Lisbon - If you know Philip W. Sugg Middle School
teacher, Marilyn Curtis, her accomplishments as a teacher is no surprise to
anyone. In 2002, Mrs. Curtis was a finalist for Teacher of the
Year. Mrs. Curtis has been a Science and Math teacher since
1990. Recently, she was one of only twenty eight other educators selected
to attend the Governor’s Academy for Science and Math. While at the
Academy, Mrs. Curtis will meet with other teachers from around the State of
Maine and United States to discuss the current areas of Science and
Math. Exactly how much time it will take to finish all the work
required doesn’t bother Mrs. Curtis. She will do her homework
projects, read a lot, study and share all she learns with everyone in Lisbon
education. Mrs. Curtis loves being a teacher it “keeps her
young.” She loves to get up in the morning and come to her job, it
is a great reward. According to Mrs. Curtis, when she first left for college
she only had $5.00, and was the first one in her community to attend
college. She was determined to be a teacher. Mrs. Curtis
would “like teachers to be enthusiastic about what they do and spread
this enthusiasm to their students.” As a student Mrs. Curtis
feels “if you are excited you will learn.” Congratulations to
our teacher Mrs. Marilyn Curtis, we are proud of you!
Indeed Congratulations to Mrs. Curtis!
