Black Rifle Coffee Company has vowed to hire 10,000 veterans just days after Starbucks Coffee vowed to hire 10,000 refugees. Starbucks CEO Howard Shultz reacted to President Trumps temporary travel ban from refugees from seven foreign nations by pledging to hire 10,000 refugees.
Everyone loves tiny houses these days, and everyone hates that there are so many homeless people in our country who have served to defend it in the military. Now, a group in Missouri is taking this love/hate dynamic and putting together an incredible idea.
An organization called Veterans Community project has built an entire village of tiny houses to provide homes for homeless veterans. This idea is both cost effective and empowering, and has potential to be replicated from coast to coast. Check out their story here.
Indeed this is a very righteous way to focus tiny homes on people who truly need them, instead of promoting the trendy, yuppie movement of the whole tiny house living.
President-elect Donald Trump hasn’t tapped a VA Secretary yet, but yesterday his transition team announced plans for VA reform will include allowing veterans to seek private healthcare options. From the Wall Street Journal:
Mr. Trump is considering changing the department to allow some veterans to bypass the VA heath-care system completely and get care exclusively from private-sector hospitals and clinics, the official said. It is an option that could give veterans full choice over their health care, but which many veterans groups argue is the first step toward privatization and one that will reduce the quality of health care over the long term.
While on his deathbed, former Marine Dr. Larry Lindsey gave an extremely powerful message to our nation’s president-elect, that speaks volumes to the respect that our soldiers have for our new president. Larry stayed alive just long enough to see Donald Trump elected and just before he passed, the past weekend, he had his family videotape him and his final words on Americans.

VA administrators made the announcement Tuesday afternoon at a press conference.Nearly 600 veterans who were being treated at a VA facility in Wisconsin may have been infected with several types of diseases due to violations of infection control protocol.
Some of those diseases include HIV, Hepatitis B and Hepatitis C. The facility, in Tomah, Wisconsin, is in the process of notifying 592 veterans that they may have become infected,.

. Simcakoski called Kind’s Washington, D.C. office Nov. 8, 2013, and spoke for eight minutes. Minutes before that, he had called the VA police. Simcakoski died at the hospital in August, 2014.

The Army moved to retain Sgt. 1st Class Charles Martland after initially planning to kick him out of the service for physically confronting an Afghan Local police commander in 2011 for allegedly raping a young boy repeatedly. The decision, first reported by Fox News and confirmed to the Washington Free Beacon by a spokesman for the Army, was made after lawmakers and legal activists led charges to advocate for Martland’s reinstatement.
A Russian fighter jet flew dangerously close to a U.S. RC-135 reconnaissance aircraft on Thursday in the latest military provocation by Moscow over the Baltic Sea, the U.S. European Command said Saturday.
“On April 14, a U.S. Air Force RC-135 aircraft flying a routine route in international airspace over the Baltic Sea was intercepted by a Russian Su-27 in an unsafe and unprofessional manner,” said Navy Capt. Danny Hernandez.
“This intercept comes shortly after the unsafe Russian encounters with USS Donald Cook,” he added. “There have been repeated incidents over the last year where Russian military aircraft have come close enough to other air and sea traffic to raise serious safety concerns, and we are very concerned with any such behavior.”
