Win free door prizes every hour from 4:30 until 7 pm on Saturday, Feb. 27 at a MAINE STYX Field Hockey Spaghetti Dinner Fundraiser at Lisbon’s MTM Community Center located at 18 School Street.  This donation Benefit Dinner will also include a Silent Auction, and 50/50 Raffle. 

Kaitlyn Philbrick of Lisbon Falls is one of the MAINE STYX players raising money for travel expenses. MAINE STYX Field Hockey is an elite team that travels as far as Virginia to compete in tournaments and players are actively recruited by colleges. Kate will be performing stick skills she has learned throughout her field hockey training. If you have your own stick feel free to bring it, but several will be provided.

The PWS Greyhounds demonstrated undying determination in a rigorous away bout with the Hale-Dale Bulldogs ending 2-1.

 

Bulldog offense struck first with their only goal 15 minutes in the game. Battle for control continued until Greyhound Right Wing #12 DJ Douglass placed Lisbon's first goal to tie it up just before the end of the half. Lisbon returned after the break fired up and the solid defense of Stopper Captain #15 Jacob George and Sweeper #20 Seth Dyer kept the Bulldog offense from scoring while midfielders like #9 Christian Richter advanced the ball on Hall-Dale's goal. Finally it was Douglass on a breakaway who scored for the win of the well fought game.

The [4-0-1] Greyhounds next game will be at home versus Cony, Wednesday, October 14.

Christmas Trees Are Coming!

Lisbon - The Annual Lisbon High School and Mt. Ararat Christmas Tree Sale event is scheduled to start on Saturday, December 6!  Pictured (l-r) students Sean Bolduc and Ben Bishop ready the tree racks for the event.  Trees will be available on Saturday, December 6; Sunday, December 7; Saturday, December 13 and Sunday, December 14 from 9 a.m. until 6 p.m.  Students will be offering trees at two convenient locations at the Dairy Maid on Lisbon Street in Lisbon Falls and Wright-Pierce on Main Street in Topsham.  Fresh cut Balsam Firs will be sold for $35.  All proceeds benefit the Lisbon and Mt. Middle School Boys Soccer Results, 10/9/14, PWS vs Hall-Dale

The PWS Greyhounds demonstrated undying determination in a rigorous away bout with the Hale-Dale Bulldogs ending at 4-4. 

Bulldog offense struck early with the first goal by Alec Byron in the first minute of play. Greyhound Scott Smith #4 responded four minutes later feeding the ball to Striker Noah Austin #11 who fired in Lisbon first goal of the game. The half ended with two more Hale-Dale goals, Matt Albert and Avery Stewart each scoring. 

Lisbon returned after the break fired up, with strong plays from Jack Tibbets #8 and DJ Douglass #3 assisting two more goals by Austin three minutes after the whistle and then another with only seven minutes left of play to take the lead. 

Then with just under three minutes in the game Hall-Dale's Jared Roberts slipped a final goal in to end the well fought game in a tie. The [0-2-6] Greyhounds next game will be at home versus Cony, Thursday, October 16.

This Sunday------> Lisbon DARE vs. NE Patriots Alumni 092814‏

Members of the Lisbon Police All-Stars, along with members of the Lisbon High School D.A.R.E. Program, strike a pose with members of the New England Patriots alumni players before kick-off of their 2012 game in Lisbon.  The 2014 game is scheduled for 1 p.m. on Sunday, September 28 at the Thompson Field, Lisbon High School Campus, 2 Sugg Drive, Lisbon Falls.

Lisbon – The Lisbon Police All-Stars Football Team is set to play former New England Patriot players at 1 p.m. on Sunday, September 28 at Lisbon High School Campus, 2 Sugg Drive in Lisbon Falls.   This year’s event features Lisbon Police Officers, and Lisbon teachers and coaches from various Lisbon High School teams. The New England Patriots Team is made up of three time Super Bowl Champ running back/full back, Patrick Pass; Super Bowl Champ and “Snow Bowl Hero” tight-end Jermaine Wiggins; Super Bowl Champ defensive back Shawn Mayer; ’86 AFC Champ and Super Bowl player defensive end Garin Veris; line-back Vernon Crawford (who we brought back because he is really fun with the fans and players); and full-back Harold Shaw.  “We are awaiting confirmation of the ’96 AFC Champ and Super Bowl player, Max Lane”, shares Officer Renee Bernard.  Shaw and Pass will be conducting a clinic prior to the game.

The event will begin at 12 PM with a NFL Punt-Pass-Kick Program for Lisbon 3rd and 5^th grade football players, run by the Lisbon Recreation Department.  Lisbon fifth and sixth Grade football players will attend a clinic run by some of the Patriot Alumni. The flag football game will begin at 1PM on Thompson Field. At half time the activities will include autographs by your Lisbon Police All-Stars and the Patriots Alumni.  A great half time show will be put on by a combination of Lisbon High School Cheerleaders.   Some  seventh and eighth grade Philip W. Sugg Middle School students will join the two teams in the second half of the game.

All proceeds from the game support the Lisbon D.A.R.E. Programs and its many offerings throughout the year for children and adults to take advantage of drug free activities. Come and cheer on the local team and have a picture taken with some of New England’s greatest football players. The PWS Camp Kieve group will be offering refreshments and the Lisbon S.A. D. D. will be offering 50/50 tickets.  Ticket can still be purchased at the gate. Wear your favorite NFL Jersey, you don’t have to be a Patriots’ fan to cheer on the Lisbon Police All-Stars vs the Patriots’  Alumni.

The PWS Greyhounds suffered their second loss after a brutal 2-8 match on a windy Maranacook Black Bear field. The home team took an early lead putting 7 in goals before Lisbon's offense could respond with a goal of their own off the foot of Striker #6 Nico Soucy. The post half-time action was much closer with the Lisbon's defense led by Center Fullback #16 Jacob George holding the Black Bears to only one more goal while 'Hound Right Wing #3 DJ Douglass connected with Center Forward #11 Noah Austin for the final goal of the game. The [0-2]

 

Greyhounds will next face the Hale-Dale Bulldogs for their first home game on Tuesday, 

September 23.

Middle School Boys Soccer Results, 9/16/14, PWS vs Richmond‏

The PWS Greyhounds had victory snatched from them in an exhausting 2-5 season opener with the Richmond Bobcats. Greyhound Captain #11 Noah Austin was the first to score early in the game with teammate Left Wing #3 DJ Douglass putting in another with aggressive assistance from players like Right Wing #4 Scott Smith. It wasn't until late in the first half that #5 Danny Stewart put the Bobcats on the scoreboard. In the end it was Richmond who maintained pressure in the second half on a worn 'Hound defense with Richmond's #15 Cam Dunton and Danny Stewart each putting in 2 more goals past Lisbon's returning Keeper Levi Levesque who had already denied 11 Bobcat shots. Lisbon will play their next game away at Maranacook on Thursday, September 18.

Making the Right Choice for the Community - Part 3‏ (Track)

PART 3

The third bond is for building a Track at a cost of approximately $500,000.00 taxpayers’ dollars.    I do not want anyone to misunderstand me.  I am in favor of our kids having a place to do track especially since Lisbon has one of the best track teams in the state.  However, they cannot hold home meets in Lisbon because the current track does not meet safety standards.  This is a shame.

I am voting NO on a new track.  The reason is very simple.  If we have $500,000.00 to spend, I would rather see it spent on repairing our roads.  This to me is a higher priority to the community than a track.  A track is utilized by a smaller number of citizens, for a few months out of the year, and everyone uses our roads.  If we are going to be spending taxpayer’s money, then the whole community should receive the benefit and not just a few.

False Deluder is a very dedicated parent who wants only the best for his kids and I do not blame him or the other families involved with this movement.  But if you are spending taxpayer’s dollars it should be in the best interest of the whole community and not just a few. 

False Deluder wants to talk about “needs” but never mentioned if it was the needs of his kids or needs of the community.  Supporting your kids is important and should be the number one priority of every parent.  It is vital that the town get a new Public Works garage and the town needs a new gym but the town does not need a new Track. 

It is easy to see a “return on investment” with both the Public Works garage and the gym but there is absolutely no return on investment on a track especially when the money could be used to repair our roads.  Repairing our roads would save wear and tear on our vehicles as well as the town vehicles.

When you go to the polls in June, please vote what is best for the whole community and not just a few.

Lisbon – Lisbon’s Junior Athletic League (LJAL) is sponsoring a Spring Carnival on Saturday, May 17 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the Lisbon High School / Philip W. WILDCAT Doc to Show Resolve of Inner City 4th Grade Basketball Team

Norfolk, VA--Can basketball change kids’ lives? Ask the 4th graders who make up the WILDCATS, an inner city AAU basketball team, and the answer will be a resounding “yes.”

“These kids are excited about the prospect of reaching nationals and having their stories captured,” said Anthony Clary, director and producer of the WILDCAT documentary. “They’ve worked hard and have given 110%. The coaches have spent countless hours with a group of young boys who have a dream. Basketball has become an important positive tool used to keep them motivated in school and out of trouble.”

After closing out last season with a regional loss to a bitter out-of-state rival, the drive for redemption has never been more pressing. This year's team has a "serious business" approach, especially with so much on the line. It's amazing how much change can happen in 12 months--especially for kids who are determined to win.

“Basketball is changing these kids’ lives,” said Clary. “It’s teaching them hard work, determination, and character building. Most importantly, it’s showing them a world outside of the projects, where they often see much turmoil and dismay.”  

The 4th graders are legitimate national contenders this year. The road has and will be a difficult one, but the kids are determined. The director is turning to Indiegogo, a crowdfunding service, and basketball fans around the world for help capturing their journey on film.

“This is an inspirational story about a group of kids with a knack for overcoming incredible odds.  at home and on the court,” said Clary. “We know once people get introduced to the team, they’ll be interested in the story. Indiegogo is helping us tell it.”

The campaign launches Today, January 14 and the director is seeking $30,000 to supplement personal funds donated to the production for: filming, editing, crew expenses, etc.

“We want to show them its more to the world than the graffiti-filled walls surrounding their neighborhood,” said Clary.

Middle School Boys Soccer Results, 10/30/13, PWS vs Oak Hill‏

The PWS Greyhounds soundly defeated the Oak Hill Raiders on a chilly  
home field with a final score of 6-0.
 
Lisbon immediately took the field with a desire to not allow Oak Hill  
control of the field. 'Hound Offense headed by Halfback Captain Steven  
Martin (12) maintained control of the middle while feeding the strong  
shooting Striker Jonah Sautter (15) who put in the first goal 5  
minutes into the game. The rest of the first half would have both  
teams working to keep their attackers at bay.
Lisbon returned after the break with a second wind that Oak Hill's  
defense just couldn't match with Sautter scoring the the first of 3  
more goals within the first minute of play and a beautiful centering  
assist to Left Wing Noah Austin (8) who headed the ball in for another  
point. Lisbon's Right Wing Captain Dylan George (5) scored with a  
breakaway run, firing in the shot just inside the penalty box. All 3  
scoring Raiders from the previous match were effectively shut down by  
solid 'Hound defenders like Reece Rustad (14) and Jacob George  
(22 )who with the rest of the team earned their first shutout.
 
The [5-7] Greyhounds ended their season with a grand finale and would  
like to thank all the supporters they had throughout their thrilling  
season.

Middle School Boys Soccer Results, 10/28/13, PWS vs Gardiner‏

PW Sugg's Greyhounds triumphed over Gardiner's Falcons in an away game  
rematch ending 2-1.
 
The 'Hounds took control of the field from the first sound of the  
whistle and worked hard against a tough Falcon defense. The first goal  
was made when Halfback Ben LeClair (10) made a crisp pass to the sure  
footed Striker Jonah Sautter (15) who put Lisbon on the scoreboard  
just 2 minutes after play began. Sautter scored again after working  
through a tired opposing defense with a shot from just inside the 18  
to end the half at 2-0. After the break the Falcons again attempted to  
work the ball forward only to find 'Hounds like Halfback Captain  
Steven Martin (12) repeatedly denying their advances. It wasn't until  
the final 4 minutes of play when the frustrated Falcon offense finally  
found the back of their opponents net and ended the possibility for a  
shutout.
 
The Greyhounds final game of the season will be a rematch at home  
against Oak Hill on Wednesday, October 30.

Middle School Boys Soccer Results, 10/17/13, PWS vs Monmouth‏

The Lisbon Greyhounds were defeated by the formidable Monmouth  
Mustangs in a tough shutout match ending 0-4 on a chilly Monmouth  
afternoon.
 
The first half had the Greyhounds scrambling to penetrate the Mustang  
defense with little success. Monmouth, while having some difficulty  
was able to make the most of a few good opportunities and score.  
Monmouth's Midfielder Avery Pomerleau (8) was the thorn in Lisbon's  
side that scored the Mustangs first 3 goals with Forward Mason Dann  
(18) putting in 1 more just two minutes before the end of the half.  
Greyhounds rallied after the break to regain control of the field  
denying any additional goals from the opposition but aside from some  
excellent plays like those made by Wingmen Scott Smith (4), Noah  
Austin (8), and Striker Jonah Sautter (15), Lisbon just couldn't get  
close enough for many decent shots on goal.
 
The [3-7] Greyhounds will have their penultimate game away at Gardiner  
for a rematch with the Falcons on Monday, October 28.

Middle School Girls Soccer Results, 10/17/13, PWS vs Cony

The PWS Lady Greyhounds pulled out a close victory against the Cony Rams with a score of 2-1 on their home field.

Less than eight minutes into the first half, Amanda Storman dribbled the ball through the center of the defense and buried a shot in the lower right hand corner of the net to score the first goal for the 'Hounds. An aggressive Ram offense caused the PWS defense to get their game play in. Midway through the first half, after scuffle in front of the goal from a flip throw taken by Sydney Douglass, the Greyhounds got another goal on the scoreboard to the credit of the Ram defense with an own-goal. Kiley Merritt receives credit for the goal being the last 'Hound to get her foot on the ball.
PWS let one ball in their own net, but worked hard to hold their lead with help from a hustling and fierce Emma Houle and Carly Drischler. 

PWS [4-5] will meet Monmouth on Thursday, October 24th in attempt to earn their fifth win of the season.
