Lisbon's Bus Service
A Town Council's true effectiveness isn't decided by the number of
businesses it can attract or by the number of parades it organizes. It
is measured by how responsive it is to the needs of its residents.
Our Council is being given an opportunity to show how in touch they are with its residents.
The cut in Lisbons Bus Service causes a serious problem for many people
that rely on the service for shopping or transportation to and from
work. This problem doesn't have an easy answer for many of our residents
that don’t drive.
At last Tuesdays council meeting Lisbon Councilors saved the town over
7000 dollars by securing a very low demolition bid for the work that
needs to be done at 3 Village St.
I feel that savings could best be spent by helping our non-driving
residents by supplementing the Lisbon bus service. This expenditure
would really make the quality of life immensely better for a lot of our
residents
If the Council can spend over 7 thousand dollars in legal fees to
temporarily postpone legal FOAA requests we can surely spend a little
to help those affected by this funding cut.
I hope Lisbon Council recognizes how much this relatively small
investment would improve the life for so many of Lisbons residents.
