Hampstead fire chief ordered to repay $80,000

HAMPSTEAD — The state is asking fire Chief Michael Carrier to pay back $80,000 of his pension, since he accepted the money while employed full-time by the Hampstead Fire Department.
When Carrier retired as chief of the Londonderry Fire Department in 2007, he qualified for a state pension, according to Marty Karlon, spokesman for the New Hampshire Retirement System.
But then Carrier got a new job as the fire chief in Hampstead.
State statute only allows retirees with a pension to hold part-time positions, Karlon said.
