D. Fitzgerald Responce to C.C. Bondermann‏

No, I have not read Palos's Health Care bill. Nor have I read the original
bill, or subsequent bills after changes, additions, deletions.
Unfortunately, when a bill is submitted to Congress, normally the end result
does not even remotely resemble the original. Plus most Senators and
Representatives, Republicans and Democrats alike, have to add their little
bit of Pork. All I do know is that, unfortunately, we do need a National
Health Care System. What we have now is not working. Our government is not
working, as it should, as it was intended. In the beginning, it was
"Government of the People, By the People, and For the People". Can you in
truth say that is the way our Government now works. Our Senators and
Representatives, present and retired, who can afford to pay for their own
health care, enjoy the best health care, all curtsey of the taxpayers who
elected them into office, to represent them and work for them. They give
themselves pay increases while saying the government cannot afford to give
an increase in Social Security benefits. And why is Social Security running
our of money. Would it be because the government has raided it, time and
time again.
Our children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren will also be paying for
GO.W. Bush's war. For G.W. Bush's tax benefits to 'big oil' and to the first
lenders bailout's. That bothers me and does any frivolous spending. I was
born in 1931. I am a depression baby. I lived through World War One, when
our motto was "wear it out, use it up, make it do, or do without". And that
has been my way of life. So when you say that I do not care. You bet that I
care; about our national debt, about those homeless because facilities for
the mentally deficient have been closed due to lack of funding. A Boy Scout
Camp may be closing due to lack of funds to keep it open, yet we just
approved a 1.2 Million Dollar Grant, plus $30,200.00 local bond to extend a
trail for 2 miles. And that makes sense?

I was speaking with someone who made a living trucking. He said that
truckers pay the highest Excise Tax for their vehicles and use more gas per
mile; that translates to paying more gas tax. Gas taxes that are supposed to
pay for road maintenance and repairs. Yet truckers are not permitted to use
certain roads and highways, plus some roads in the spring, thereby
curtailing their income. And the government thinks this is fair? Farmers in
the mid-west and south were and some perhaps even now, are paid to NOT grow
crops. But does our government pay our truckers to NOT drive? to NOT use
roads they pay dearly to keep maintained and repaired? Does our government
pay our fishermen and women to NOT fish? C. C. Bondermann says I do not care
how the Obama administration is marching to the beat of a different drummer.
I did not vote for Obama. I am a registered Democrat who has voted time and
time again for both Senators Collins and Snowe. I have even voted
independent. I am proud to be an independent-minded Mainer. I am not always
right. But I am not always wrong either. I do not know Pelosi's wealth, nor
do know the wealth of anyone in Congress. Their wealth should not even come
into play when making decisions for the good of our Country and it's people.
Unfortunately, those who make the decisions and the very wealthy forget
there are just regular people, people like you and I, struggling to make a
living and to live day by day. Those who are fortunate to have good jobs
with annual pay increases and great health benefits forget tend to forget
about those who do not.
And I DID read all of your letter but so as to not bore the public, am
responding to just a part of it.
