A great answer by someone who is
obviously a great teacher
FOOD FOR THOUGHT! What Do Teachers Make? The dinner guests were sitting around the table discussing life. One man, a CEO, decided to explain the problem with education. He argued, "What's a kid going to learn from someone who decided his best option in life was to become a teacher?" To stress his point he said to another guest; "You're a teacher, Bonnie. Be honest. What do you make?" Bonnie, who had a reputation for honesty and frankness replied, "You want to know what I make? (She paused for a second, then began...) "Well, I make kids work harder than they ever thought they could. I make a C+ feel like the Congressional Medal of Honor winner. I make kids sit through 40 minutes of class time when their parents can't make them sit for 5 without an I Pod, Game Cube or movie rental. You want to know what I make? (She paused again and looked at each and every person at the table) I make kids wonder. I make them question. I make them apologize and mean it. I make them have respect and take responsibility for their actions. I teach them to write and then I make them write. Keyboarding isn't everything. I make them read, read, read. I make them show all their work in math. They use their God given brain, not the man-made calculator. I make my students from other countries learn everything they need to know about English while preserving their unique cultural identity. I make my classroom a place where all my students feel safe. I make my students stand, placing their hand over their heart to say the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag, One Nation Under God, because we live in the United States of America a nation under God. A nation from it's beginning has had the Hand of God upon it. Finally,
I make them understand that if they use the gifts
they were given, work hard, and follow their hearts, they can
succeed in life.
(Bonnie paused one last time and then continued.) Then, when people try to judge me by what I make, with me knowing money isn't everything, I can hold my head up high and pay no attention because they are ignorant." ..
You want to know what I
make?
I MAKE A DIFFERENCE. What do you make Mr. CEO?" His jaw dropped, he went silent. THIS IS WORTH SENDING TO EVERY TEACHER, EVERY CEO, EVERY PERSON YOU KNOW. Even all your personal teachers like mothers, fathers, brothers, sisters, coaches and your spiritual leaders/teachers-Pastors/Priests/Clergy. |

Goldy oldie!!
'Someone asked the other day, 'What was your favorite fast food when you were growing up?' 'We didn't have fast food when I was growing up,' I informed him. 'All the food was slow.'
'C'mon, seriously. Where did you eat?'
'It was a place called 'at home,'' I explained. ! 'Mom cooked every day and when Dad got home from work, we sat down together at the dining room table, and if I didn't like what she put on my plate I was allowed to sit there until I did like it.'
By this time, the kid was laughing so hard I was afraid he was going to suffer serious internal damage, so I didn't tell him the part about how I had to have permission to leave the table. But here are some other things I would have told him about my childhood if I figured his system could have handled it :
Some parents NEVER! owned their own house, wore Levis, set foot on a golf course, traveled out of the country or had a credit card. In their later years they had something called a revolving charge card. The card was good only at Sears Roebuck. Or maybe it was Sears & Roebuck. Either way, there is no Roebuck anymore. Maybe he died.
My parents never drove me to soccer practice. This was mostly because we never had heard of soccer. I had a bicycle that weighed probably 50 pounds, and only had one speed, (slow). We didn't have a television in our house until I was 5. It was, of course, black and white,
I was 13 before I tasted my first pizza, it was called 'pizza pie.' When I bit into it, I burned the roof of my mouth and the cheese slid off, swung down, plastered itself against my chin and burned that, too. It's still the best pizza I ever had.
We didn't have a car until I was 4. It was an old black Dodge.
I never had a telephone in my room. The only phone in the house was in the living room and it was on a party line. Before you could dial, you had to listen and make sure some people you didn't know weren't already using the line.
Pizzas were not delivered to our home. But milk
was.
All newspapers were delivered by boys and all boys delivered
newspapers my brother delivered a newspaper, six days a week. It
cost 7 cents a paper, of which he got to keep 2
cents. He had to get up
at 6
am every morning. On
Saturday, he had to collect the 42 cents from his customers. His
favorite customers were the ones who gave him 50 cents and told him
to keep the change. His least favorite customers were the ones who
seemed to never be home on collection
day.
Movie stars kissed with their mouths shut. At least,
they did in the movies. Touching someone else's tongue with yours was called French kissing and they
didn't do that in movies. I don't know what they did in French
movies. French movies were dirty and we weren't allowed to see
them
If you grew up in a generation before there was fast food, you may want to share some of these memories with your children or grandchildren. Just don't blame me if they bust a gut laughing.
Growing up isn't what it used to be, is it?

MEMORIES from a friend : My Dad is cleaning out my grandmother's house (she died in December) and he brought me an old Royal Crown Cola bottle. In the bottle top was a stopper with a bunch of holes in it. I knew immediately what it was, but my daughter had no idea. She thought they had tried to make it a salt shaker or something. I knew it as the bottle that sat on the end of the ironing board to 'sprinkle' clothes with because we didn't have steam irons. Man, I am old.

The Lisbon Junior Athletic League, a
non-profit, is beginning to bring the fields at the old Lisbon Elementary
School back to a quality playing complex for the youth of Lisbon.
Assisting in this effort are the students at Lewiston
Regional Technical Center program, who are constructing
two dugouts on the right field at the old Lisbon Elementary School
site as part of their construction studies. Leading this charge is
instructor Jason Merritt of LRTC.. It's important to note that
these students are building the entire project with hand tools over the
last several weeks.
Stay tuned for another story to follow.

Principal Ramich. How does he feel about the project? Principal
Ramich shared his thoughts as to whether or not this fundraiser will be a
success. “I am sure it will be a success because there are lots of

It Is Your Freedom That Is At Stake.
Every few days I run into hunters
stopping in for a cup of hot coffee at Bootleggers in the center of Lisbon
village. I have not met one of these men yet, who were not true sportsmen. As
one gentleman told me the other day, he was within a few feet of a Bobcat while
deer hunting in Sabattus, but did not shoot, because he didn't kill anything he
couldn't eat. That is the mark of a true sportsman.
I wonder just how many of these hunters I speak
with know anything at all about U. S. House Bill HR45, introduced on January 6,
2009, shortly before the new president was sworn into office, and filed
without any other
congressional sponsor of the bill by Bobby Lee Rush,
congressman from president Obama's old first congressional district on Chicago's
south side.
HR45 is currently being held in the House
judiciary committee and will probably not come out of committee until
after the Obama Care bill is finalized. HR45 along with HR1, sponsored by
Congressman David Obey, (D) of Wisconsin, and already enacted into law, will
serve notice to all sportsmen and the the public in general who owns any kind of
gun, what Attorney General Eric Holder under the direction of president Obama
has in store for you.
HR45, if enacted into law, would require all
owners of firearms to register for a federal firearms license. (More under the
table taxes!) The bill would make it a criminal act not to register as an
owner of a firearm, and subject to criminal penalty. This would inevitably lead
to a automatic search and seizure public policy, with or without a home owners
consent. If this does not alarm you that you are about to lose your rights under
the second amendment of the U. S. constitution, which was recently upheld by the
U. S. Supreme Court, then try on for size what sections 13101 through 13434 of
HR1, which is already law, has to offer you.
These sections of HR1 sets up the infrastructure
to computerize all medical
records of ALL Americans in a government coordinated database,
which will contain psychiatric treatment as well. These records will include
drugs you may now be taking. Why is this worrisome? Under the NICS Improvement
Act, 150,000 U. S. veterans have already been unfairly stripped of their right
to have firearms by the Obama administration. Those rights were removed
without a court hearing. Hence ... eventually, we all will be susceptible
to this kind tactic.
We have already witnessed what kind of public
regard Eric Holder and the Obama administration have for the American voter. If
you doubt it ..... view the following short video clips:
"Security
Patrols" to enforce who is allowed to vote.
Black
Panthers attack voters at Philadelphia poll stations
Obama Missouri "Truth Squads"
Notice ... in none of these video clips was a gun
necessary to do the dirty work shown!
What else does Attorney General Eric Holder, under
president Obama's direction have in store for us?
As you have read in the news, in the U. S.
District Court for the Southern District of New York, five of the world's most
hated terrorists, Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, Walid Muhammad Salih Mubarek bin
Attash, Ramzi bin al-Shibh, Ali Abdul-Aziz Ali and Mustafa Ahmed al-Hawsawi, all
of whom were involved in the 9/11 plot that killed over 3000 people. Khalid
Sheikh Mohammed, the master mind of the plot has already confessed back in 2003
to being the key terrorist.
All of these murderous thugs will be tried as a U.
S. citizen, even though none have
ever set a foot on U. S. soil until they are brought here from their Guantanamo
Bay military detention. Now ... listen up .. carefully .... no CIA agent has
ever testified in a civilian court of law about their overseas activity. Under
an oath they take when becoming CIA agents, they cannot do so. The defense
lawyers of these thugs, being paid by you, the American tax payer, will want the
agents who got the confessions, for instance, from Mohammend, to testify as to
how they obtained that information, and exactly what secret information was obtained.
As you can see ....
Attorney General Eric Holder, under the watchful eye of Barack Hussein Obama,
has put in place the UNBELIEVABLE situation that these murderous terrorist may
WALK out of a U. S. courtroom ... FREE MEN because of lack of
evidence.
As a concerned American .... keep your eye on
every move Eric Holder makes! Regardless of your party affiliation or political
persuasion, it is your freedom
that is at stake.

Shop For Christmas Where It Counts For More
The following submitted by J.J.
Sears - Christmas shopping has already started
I know I needed this reminder since Sears isn't always my first choice. Amazing when you think of how long the war has lasted and they haven't withdrawn from their commitment. Could we each buy at least one thing at Sears this year?
How does Sears treat its employees who are called up for military duty? By law, they are required to hold their jobs open and available, but nothing more. Usually, people take a big pay cut and lose benefits as a result of being called up.
Sears is voluntarily paying the difference in salaries and maintaining all benefits, including medical insurance and bonus programs, for all called up reservist employees for up to two years.
I submit that Sears is an exemplary corporate citizen and should be recognized for its contribution. I suggest we all shop at Sears, and be sure to find a manager to tell them why we are there so the company gets the positive reinforcement it well deserves.
Pass it on.
Decided to check this before I sent it forward. So I sent the following e-mail to the Sears Customer Service Department:
I received this e-mail and I would like to know if it is true. If it is, the Internet may have just become one very good source of advertisement for your company! . I know I would go out of my way to buy products from Sears instead of another store for a like item, even if it's cheaper at that store.
This is their answer to my e-mail:
Dear Customer:
Thank you for contacting Sears. The information is factual. We appreciate your positive feedback.
Sears regards service to our country as one of greatest sacrifices our young men and women can make. We are happy to do our part to lessen the burden they bear at this time.

Please pass this on to all your friends. Sears needs to be recognized for this outstanding contribution and we need to show them as Americans, we do appreciate what they are doing for our military!!!

The Wreaths Across America Story
This 2009 addition to the Wreaths Across America story shares how the tradition of placing wreaths to honor our veterans during the holidays has grown into a national movement, with over 350 participating locations, thousands of volunteers, and 105,000+ wreaths placed in 2008 to Remember, Honor, and Teach our children the value of freedom, of service and sacrifices made by our veterans and their families.

December 12, 2009 – national Wreaths Across America event to honor veterans
at Arlington National Cemetery and over 400 participating locations nationwide.
Beginning on Sunday December 6th, over 150,000 donated Christmas Wreaths
from the State of Maine will begin their journey to over 400 state and national
veterans cemeteries all across the Country as part of the annual Wreaths Across
America project.
Escorted by the Patriot Guard Riders and other support groups, the wreaths will
make their 18th annual trek to Arlington National Cemetery, where they will make
their eventual home adorning the graves of our veterans – a solemn tribute to
those who serve and those who made the ultimate sacrifice.
The Wreaths Across America™ story began over 18 years ago when the
Worcester Wreath Company from Harrington, Maine initiated a tradition of
donating and placing wreaths on the headstones of our Nation’s fallen heroes at
Arlington National Cemetery. Recognition of the service and sacrifice of our
veterans, and their families, is especially poignant during the traditional holiday
season.
Worcester Wreath Company continues to be a major supporter of the project,
donating over 25,000 total wreaths in 2008. Over 100,000 wreaths will be
sponsored by individuals, businesses, and groups from communities Nation-wide.
Wreaths will be placed in all 50 states from Maine to Alaska and Hawaii, at
several locations is Iraq, and at 24 national cemeteries on foreign soil.
For people who wish to support the project, wreath sponsorships are available
online. A complete list of participating locations is available on the website at

Lisbon Holiday Fair 12/5
Article and Photo by Meghan Craig
Lisbon High School
Student Media Reporter
Lisbon - The Lisbon Athletic Booster is holding a Holiday Fair on Saturday December 5th at the High School from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. Each year the Boosters hold a fair to raise funds to assist the student athletes in Lisbon. “The crafters’ reservation for the holiday fair are coming along,” according to chairperson, Kathi Yergin. “The Fair was very low on the number of crafters last year due to the economy. Each year crafters some new crafters contact me right before the event, which is great.
