There is a very simple explanation as to why the country seems to be experiencing the gun violence of recent years. It basically comes down to one simple explanation, Liberals. Though I’m sure they’ll take exception to that, the reality is that we live in a society that has lost all sense of morality over the last sixty-odd years, leading to a societal breakdown. Brought to us by liberal politicians, liberal educators, and liberals in the entertainment industry.

As a child of the late sixties and early seventies, I grew up during the era of “free love,” “flower power,” “make love not war,” and “down with the pigs.” I witnessed firsthand what has been called traditional American values being tossed aside. Championed no less by liberals on the left wing of the American political spectrum.

It was liberals who preached to us that capitalism was corrupt and communism wasn’t all that bad. T-shirts with the image of Che Guevara were flying off the shelves during that era, and one can still find his image on posters and T-shirts nowadays. Even though the truth of what a brutal and despicable person he was is well-known and out there for anyone to see, as long as they choose to.

TOWNHALL: Hundreds of Generals, Admirals Line Up Against Obama's Iran Deal

It was just three short days ago when President Obama was calling Republican opponents to his deal with Iran, the world's most prolific state-sponsor of terrorism, "crazies." Of course, Obama fails to acknowledge it isn't just "crazy" Republicans who oppose the deal, it's fellow Democrats and the majority of the American people. Now, 200 admirals and generals can be added to the opposition list. From the Washington Post:

A group of nearly 200 retired generals and admirals sent a letter to Congress on Wednesday urging lawmakers to reject the Iran nuclear agreement, which they say threatens national security.

The letter is the latest in a blizzard of missives petitioning Congress either to support or oppose the agreement with Iran, which would lift sanctions if Iran pared back its nuclear program. Letters have come from ad hoc groupings of rabbis, nuclear scientists, arms-control and nonproliferation experts — and now, retired senior military officers, many of whom have worked in the White House during various administrations dating to the 1980s.

“The agreement will enable Iran to become far more dangerous, render the Mideast still more unstable and introduce new threats to American interests as well as our allies,” the letter states.

ROBBED AGAIN!!!!

The citizens of Lisbon are robbed again of their right to settle disputes.  The Town Council consisting of Chairman Dillon Pesce and his four minions has successfully striped the people of Lisbon, the right to hold a Special Town meeting required by paragraph Section 8-11(d) which reads “Special Town Meeting.  The qualified voters of the Town shall have the power to reconsider any budget appropriation at a special Town meeting called by petition.  The petition must cite the specific appropriation(s) to be included in the warrant for the special Town meeting.”

Since Chairman Pesce could not allow this to happen, he had the Town Attorney provide a legal review that said the School Budget approved by the Regional School Unit (Town Council) does not meet this requirement.  However, this paragraph does not state an approved budget appropriations.  It simple says ANY budget appropriations.  A legal review is not etched in stone but an opinion by an attorney.  We all know what opinions are like.

There are very few individuals that have the money or time to sue the Town so stupid rulings like this goes unchallenged.  A judge is the final determining authority in cases like this.  In order to keep these guys honest, it is essential to take them to court regardless of the cost.

As a result of no one challenging this ruling, the Town has committed taxes which eliminate any chance of increasing funding to the School budget.  Now, no matter how many elections are held (at approximately $3,000.00 tax dollars) the end result can never change. 

Chairman Pesce and his four minions have caused the School Department to live with a budget the Town Council approved.   This budget was never approved by the people and according to state law has to continue until it does.  This means taxpayers are going to be wasting $3,000.00 each election with absolutely no chance of affecting a change, thank you Chairman Pesce, Councilors Bickford, Metivier Brunelle and Crafts.  These councilors ignored the Town Charter, again.

The only losers here are the students in our school system.

SCHOOL STREET SPEEDWAY

Is there anypone but me concerned that School Street is being used as a Speedway?

Cars, trucks, motorcycles come off Route 196 and going 40-50 miles per hour

before they hit Vining Street. Often times even more !!!!

The 25 miles per hour speed limit is completely ignored.

 

I feel like the School Street police when I yell at speeders to slow down.

 

I complained to the police department more than once.

One year they placed the mobile sign noting the speed limit and

mph of the vehicle. Drivers slowed down when they saw the

sign, and speed as usual after the sign was gone.

 

And still nothing has been done.

 

I made a formal complaint to Town Manager Diane Barnes

yesterday afternoon and asked if speed bumps could be installed

at the west end of School Street?

 

I shall be making that request at the Tuesday

September 1, 2015 town council meeting.

 

If anyone else is concerned, please call the police department

at 353-2500 or the Town Manager at 353-3000, extension 104.

If U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry has his way the United Nations will be able to say if Americans are allowed to have their Second Amendment rights. He has just signed an anti-gun treaty with the United Nations that the U.S. Senate has already said it is against.

The treaty Kerry signed without authorization from the Senate would create an un-Constitutional registry of all US gun buyers and would lead to the UN controlling American’s gun rights.

IT’S ALL ABOUT CONTROL!!!!

Have you ever stopped to wonder; why all the Referendum Questions on a ballot are always “Non-Binding”?    This is because if the people disagree with the Town Council then the Town Council can ignore the very people whom elect them.  This way, the Town Council never has to comply with the people’s wishes.

Our Constitution guarantee the rights of the people.  It makes sure than the voice of the people is heard but what it does not guarantee is that the governing board has to comply with the voice of the people.  This is exactly what Chairman Pesce and the Town Council does every day.   The Town Council allows the people to speak in Audience Participation but turn around and totally ignore what the people have to say and simply do as they please.  There are so many examples of this it would be impossible to list them all.

Take a look at your ballots while you are voting and you will see that all Referendum Questions are non-binding.  If they are non-binding, why are they on the ballot?  Why waste our time and money if these questions are non-binding?  Any questions worthy of going on the ballot should ALWAYS be binding.

The problem is the Town Council does not want to lose control.  Can you imagine Councilors actually respecting the voice of the people?  Councilors, doing what the majority of their constituents want; would be a new and unusual concept in Lisbon.  Councilors do not understand their roles in local government.  Councilors, once elected, must do what is best for the community as a whole.

If you are not serious about knowing the answer, you should never ask the question.  If you take the time to ask the people what their feeling are; you should abide by the majority.  There should never be anything on the ballot that is not binding.

Call your Councilors and tell them to stop placing non-binding referendum questions on the ballot.

That means if you own guns and are forced to register them, you will go on a list. A list that can be used by blue-helmeted UN troops that could go door to door in the US seizing guns. There are millions of ex-military, Oath Keepers and American citizens in the US that own guns – most will not comply or submit meekly to this.  Obama does not constitutionally have the right to try and implement such a fascist scheme – he has not gone through Congress with this. The registry would be made available to foreign governments. Forty-four Democrat Senators support this communist move towards global control. It must not be allowed to happen. Once again, I agree with Donald Trump here. Look at what the DOJ did to Petraeus. If Clinton had been a Republican, she would have already donned an orange pant suit and would be lounging behind bars somewhere. I fervently pray that if a Republican is elected in 2016, that they make not only Hillary Clinton, but Barack Obama and his cronies pay for their crimes. A true conservative would do just that. Obama administration officials only began notifying local law enforcement officials of the release of violent criminal illegal immigrants within the last two weeks, according to Arizona law enforcement officials, who say they have for years been kept in the dark about the release of illegal immigrants back into local towns.

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) had been keeping secret its release of illegal immigrants with violent criminal records from local law enforcement for at least two years, denying for a time that this was taking place, law enforcement officials disclosed to the Washington Free Beacon.

The public disclosure of this practice, in which Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) frees criminal illegal immigrants back into U.S. communities, came to light earlier this week, when Arizona law enforcement was made aware that three illegal aliens with violent criminal records had been released back onto the streets.

Local law enforcement officials and members of Congress have expressed outrage over the practice and have petitioned DHS in recent days to end a policy they described as “catch and release.”

I don’t blame Donald Trump for reacting this way to a biased, skewed question like this from the Marxist media. You don’t have the right to use children as political weapons and human shields for a political agenda. Ted Cruz said he “absolutely” favors ending automatic citizenship to those born in the country, as guaranteed in the 14th amendment to the U.S. Constitution. And here is what Mark Levin says on the 14th Amendment:

MARK LEVIN: [T]he Supreme Court has never ruled that the children of illegal aliens are American citizens. So the Supreme Court has never ruled it, even if they did, it would be wrong. If it means what the proponents of birthright citizenship say, it would stop right there. All persons born or naturalized in the United States are citizens. Then it says “and, subject to the jurisdiction thereof.” Now you have some slip and fall lawyers, some phony constitutional lawyers, they have esquire after their name, they come on TV, they go all over the place. Jurisdiction means geography. Jurisdiction has nothing to do with geography. Zero. It had to do with political allegiance to the United States of America. How do we know it? Because they said it. And they also excluded everybody that the left and some of the Republicans want to include.

SAYS IT ALL!

WILL ANYONE HEAR THE WORDS ?

I know that I have been critical of Fern LaRochelle in the past but I believe he had an excellent point at Tuesday’s night Town Council meeting.  Mr. Rochelle recommended before the next Referendum on the School budget that both parties sit down and come to an agreement both sides can live with and use that agreement at the next Referendum. 

Chairman Pesce has stated many times that he does not believe that the Referendum question will ever pass when both parties are so far apart.  However, nothing is being done on either side to close the gap and as a result the Referendum has failed twice and will continue to fail unless the two sides come to a mutual agreement.  It must be an agreement that both sides can support and live with.

These continual failures are costing us, the taxpayers, a great deal of money.  If the only remaining point is whether or not bond proceeds can be used before a project is complete then this should be a moot point because the gym will be completed prior to the next election.  It is my understanding, by reading the Department of Education directives, the bond proceeds can be applied against debt services once the project has been completed.

It would be nice if both parties can come to an agreement and the community can put this unfortunate situation behind us.  I completely agree with Mr. LaRochelle it is time resolve this between both parties and come to people with an acceptable figure so we can move on.

It would be nice for both the School Department and the Town Council to reach an agreement prior to the next election.

LA Rotary to Welcome Devan Knight from the ME Red Claws on August 27

Lewiston – Members of the Lewiston-Auburn Rotary Club have invited Devan Knight from the Maine Red Claws, to be their guest speaker on Thursday, August 27.  Knight is a native of Lisbon Falls, Maine.  He returned to his home state from New York to pursue a career in professional sports. Knight first joined the Red Claws for the 2012-13 season, serving as a game operations intern, then serving as an intern in the group sales department for the Portland Sea Dogs. 

He returned to the Red Claws prior to the 2013-14 season to serve as an Inside Sales Representative before being named an Account Executive where he is responsible for the group and season ticket sales and sponsorship. He currently resides in Lisbon Falls and has recently finished his Bachelor’s degree in Sport Management at the University of Southern Maine.

Lewiston-Auburn Rotary members welcome guests every Thursday from noon to 1 p.m. at the Ramada Inn, Lewiston.

THE SAGA CONTINUES!

RECAP TOWN COUNCIL MEETING –AUGUST 18TH

This is a summary of what took place at the Tuesday night’s Town Council meeting.  Under Council Orders, Resolutions, and Ordinances: 

1.   Fireworks Ordinance (Second Reading) – The Council approved the second reading by a vote of 7-0.

2.  Fee Schedule – Fireworks Citation (First Reading) – The Council approved the first reading by a vote of 7-0.

3.  Camera –Fuel Pumps – The Council approved $7,542.55 from Custom Technology Group by a vote of 7-0 for camera’s for Public Works and the Transfer Station.

4.  Disposal of Loader Tires – The Council approved to sell these tires by a vote of 7-0.

5.  Acceptance of Fairbanks Road – The Council tabled this item pending more information.

6.  Bureau of Highway Safety-Buckle up – No excuses Enforcement Grant Award Acceptance – The Council approved the acceptance of $1,700.00 in grant money.

7.  Bureau of Highway Safety – Impaired Driving High Visibility Enforcement Grant Award Acceptance – The Council approved the acceptance of $3,750.00 in grant money.

8.  Tax Acquired Property – Write Off – The Council approved the write-off of $1,782.19 for 1 Whispering Pines by a vote of 7-0.

9.  Personal Property Tax – Write-Off – The Council approved the write-off of $15,818.06 by a vote of 7-0.  More Eldridge leftovers.

10.       School Payroll & Accounts Payable Policy Amendment – This amendment was approved by a vote of 7-0 by the Council.

11.        MEPers IUUAL Funds – The town received a check from the state in the amount of $15,971.07 which the Council approved the acceptance by a vote of 7-0.

12.       Brownfield Phase I – The Council granted approval to apply for the Brownfield Phase I for the Mill Street Mill property by a vote of 7-0.

13.       FAME Contract – The Council authorized the Town Manager to sign the Fifth Addendum to the Regional Economic Development Revolving Loan Program Disbursement and Pledge Agreement.

14.       Time Warner Franchise Fee – There was no decision reached on this issue.

15.       Medical Marijuana Ordinance Discussion – This was tabled by the Council.

16.       School Budget Validation Referendum Timeline & October /November Council Meeting Schedule – There were so many dates discussed I could not keep track.  It was left with contacting the School Department and determining a schedule from there.

17.       Schedule Workshops - This item was discussed and I cannot tell you the final verdict.  Please keep an eye on the town web site under Events.

Under Other Business – The Town Manager announced the receipt of a check from FEMMA in the amount of $25,000.00 plus.  The Finance Director provided the monthly financial report for both Revenue and Expenses.  Also, Department Heads provided the Council with departmental reports.  These will be available soon of the Town Web Site.

The Town Council went into Executive Session and upon returning there was no vote.
