mandate the testing.

As WND reported, Common Core also has been accused of seizing control of education from local jurisdictions, politicizing subjects, censoring conservative viewpoints, dumbing down subjects, imposing one-size-fits-all standards and data mining of private information.

Mary Calamia, a licensed clinical social worker, said she observed a significant increase in the number of students struggling with anxiety and depression since Common Core’s implementation in New York state.

“What was so upsetting for [the children] was they couldn’t do the work, they feel stupid, they were extremely anxious, [and] extremely distressed about going to school,” she said.

In Georgia, as WND reported, Meg Norris was forced out of her teaching job in Hall County last year after she ran afoul of mandatory testing for Common Core.

“We were one of the first counties in the nation to implement Common Core, and at first the teachers felt like we were special, we were all excited. I drank the Kool-Aid,” said Norris. “But after teaching Common Core in my class for about 18 months, I started seeing a lot of behaviors in my students that I hadn’t seen before. They started becoming extremely frustrated and at that age, 12 years old, they can’t verbalize why they couldn’t ‘get it.’”

Will Estrada, director of federal relations for the Home School Legal Defense Association, has raised privacy concerns. He said the assessments tied to Common Core collect more than 400 points of data on every child.

“It’s their likes and dislikes, grade-point average all the way through school, their home situation, health questions,” he said. “It’s an incredibly invasive collection of information that they are trying to collect in what they call P-20, or pre-K through workforce.”

Palestinian Authority Demnds Inclusion In Chapel Hill Muslim Murders Investigation

Calling Tuesday’s murder of three Palestinian-Americans in Chapel Hill, NC an act of terrorism, the Palestinian Authority has requested that the U.S. include their investigators in their inquiry.

The incident was initially reported as being one of a dispute over parking which escalated. That investigation is also exploring the possibility of charging the perpetrator, Craig Stephen Hicks, with a hate crime, because the victims were Muslims.

It’s quite easy for the Palestinian Authority to ignore the Israeli victims whose killers they revere and turn into national heroes. That’s different, that’s what they see as good terrorism because it is directed against those they hate. The hate component is acceptable as well, as long as it serves their interests. Absent the proper victim and perpetrator, it could be criminal.

HOW WILL THE REVALUATION AFFECT YOUR TAXES???

On February 24, 2015 at 07:00 PM, the Town Council will conduct a Revaluation Informational meeting.  This will be a workshop with a quest speaker from the Maine Taxation Bureau to provide information as to how the town will be implementing the completed revaluation.  This revaluation took approximately five (5) years and cost the taxpayers approximately $400,000 tax dollars to complete.

As it stands right now this workshop will be in the Town Council chambers at the Town Office.

The revaluation, as I understand it, goes into effect with the spring tax bills.  The impact of the revaluation coupled with our already outrageous taxes will surely be a challenge to every taxpayer.

This will be a great opportunity to let the Council hear your opinions on the implementation of the revaluation and next year’s budget.    This is a great opportunity to explain to the Council your personal struggles with these increases in our taxes.

But every February, the usual suspects (race profiteers and America haters) use Black History Month to double down on their rhetoric. White America is once again beat over the head with slavery as liberals argue the need for federal government payback (reparations). In a nutshell, the Left’s annual message is America is still racist and owes blacks, big time.

The Left’s approach to Black History Month is to celebrate black achievement from a divisive “blacks vs white America” point of view; insidiously leaving out the contributions of whites from black success stories. Their desire is to create the illusion that these blacks succeeded “in spite of” racist white America burning the midnight oil plotting ways to keep them down. Clearly, the Left’s intention is not to unite Americans nor heal the racial divide which has grown exponentially under Obama.

Unbelievable Maxine Waters calls Americans against Sharia Law BIGOTS

So much for the oath Maxine Waters swore to protect. The Qur’an states 1: “Fight Those Who Do Not Believe” (Surah 9:29) fighting people that don’t believe. Don’t make Allies with Jews and Christians 5:51.

There’s no place in our Constitution that talks about Allah. This is America we believe in freedom, liberty and human rights. If you want to practice Sharia Law, Go back to where you came from. This is a direct conflict with our first amendment rights in the US Consistution.

Sharia law and U.S. law conflict in numerous ways, including on issues of freedom of speech, freedom of conscience, and equality of rights for women. Allowing Sharia Law to be a determining factor in U.S. courtrooms threatens those rights for all of us.

Mark Levin – CNN’s Cuomo “Rights Don’t Come From God” Comments – Definition Of Tyranny

CNN’s combative on-air liberal agitator, Chris Cuomo, got into a testy exchange on Thursday with Alabama Supreme Court Chief Justice Roy Moore over the topic of same-sex marriage. During the exchange Cuomo asserted his position that our rights do not come from God; that they come from men.

Mark Levin injects some rational, clear thinking, reminding the audience “Rights are not about laws; rights are not about power.” He asks, “Where do these unalienable rights come from…life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness? They don’t come from man. They don’t come from a collection of men that we call government. These are rights. You’re born with these rights. They don’t come from reason, they don’t come from logic. They are, period.”

The right to live is not a right conferred by man; birth, supposed not to be a right conferred by man. You see ladies and gentlemen we have certain rights outside of government. We have certain rights that belong to us as individual human beings. Not because some Congress says so, not because some president or Supreme Courts says so or the EPA says so. Not because Chris Cuomo says so. It’s because it is so.”

Senator Says No More IRS Funding Until Trust Is Restored, Internal Problems Addressed

The scandal at the IRS regarding the targeting of conservative groups and individuals remains in a state of suspended animation and perpetual obstruction from within the agency and the White House, even as new information of questionable hiring practices are emerging.  An Inspector General’s report acknowledged on Thursday that hundreds of former employees who had performed poorly or had other negatives such as integrity and security questions in their employment histories have been rehired by the agency.

In addition to their current difficulties, IRS officials are responsible for the oversight and implementation of obamacare.  Also on the immediate horizon is the implementation of the Obama illegal dictatorial amnesty, the impact to the agency from that action is still unknown.

With all the earmarks of a seriously mismanaged bureaucratic black hole, Director John Koskinen is asking for more money. If something in Washington isn’t working, the typical solution is to throw more taxpayer money at it. Koskinen’s hand is out, his agency needs to make ends meet.

Ralph Peters – A Triumph For Putin In Ukraine, More Trickery From “Vile” Obama In Middle East

Once again national sovereignty takes a back seat as the global elitists within the EU negotiated away the rights of the people of Ukraine, surrendering to Vladimir Putin and thereby avoiding the unpleasantries of continued confrontation.

France and Germany joined together on behalf of the “free world” to slice up Ukraine and hand it over to Russia and Vladimir Putin. According to Col Peters, what the two EU members got out of the deal was that they don’t have to enforce sanctions against Russia, a win for Putin. Putin also benefited in his significant territory and resources acquisitions. The Ukrainians got nothing and will surely end up with much less as the hostilities are not yet over.

The forces of the pro-Russian “separatists” have been joined by the Russian military and are surging into other areas in advance of an impending deadline, still a few days out, in order to confiscate even more Ukrainian land.

Nancy Pelosi, Hoyer On Offense, Blaming Republicans For The Senate Dems Obstruction Of DHS Funding

We knew back in December when John Boehner, Mitch McConnell and their cohorts forced the CRomnibus spending bill through that the current debate and the fight over the illegal dictatorial amnesty would come down to each side trying to paint the other as endangering the security of the U.S. and get public opinion on their side.

While the Democrats are clearly the better and more experienced liars, the Republicans have truth on their side, which could be an effective weapon if properly used. That is where the Republicans are weak; getting their message out and properly identifying the Democrats as the villains they are has not been their strong suit.

On Friday, the push continued for amnesty from House Democrats with them urging their Republican counterparts to pass a “clean bill,” one which funds not only the DHS, but the criminal actions of their dictatorial leader as well.

NOW IN LIBYA: The Islamic State (ISIS) appears to have slaughtered 21 Egyptian Coptic Christians

Twenty-one Egyptian Coptic Christians kidnapped by ISIS in Libya around New Year’s are feared dead, after Twitter accounts linked to the Libyan branch of the Islamic State announced they had been slaughtered.

ANSAMED  There is no official confirmation yet but Egyptian media believe the news to be reliable and two pictures released by the same Twitter sources show what they describe as “the Islamic State carrying out the execution of Coptic prisoners in the province of Tripoli”.

In the first picture five men wearing the notorious orange jumpsuit are kneeling while hooded hangmen armed with knives stand behind them. The caption, written in English, describes them as “the humiliated followers of the Coptic church”

It’s Getting Worse, $20,000 Free Money For Illegals, Voting And Employment Preference, Whose Country Is This?

The all-out assault on American culture, sovereignty and financial stability continues with Obama now opening the national checkbook to virtually anybody who doesn’t have a U.S. birth certificate, plus preferred squatter status in employment. He’s also reaping the rewards of the false anti-voter ID discrimination campaign, indicating this amnesty has been in the works for over a decade.

J.D. Hayworth plays a clip of IRS Commissioner John Koskinen admitting in testimony before the House that illegals who were working in violation of our laws prior to the as yet not implemented illegal amnesty declaration will be eligible to apply for free money via the earned income credit for the last three years, in addition to 2014. The maximum amount for each year is $5,000 dollars. In essence, the amnesty is being applied retroactively for the purposes of obtaining yet another handout in the form of free money. Of course, it’s a one way street, retroactively do not apply to their law violations, failure to pay taxes or a tax obligation.

Hayworth interviews Rep Mick Mulvaney (R-SC) regarding this issue, and who describes himself as being flabbergasted when he learned the truth. He also addresses the critical issue of a total absence of contact, investigation of the consequences or any other responsible fiscal due diligence being conducted on the part of the White House prior to the dictatorial proclamation. That reckless financial endangerment is a serious issue, according to Rep Mulvaney.
