Grand Re-Opening Of The Children's Reading Room At The Lisbon Library

(Original story posted on the 27th. We Just updated it with photos. Enjoy!!!!!)

Dear Readers;

This morning I had the great pleasure of attending the grand re-opening of the Children's Reading Room at the Lisbon Library, Main Street, Lisbon Falls.

The room was filled with little ones, parents and probably a few grandparents.

Imagine a room filled with little children, all under the age of 4 or 5. All talking at once, playing, doing what little children do. Pure Joy! ! !

Ribbon cutting is normally done by prominent officials, town managers and the like.

Not when you have a person like Diane Nadeau, our own Lisbon Library Lady!

When it was time for the ribbon cutting, kid-safe scissors were passed out, and about fifteen or more small pairs of hands holding scissors, cut the ribbon to their own Reading Room.

After the ribbon cutting the children all gathered around, bean bags were tossed, and than it was story-time!

Again, imagine twenty little ones, all listening intently, while Jo-Jean Keller, another Lisbon Library Lady, made the stories come alive!

Do you, Dear Readers, know how fortunate we here in our town are to have a facility like the Lisbon Library with the resources offered, and staffed by the wonderful Lisbon Library Ladies?

And add to that, Dawn King, always ready to do whatever is needed.

Let us not forget the Library Governing Board, responsible for the new sign over the door through their fund-raising efforts.

The Children's Reading Room was musty and damp and badly in need of renovation.

Before any work could be done, all the books had to be removed from the shelves, boxed and stored.

The process was reversed after the renovations. This all was done by the Library Ladies and Dawn King.

The renovation was done by a, F.C.I., local contractors. Exterior walls were insulated, new sheet rock installed and painted.

The New Children's Reading Room is warm and inviting. Everything is child-sized, and kid-friendly.

A place where memories are made!

The Children's Reading Room is located on the lower level of the Library, and is easily assessable from Union Street.
