Pop, Boom, Bang, More Fireworks For Lisbon Readers

YOU CAN'T FIX STUPID

To take a quote from Lisbon Town Councilor Gina Mason at the Tuesday July 17, 2012 Town Council workshop concerning the sale and use of fireworks in the Town of Lisbon.

At the Council meeting, during the only period when the public is now allowed to speak, several spoke out against the use of fireworks in town, One person spoke in favor, but with limitations.

Many of you young 'whippersnappers' are much too young to remember when, many years ago, the sale and use of fireworks were legal in Maine.

Ever wonder why? Unless done by professionals under controlled circumstances?

Many were badly injured due to improper use. Many lost fingers, hands, eyesight. Some were children.

As  Councilor Gina Mason said, "you can't fix stupid".

When the Maine Legislature lifted the ban and allowed the sales and use of fireworks in Maine, that was not their finest hour.

Sparklers, snappers, aka poppers, mainly used by children are illegal while any fireworks containing up to 20 grams of chemical composition, (gunpowder), is legal.
*See Maine Revised Statute, Title 8, Amusements and sports, Chapter 9-A: Fireworks. (click on to read)

They created a state statue that puts the problem right into the laps of each and every town and city in the State of Maine. Creating more problems for police and fire departments.

Councilor Mason agrees wholeheartedly with the Maine Legislature on this matter. Why not? Her son, Garret Mason, Maine Senator, and cousin Dale Crafts, Maine House of Representatives, both voted in favor.

I wonder if Councilor Mason would still be in favor if she was living in a housing development or a downtown area where homes are on small lots and her next door neighbor was setting off bottle rockets? With the BOOM - BOOM - BOOM? Wondering when the danger of a missile misfiring, going astray and possibly setting her house on fire?

That's right she lives in an area of town where she covertly had a conditional use permit created with a temporary restriction with no expiration date.   Ah, the powers of corruption in Lisbon wreak havoc upon the unknowing.

People say, you cannot legislate everything. You can't fix stupid either, and it runs in families. Something like being herederdicktory. (Pun specific)

 Why did Maine create  laws:

 1. Requiring those on motorcycles
(Required by law for those under age 18; or operating under a learner's permit; or operating less than one year with license/endorsement; or as a passenger of an operator required to wear protective headgear) and bicycles (According to Maine's Bicycle Safety Education Act, any person under the age of 16 must use a bicycle helmet when operating or riding as a passenger on a bicycle on a public roadway or public bike path) to wear helmets?

2. Make texting Illegal (Maine became the 33rd state to ban texting while driving as Gov. Paul LePage signed off on the safety legislation June 3,2011) but talking on a cell phone (Maine prohibits drivers under the age of 18 from using cell phones while driving, but there are no restrictions on adults.) not illegal?

TO FIX STUPID! ! ! ! !?

Laws cannot protect everyone from doing stupid things.

IS THE MAINE LEGISLATURE IN THAT CATEGORY?

YOU DECIDE IN NOVEMBER
