Lisbon – On
Thursday, November 5, Lisbon’s Community Resource Coordinator, Monica
Millhime, welcomed members of the Topsham Grange during a Words for Thirds
assembly at Lisbon Community School. Master of the Topsham Grange, Mike
Labbe, along with Mert Ricker, presented LCS third grade teachers Ann Clayton,
John Espejo, Deb Furrow, Heather Goddu and Garrett Goldsmith and all their
students with their own personal dictionary. The Dictionary Project began
in 1992 in Savannah Georgia by the late Annie Plummer. Over the
years, the program has expanded to communities all over the United
States. “The goal of the program is to improve reading ability and
comprehension,” according to Grange members. This year marks the
third year Topsham Grange partnered with the school to sponsor The Words for
Thirds. “We are extremely fortunate with the partnerships
throughout Lisbon, and surrounding communities, who support our students and
their teachers with a number of events and programs,” shares Millhime.
