Hello LR,
As I attended the Town Council Public Hearing last Tuesday I heard a number of remarks from people feeling frustrated by their inability to access certain information regarding budget and changes due to people's lack of Internet access and even computer skills to access the Internet. This is a very valid reason for frustration in an age when computers are starting to take over the tasks of information sharing, communication, and research.
I wanted to take this opportunity to let the community know about the computer labs that the Adult Education in Lisbon provides to its citizens. We have two locations from which we operate; one is the high school after the day students have been dismissed and the other is the old LES building at 19 Gartley Street. At both of these locations we have labs with 15+ computers with full Internet access.
In the event that a person is not confident in their computer skills they are welcome to enroll in any of our Computer Applications courses that we offer regularly. We offer a Computer Basics course for people with limited knowledge and even hold sessions for people that are 50+ who feel that being in a class with younger, more technology-savvy students is daunting.
Frequently we offer courses in more specific computer disciplines such as Microsoft Office or the programs within the suite in particular such as Word or Excel. The Internet is a growing world of information and learning, and it is becoming more and more important for people to have access to these opportunities.
I encourage Lisbon and Lisbon Falls citizens to visit our website at http://lisbon.maineadulted.org to have a look at our course offerings to see if there is something that piques your interest! Thank you so much and I'm looking forward to meeting more Lisbon community members and seeing what Lisbon Adult & Community Education can do to bring all community endeavors full circle.
