Proposed Firearm Confiscation Bill Scheduled for Debate in Augusta

Legislation is being considered in Augusta by the Joint Criminal Justice and Public Safety Committee that puts all gun owners in jeopardy. 

On Thursday, March 11, at 1:00 P.M. in Room 436 of the State House, committee members will be debating a bill that would (according to news reports)  require law enforcement officers to seize firearms during an investigation of domestic violence or dispute, even if a firearm was not allegedly used (or threatened to be used) in the altercation.  As a result, someone’s firearms could be confiscated without the opportunity to participate in the judicial process or on the mere allegation of domestic violence.  Since the bill has not yet been introduced, no bill language is available for review.

Domestic abuse is undeniably tragic and deplorable; however, this proposal is an unnecessary and unjust overreaction.   Laws are already in place on the federal and state level to protect victims of violence. The proposed measure sets the stage for abuse of power and the violation of civil rights.

Please contact your State Legislators TODAY and respectfully ask them to oppose any legislation that would restrict your Second Amendment rights without due process.
