LEVESQUE AND MICHAUD FACE OFF IN FIRST DEBATE
Auburn, Maine – The Congressional Candidates for Maine’s 2nd District faced off for the first time this evening at Maine Public Broadcasting Network’s Lewiston studios. Challenger Jason Levesque and incumbent Mike Michaud showed how far they differ from each other on the major issues today including Health Care, Stimulus, Cap and Trade, Spending and How to Bring Jobs to Maine.
Debate Highlights:
On Social Security:

Congressman, what will you do to make Social Security solvent? Jason has a plan. Your option of “status quo or say no,” won’t fix the problem.
On Health Care:
According to Mike: Parts are good, parts are bad. Some bad enough he’s now submitting legislation to repeal the parts of it he doesn’t like, but that he voted for.

On being a Blue Dog Democrat:
Mike Michaud: “Gotta live within your budget”
He voted to increase the debt ceiling by $2 Trillion dollars, to $14 Trillion. This is debt spending. How is that living within your budget?
On the Deficit:
Mike Michaud: “We need to hold down the deficit.”
We want to hold the deficit where it is? Jason doesn’t want to hold it where it is, he wants to cut it. Mike Michaud has voted for massive spending measures including the failed stimulus, the health care takeover, the cap and trade energy tax and the auto bail out.
On Afghanistan:
According to Mike: Osama Bin Laden is in Pakistan not Afghanistan. “We’ve completed our mission.”
