How Will The Closing Of BNAS Affect Lisbon?

Who said it was a Box?

Submitted by: Todd Comber

At a time in our society when we are at war, the closing of the Brunswick Naval Air Station, (scheduled for 2011), just doesn't make a whole lot of 'Defensive' sense. But then it doesn't make any sense that at 18 years of age we can send our children off to war and possibly die, and they have to be 21 to 'legally' drink an alcoholic beverage. Remember, you voted for those who passed that one and these, mandatory seat belts, headlights on w/Wipers etc.

Good grief. Why do we have to regulate everything? Can't we be responsible for ourselves?
I think that until a person is of legal age we do need to protect them from certain problems that can be avoided, ie. child restraint seats, keeping kids buckled up and so on.

But getting back to my point. Lisbon will be affected severely by the effects of BNAS leaving.

Maine once was a powerhouse in strategic defense.

Over time, (at least my time period), we watched, the high & mighty Air Force pull out of Limestone, technology advance to keep us more safe,
ie. stealth technology, and we viewed the economic uncertainties unravel and realign themselves. And I am talking about the other Maine, you know North of Augusta.

Generations of families reeducated themselves to be productive in an ever changing work climate if they wanted to stay, but most left as they were in the military.
Still some are waiting for the government bailout.

This area of Maine will be no different. It will readjust and people will be employed in 'other' technology based professions.

But What about the uncertainty that seems to be talked about at every coffee shop, mom & pop store, country diner, etc. With All the, Health Care, Birth Certificate, Bailouts, Clunking Cash, (and I say that because that is what the printing presses in D.C. are starting to sound like) issues Something doesn't seem right.

Take the aspect of the 'Sub Hunters' leaving Brunswick and Russian Subs patrolling the East Coast. What? Surprised? You ought to be.
Main stream media isn't interested in bringing it to you.
Read the following it happened over a week ago.

"Russian Subs Patrolling Off East Coast of U.S.

WASHINGTON — A pair of nuclear-powered Russian attack submarines has been patrolling off the eastern seaboard of the United States in recent days, a rare mission that has raised concerns inside the Pentagon and intelligence agencies about a more assertive stance by the Russian military.

The episode has echoes of the cold war era, when the United States and the Soviet Union regularly parked submarines off each other’s coasts to steal military secrets, track the movements of their underwater fleets — and be poised for war. " Read more....

So, is it just a coincidence? Who Knows?

Will we be more safe with our trust in technology, ie. Unmanned Aerial Vehicles, patrolling the waters looking for those that want to bring harm to us? That technology is great!

I certainly am hoping so.

As I see it, we are in a crucial point in the history of our country. The ink is still wet. Each day affords another page to be written. Now you ask what is my point?

Getting back to Lisbon. There is no way possible for the citizens of this community that have not left already, to NOT be affected with the base closing. Less people around to support businesses, pay taxes will mean either less services or higher taxes for the community. And quite possibly BOTH.

JUST look at the great Example set by the State and Federal Governments.

So why don't we start preparing now by curtailing needless spending?

Oh, and about the box thing,,, The World Is Round. O!!!!!
