A Lisbon couple whose son was killed by a fatigued truck driver 22 years ago will continue their years of work advocating for safe highways as they head to Washington DC in the coming days for the National Truck Safety Conference.

Daphne and Steve Izer will join dozens of truck crash victims and their families at the Truck Safety Coalition’s biennial Sorrow to Strength conference Oct. 17-20. Victims and their families will meet with members of Congress and their staff to encourage lawmakers to reject anti-truck safety provisions under consideration on Capitol Hill, and to push for positive changes in truck safety.

Breitbart is reporting that deadly violence has continued to rage on in Chicago since Thursday night’s mass shooting that left 13 wounded, including a three-year old boy who was shot in the head. Between Friday and Sunday morning, there have been at least 20 more shot leaving five dead and 15 injured. Police shot one man wanted in connection with a burglary, as he allegedly tried to drive his car into a police car.

The ongoing epidemic has prompted Chicago media to question Governor Pat Quinn about the need for additional support for law enforcement. Quinn told reporters there have not been any specific conversations about the use of Illinois State Police or National Guard to assist Chicago Police however did say he is “open” to it.

“I think anyone who saw what happened in Cornell Park [Thursday’s mass shooting of 13] the other night was horrified by the violence. I live on the West Side of Chicago. It is an area that has been inflicted with violence, and we’ve got to protect the people,” Quinn said.

Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel was traveling around the country, appearing on the Late Show and fundraising for Newark, New Jersey Mayor Corey Booker during last week’s string of violence. After releasing a statement about the Thursday’s massacre, Emanuel received strong criticism from his residents on the Mayor’s official Facebook page.

One resident said, “Mayor Emanuel, we need you to focus on Chicago and get off the world stage.”

Emanuel and Chicago Police Superintendent Garry McCarthy have continued to iterate Chicago murders have declined from 2012’s bloodbath year by 21%, while both continuing to for push for more gun restrictions to curb the ongoing “gun violence.”

Deonta Howard, the three-year old boy shot on Thursday night is said to be “recovering,” but will need some plastic surgery.

One south side Chicago resident told Breitbart News, the mass shooting occurred on a basketball court, “right underneath one the police crime monitor cameras.” He asked, “why haven’t the police released any of that footage, so people can help try to find the shooters?”

Chicago Police have not announced any arrests in that shooting.

WASHINGTON, March 5 (Reuters) - The U.S. Transportation Security Administration said on Tuesday that travelers can soon bring small pocket knives on board airplanes for the first time since the Sept. 11 attacks, sparking outrage from flight attendants who said the decision would endanger passengers and crew.

The TSA said that effective April 25, it would allow knives with blades that are 2.36 inches (6 cm) or less in length and less than 1/2 inch (1-1/4 cm) wide. Other items that will be allowed on board again as part of a passenger's carry-on luggage include billiard cues, ski poles, hockey sticks and lacrosse sticks.

Items that had been prohibited like razors, box cutters or knives with a fixed blade are still not allowed on board.

TSA spokesman David Castelveter said the decision was made to bring U.S. regulations more in line with International Civil Aviation Organization standards and would also help provide a better experience for travelers.

"This is part of an overall Risk-Based Security approach, which allows Transportation Security officers to better focus their efforts on finding higher-threat items such as explosives," he said.

Police to return to scene Wednesday

LISBON —  Maine State Police say the skeletal remains found early this afternoon in Lisbon Center may be those of 22-year-old Christiana Fesmire of Lewiston, who has been missing since July 2011. 
According to Steve McCausland, spokesman for the Maine Department of Public Safety, the remains were found around 1 p.m. near the intersection of Wagg and Ferry roads on a trail about 200 feet off the road. Lewiston and Lisbon police are on scene with State Police and are involved in the recovery. According to a news release issued by McCausland, the scene will be secured for the night and recovery efforts will continue Wednesday morning.
McCausland said the remains will be transported to the state medical examiner’s office, where work will begin to establish positive identification. 

Buddy Robinson, 30, of Lewiston, was convicted of Fesmire’s murder on Nov. 16. Police believe Robinson drowned Fesmire after she hit her head on the bathtub while the two were arguing in her Highland Avenue apartment July 1, then wrapped her body in a blanket and dumped her in a swamp, according to court records

There is no way to really describe how great it is to have Absolute Rights at the Republican National Convention for the first time in its history.
We have worked very hard and are very proud to be able to bring you the coverage you want to see from the convention.

One of the first things that no one can deny is different about this Tampa is its security.
Everywhere that you look, on almost every corner, is a sign that this town is under serious ‘lock and key.’  It’s almost as if the town is being run by martial law.

On May 1, 2012 David T. Brooks presented his own feelings about the future of the Lisbon Communications Center. The entire presentation dealt with what Brooks wanted the councilors to know. But there were several simple facts which came out of this discussion.

1. Brooks has been working on this proposal for eight years. In this eight year period, Brooks never gave any thought to what would happen if the Lisbon Communications Center were to be shut down. Instead of considering all aspects of the situation and coming up with a contingency plan for each scenario; he chooses to ignore the possibility of anyone not approving his proposal. This was very apparent by Brooks' continual repeating there is “NO PLAN”. 
   
   
    There is no plan because Brooks has never considered anything else. It is the Chief of Police’s responsibility to provide a contingency plan for each phase of his operation not the County Commissioners.
   
   
2. The most simplistic action of all communications was not addressed by Brooks. The utilization of cell phones to communicate between Lisbon Departments was never considered by Brooks. 
   
   
3. Utilizing “thumb drives” to update IMC, prepare logs or record data was never considered.
   
   
4. Utilizing Duty Officers and Sergeants to check IMC, NCIC and checks and interstate inquiries were never considered. 
   
   
5. The first responder on the scene could assess the situation and utilizing a preloaded cell phone call for any additional assistance.

I commend Councilor Gina Mason for seeing right though Brooks' presentation. Councilor Mason asked how come the town could not utilize cell phones as a means of communications since we already are paying for them. Councilor Mason asked Chief Brooks numerous questions he was not prepared to answer. Councilor Mason had the courage to ask why he has not looked at alternative solutions.

It would appear that, it is Brooks’ way or the highway because Brooks has no contingency plans in place for any of the different aspects of the Police Department.  So for the past eight years, he is only concerned with what is best for Brooks and not this community. The dispatch situation affects all of the citizens of Lisbon because it deals with the response time in an emergency. In an emergency every second counts in determining life or death. The country has instituted a program called 911 in order to expedite the process in hopes of saving lives. 

 Our County Commissioners are trying to do the same by consolidating all the communications centers and eliminating redundancy within the process. A 911 emergency phone call goes to either Lewiston/Auburn 911 if received by land line or to the Maine State Police Barracks in Gray if received by cell phone. These calls are then relayed to the Lisbon Communications Center to dispatch Police, Fire, and Emergency Medical Services (EMS).

The County Commissioners are trying to improve this process by eliminating the middle step. By dispatching Police, Fire and EMS from the point the call is received will eliminate having to call the Lisbon Communications Center and speed up the response time. In an emergency, time is critical and every minute/second can make the difference between life or death. Streamlining the process and saving lives should be the number one priority of everyone.

Why would you NOT want to speed up the process in an attempt to save as many lives as possible?
