Durham - Residents of
Durham and their surrounding communities are invited to attend the official
ribbon cutting ceremony at Durham Community School on Tuesday, August 24 from 10
a.m. to 2 p.m. The event will be
held rain or shine for the public dedication and tour of the new $22 million
elementary school located at 654 Hallowell Road in Durham.
Thanks to the support of
the local taxpayers in Durham funding a $2 million cost, $20 million approved
and funded by the state, the galvanized efforts of the Durham Building and
Planning Committees, along with the town’s Selectmen and the RSU No. 5 School
Board, the vision for a new elementary school in Durham is now a reality. The new state-of-the- art 85,000 square
foot green facility, located on an
eleven acre parcel, features geothermal heating and cooling, and a peaked roof
providing numerous academic learning opportunities for all students with the
overall design. Classrooms feature
interactive whiteboards, audio enhancements, and extended work stations equipped
with PowerPoint presentation projectors.
The library and the Internet equipped computer lab were designed to hold
classes with unlimited research opportunities. The attractive spacious, private campus
setting provides opportunities for outdoor learning experiences in science and
art content areas.
Dignitaries from around
the state have been invited to attend the event. Tours will be conducted by members of
the seventh and grades immediately following the official ribbon cutting by
lifetime Durham resident, Ernest F. Tebbets. Light refreshments will be
served.
Additional Open House
and tours will be conducted on Saturday, September 18 from 9 a.m. until 11
a.m.
