Lisbon- On Friday April 17th members of the S.A.D.D. (Students Against Destructive Decisions ) at Lisbon High School sponsored a Healthy Decisions Day. The point of Healthy Decisions Day was to show the students the consequences of making bad decisions and to show them they can have a fun time without drugs or alcohol. The members of S.A.D.D. planned the day with help of adult coordinators of the group, Pauline Mathieu, Officer Renee Bernard, and Detective Bernie McAllister. S.A.D.D. meets twice a month at LHS and several nights at the police department throughout the school year to plan this event.

Throughout the day, there were many different healthy activities for the students including Wii sports, seat belt safety demonstration, K-9 demonstration, rock climbing, kickball . A mock car crash followed the activities of the day. The reenactment which featured what could happen by making an unhealthy decision of drinking and driving. All Lisbon emergency departments participated in the ”crash.” Actors of the crash scene were members of the S.A.D.D. group.

An assembly in the LHS gym was presented to the entire student body as the final component of the program. The parent’s of one of the ”crash” members shared a very moving speech addressing what it was going to be like with out her daughter and all the things they were both going to miss.

The goal of the student group was to provide education and scenarios of the consequences of not making the right decisions. The event marks the first time in a few years the group has sponsored a Healthy Decisions Day. Public service announcements are also provided by students through the S.A.D.D. program.
