Dogs are not our whole life, but they make our lives whole.
- Roger Caras -
12,000 animals come through the doors of the Humane Society of Utah every year, all of which are in need of a new and loving home. Help has come in the form of an unlikely team member, a photographer who is working wonders at uniting man and his best friend. Guinnevere Shuster's "photo booth" style portraits do a much better job of capturing the personalities of the dogs than standard snapshots, resulting in over 90% of the dogs finding their forever homes. { read more }Be The Change

What Message Does It Send? Ex-Congressman Allen West Explodes During Fiery and Emotional Times Square Speech
Former Florida Congressman Allen West absolutely exploded in New York City’s Times Square on Wednesday. The Republican strongly criticized President Barack Obama’s leadership calling him a “weakling” and “charlatan.” “I want President Obama to know one thing,” West said. “You may say that you have done something that no one else has done. You know why no one else has done it? Because it’s a damn stupid thing you just did.”
He continued: “If people are upset because of what I’m saying, I really don’t care. Because I had a father that stood at World War II…I gave 22 years of my life to make sure that that great beacon of liberty, freedom and democracy continues to stand. And I have a nephew, I have friends that are still serving on the front lines — and my commitment is to the oath that I took on 31, July, 1982, to support and defend the Constitution of the United States of America against all enemies, foreign and domestic.”
Organizers estimated roughly 10,000 people attended the rally on Wednesday, according to the Associated Press.

A Young Elephant Is Coaxed Back Up Onto His Feet By Its Herd On A Busy Roadway
Two elephants coax a baby to its feet and off busy road. Video screen grab
In a touching display of caring and togetherness, a herd of elephants recently coaxed a baby elephant that had fallen in a busy roadway back to its feet and safely into the wilderness.
The dramatic scene played out recently in Kruger National Park in South Africa, with motorists watching from both directions in the road.
The footage, posted Tuesday to the Kruger Sightings YouTube channel, shows the calf put its head to the pavement, rest on its side, then lie flat against the pavement, drawing several herd members to its side.
Ultimately, though, it was the persistent efforts of a young adult and an older calf that prompted the little one to stand and walk off on its own.
“Absolutely fantastic how the herd protects and help this calf up to join them again,” reads a comment from the park. “Luckily the cars kept their distance.”
It remains unclear why the baby elephant chose to lie down. One of the commenters suggested it was merely tired, and pointed out that it did not “collapse,” as mentioned in the video description.
Another commenter agreed, stating that it looked like the type of tantrum that human babies often throw.
Whatever the case, it looked to be ok as it walked off, and the episode is just another example of how these intelligent pachyderms, which are known for the deep bonds they share with others, will stand up for one another.
In this case they seem to know what all humans are taught: It’s not safe to linger on a road full of cars.

LISBON’S HANNAH MARTEL FOSTERS PUPPIES
Lisbon – Hannah Martel, a sophomore at Lisbon High School, and a member of the school’s Community Service Club, devoted 52 hours of unconditional love and caring for eight puppies through the Greater Androscoggin Humane Society’s (GAHS) Foster Puppy Program.
Martel, an active Lisbon volunteer for her school, contacted GAHS, located at Strawberry Avenue in Lewiston, to participate in program as a personal community service project. In conjunction with the program, Martel networked with the local Girl Scout Troop to offer members the opportunity to earn their pet care badge. “It was an unforgettable experience, and I hope to do it again sometime,” shares Hannah. The Magic Bank Account
Imagine that you had won the following *PRIZE* in a contest:
Each morning your bank would deposit $86,400 in your private account
for your use.
However, this prize has rules.
The set of rules:
1. Everything that you didn't spend during
each day would be taken away from you.
2. You may not simply transfer money into
some other account.
3. You may only spend it.
4. Each morning upon awakening,
the bank opens your account with another
$86,400 for that day.
5. The bank can end the game without
warning; at any time it can say,
“Game Over!".
It can close the account and you will not
receive a new one.
What would you personally do?
You would buy anything and everything you
wanted right?
Not only for yourself, but for all the people
you love and care for.
Even for people you don't know, because you
couldn't possibly spend it all on yourself, right?
You would try to spend every penny,
and use it all, because you knew it would be
replenished in the morning, right?
ACTUALLY, This GAME is REAL ...
Shocked ???
YES!
Each of us is already a winner of this
*PRIZE*.
We just can't seem to see it.
THE PRIZE IS *TIME*
1. Each morning we awaken to receive
86,400 seconds as a gift of life.
2. And when we go to sleep at night,
any remaining time is not credited to us.
3. What we haven't used up that day is forever lost.
4. Yesterday is forever gone.
5. Each morning the account is refilled,
but the bank can dissolve your account at any time
without warning...
So, what will you do with your 86,400 seconds?
Those seconds are worth so much more than the
same amount in dollars.
Think about it and remember to enjoy every second
of your life, because time races by so much quicker
than you think.
So take care of yourself, be happy,
love deeply and enjoy life!
Here's wishing you a wonderful and beautiful day.
Start “spending”....

SOME PEOPLE DON'T GET THE PRIVILEGE".

Lisbon HS Alumni Contribute International Community Service!
Two Lisbon High School Alumni Serve in Haiti
Brian and Meghan (back row) pictured with children that take part in PID’s programming in Blanchard, Haiti.
By Brian Craig
Brian
and Meghan Craig are 2009 and 2011 graduates of Lisbon High School.
Brian received his bachelor’s degree in Christian Ministries and
Biblical Studies from Gordon College and is now pursuing his Masters of
Divinity at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary in Hamilton, MA. Meghan
is now pursuing her Bachelor’s degree in Dental Hygiene and a minor in
Sociology at the University of New England in Portland. While in high
school both were very involved in journalism and community service.
Early
on August 13th Meghan and I left to travel to Haiti. The organization
we were working with in Haiti was called Partner’s In Development (PID).
PID strives to help impoverished communities attain independence and
whole life improvement. PID’s work in Haiti started in 1990. PID has
various programs in Haiti that include a medical clinic, small business
training for Haitians, micro-finance loans so that families can afford a
new home, and they have a child sponsorship program. PID provides
material, financial and educational resources, which enable the poor to
construct and implement their own programs for development.
Our
stay in Haiti was spent in the village of Blanchard; which is situated
right next to the capital city of Port-au-Prince. The majority of our
time was spent serving and building relationships with the Haitian
people. During our trip our team stayed on the PID compound. Meghan and I
helped serve PID by being on the construction crew. While in Haiti we
painted, mixed cement and sifted sand from rock, and worked hard to
complete the new administration building on PID’s compound. When this
administration building is completed by the end of September PID will
have more room to expand their medical clinic and be able to serve more
people in the community. We worked extremely hard and accomplished so
much during our time in Haiti. The highlight of being on the
construction crew was that we had the opportunity to work directly
alongside Haitians and we all were able to learn so much from them.
In
addition to these service projects, we were able to build relationships
with the children in Blanchard. According to Meghan, “My favorite part
of the trip was interacting with the children of Haiti. I had the chance
to volunteer with the yoga program that PID offers for the children of
Blanchard, and it was such a powerful experience to interact with the
children. I learned so much from the children.” PID is a truly wonderful
place that gives these children safety and real opportunities for their
future through the child sponsorship program. On our breaks at the
worksite the children would run over and play with us and to see the
smiles on their faces as we played games with them was one of the most
rewarding parts of the trip. PID has over 400 children enrolled in their
sponsorship program and these donations are helping struggling families
all over Haiti. If you are interested in sponsoring a child in Haiti
you can visit http://www.pidonline.org for more information on how to
sign up.
Another powerful part of the trip
was touring Port-au-Prince and seeing the devastation that still remains
from the earthquake four years ago. There are still thousands of people
living in tents. Even though there is so much despair from this tragic
event, God is doing powerful things in this country. We encountered so
much hope in Haiti. Haitians are some of the hardest workers and they
are determined to rebuild and bring growth to this country.
Meghan
and I are so thankful to the community of Lisbon and our friends and
family for financially supporting this trip. We ask that you please keep
Haiti in your prayers because we saw so much hope but there is still a
lot to be done in Haiti. God taught us so much through this experience.
It was such a great blessing to work with a great organization like PID
and this fall when I am back at school I hope to continue to volunteer
with them in their local Ipswich, MA warehouse. This service learning
trip was truly a life changing experience!

PC Rules for Kickin' Ass (and often needed!)
Subject: : Rules for Kickin'
Ass
Rules for the Non-Military
Dear Civilians, we know that the current state of affairs in our great nation has many civilians up in arms and excited to join the military.
For those of you who can't join, you can still lend a hand. Here are a few of the areas where we would like your assistance:
1. The next time you see any adults talking (or wearing a hat) during the playing of the National Anthem - kick their ass.
2. When you witness, firsthand, someone burning the American Flag in protest - kick their ass.
3. Regardless of the rank they held while they served, pay the highest amount of respect to all veterans. If you see anyone doing otherwise, quietly pull them aside and explain how these veterans fought for the very freedom they bask in every second. Enlighten them on the many sacrifices these veterans made to make this Nation great. Then hold them down while a disabled veteran kicks their ass.
4. If you were never in the military,DO NOT pretend that you were. Wearing battle dress uniforms (BDUs) or Jungle Fatigues, telling others that you used to be 'Special Forces'. Collecting GI Joe memorabilia might have been okay when you were seven years old, but now it will only make you look stupid and get your ass kicked.
5. Next time you come across an Air Force member, do not ask them, 'Do you fly a jet?' Not everyone in the Air Force is a pilot. Such ignorance deserves an ass-kicking (children are exempt).
6. If you witness someone calling the Coast Guard 'non-military', inform them of their mistake - and kick their ass.
7. Next time Old Glory (the US flag) prances by during a parade, get on your damn feet and pay homage to her by placing your hand over your heart. This includes arrogant politicians who think someone may be offended. Quietly thank the military member or veteran lucky enough to be carrying her - of course, failure to do either of those could earn you a severe ass-kicking.
8. 'Your mama wears combat boots' never made sense to me - stop saying it! If she did, she would most likely be a vet and therefore would kick your ass!
9. 'Flyboy' (Air Force), 'Jarhead' (Marines), 'Grunt' (Army), 'Squid' (Navy), 'Puddle Jumpers'(Coast Guard), Bubblehead (Subsailor), etc., are terms of endearment we use describing each other.
Unless you are a service member or vet, you have not earned the right to use them. Using them could get your ass kicked.
10. Last, but not least, whether or not you become a member of the military, support our troops and their families. Every Thanksgiving and religious holiday that you enjoy with family and friends, please remember that there are literally thousands of soldiers, sailors, marines and airmen far from home wishing they could be with their families. Thank God for our military and the sacrifices they make every day. Without them, our country would get its ass kicked.
11. It's the Veteran, not the reporter, who has given us the freedom of the press.
It's the Veteran, not the poet, who has given us the freedom of speech.
It's the Veteran, not the community organizer, who gives us the freedom to demonstrate.
It's the Military who salutes the flag, who serves beneath the flag, and whose coffin is draped by the flag, who allows the protester to burn the flag.
Oh, AND ONE MORE:
12. If you ever see anyone singing the national anthem in Spanish -
KICK THEIR ASS.
ONE LAST THING:
If you got this email and didn't pass it on - guess what - you deserve to get your ass kicked!
I sent this to you, Not because I didn't want to get my ass kicked BUT BECAUSE YOU ARE A VERY, VERY SPECIAL PERSON AND I KNOW YOU WILL NOT BE OFFENDED AND ARE PROUD TO BE AN AMERICAN AND WILL FORWARD, ALSO.
THANK YOU
WE LIVE IN THE LAND OF THE FREE, ONLY BECAUSE OF THE BRAVE!
If you don't stand behind our troops, PLEASE feel free to stand in front of them!
