Jason Levesque Comments on President Obama's Visit to Maine

Mike Michaud Joins President Obama To Sell Health Care To Mainers….after the fact

Auburn, Maine – Today, President Obama visited Portland, Maine in an effort to sell the health care package to Mainers, after it’s already been signed into law. 2nd District Candidate Jason Levesque released the following statement on the visit:

“I would like to thank President Obama for coming to Maine. Despite my differences with many of his policies, he is the President of the United States and it is an honor to have in my home state.

“I think it is unfortunate that the up-sell of this health care legislation by the President and Congressman Mike Michaud, comes after the vote. These are the conversations that should have taken place ahead of time and something I repeatedly requested Congressman Michaud do. People of Maine want health care reform that reduces the cost of insurance and opens access. The People do not want a job-killing, tax-hiking, premium-increasing, government-intervening, mandate-filled piece of legislation such as what Mike Michaud voted for and the President signed. More than anything, the People want to be listened to. It is disingenuous to pretend that today’s visit is anything more than a political stunt to attempt to use the star of the President to garner support for a very bad, very unpopular piece of legislation.

“While it is too late to prevent this bill from becoming law, I would urge Congressman Michaud to hold open meetings with his citizens to discuss the possibility of fixing this legislation before most of it is enacted. I believe we need to repeal this legislation and replace it with true reform including TORT reform, small business pooling and opening state lines for insurance purchases. This is real reform that will achieve what the people have asked for and I look forward to continued discussion on this over the next several months.”
