Lisbon Councilors tell voters ***NO*** YOU WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO VOTE ON THE BUDGET.
Last
November Lisbon voters gave a loud and clear message to their
Councilors. They said, with an overwhelming 80% vote, they wanted a
voice in the budget process. Last night Councilors gave their response. It was **** NO **** we won’t let you vote on your own budget.
Councilor Roger Bickford
As
stated by Mr. Bickford, if the residents want to vote on the budget
they can take out a petition and get the signatures needed to place the
initiative on the ballot. He went on to say that in his opinion the Councilors will never give the people a vote on the budget.
Why are our Councilors refusing to give us what we want.
Why are our Councilors refusing to give us what we want.
- Do the Councilors feel they have superior decision making powers or feel we are incapable of making the correct decisions for ourselves.
- Are they afraid we will find something that they want hidden.
- Are they protecting someone or a department. If so, whom or what.
As it stands our Councilors are telling us they will make the decisions for us whether we like it or not. Our only input is the tax money we are legally obligated to send to the Town each year.
Councilor Lisa Ward
Councilor Ward said “the people have spoken",
then she turned her back on that voice and voted with the rest of the
Councilors. They removed our budget initiave from the motion. The
problem isn’t that the people are silent, The problem is the Council isn’t listening.
When you couple their unwillingness to follow the peoples wishes with their newly acquired
Councilor recall protections Lisbon has a form of taxation without representation. At least for the length of the Councilors term in office.
If the residents of Lisbon stand for this blatant disregard for their wishes they will stand for anything. Join with me and let your voice be heard. Tell the Councilors they answer to us.
Call your Councilors and demand they abide with last November’s mandate.

According to Mr. Eldridge, the request to have the people vote on the municipal budget has been before the council for the past four years. It was only last year, as a desperation gesture, the question was put before the people on the November 2011 ballot. Four years have passed, and this council is still delaying the process. History shows us this council has no desire to grant the wishes of the people. Delays after delays preventing the people from voting on the municipal budget shows, to what length this council will go, to prevent this process from happening. One would think four years would be sufficient time to make this happen.
