In The Coming Month,

In the coming month, both Groundhog Day and the State of the Union address occur on the same day, Feb. 2, 2011.

"It is an ironic juxtaposition of events:
One involves a meaningless ritual in which we look to an insignificant creature of little intelligence for prognostication.

While the other involves a groundhog."

Street Gangs In Alberta

STREET GANGS IN ALBERTA

It's gangs like these that the people of   Alberta have to put up with..

A bit different from the problems in other cities...

It proves that every City has their own "unique" gang problems. They
roam the streets and yards night and day.

They hang out in even the best neighborhoods!

..and you CANNOT (legally) stop them.

AREN'T THEY MAGNIFICENT !!!!???

How To Avoid Bed Bugs

Bed Bugs

Friends here in our community and one of their sons is an entomologist (insect expert), and has been telling them that there is an epidemic of bed bugs now occurring in America.  Recently I have heard on the news that several stores in NYC have had to close due to bed bug problems, as well as a complete mall in New Jersey.

He says that since much of our clothing, sheets, towels, etc. now comes from companies outside of America, (sad but true), even the most expensive stores sell foreign clothing from China, Indonesia, etc.  The bed bugs are coming in on the clothing as these countries do not consider them a problem.  He recommends that if you buy any new clothing, even underwear and socks, sheets, towels, etc. that you bring them into the house and put them in your clothes dryer for at least 20 minutes.  The heat will kill them and their eggs.

DO NOT PURCHASE CLOTHES AND HANG THEM IN THE CLOSET FIRST.

It does not matter what the price range is of the clothing, or if the outfit comes from the most expensive store known in the U.S.  They still get shipments from these countries and the bugs can come in a box of scarves or anything else for that matter.

That is the reason why so many stores, many of them clothing stores have had to shut down in NYC and other places.   All you need is to bring one item into the house that has bugs or eggs and you will go to hell and back trying to get rid of them.  He travels all over the country as an advisor to many of these stores, as prevention and after they have the problem.

Send this information on to those on your e-mail list so that this good prevention information gets around quickly.

Tim Sample and MDIFW Day– A special combo on Saturday, June 19th!

Tim Sample and MDIFW Day– A special combo on Saturday, June 19th!

Widely acknowledged to be New England’s premier native humorist, Tim Sample’s books, albums, and videos (including four albums and a video for the Bert and I company) have sold well over a million copies. Over the years, Tim has performed thousands of shows in venues as diverse as the Los Angeles Convention Center, the Mall of America, the New York Yacht Club & the Caribou Performing Arts Center.
Tim Samples’ show times at the Wildlife Park today will include two 50 minute performances between 10:30am-12:30pm. This family show is locally sponsored by several area businesses and organizations, including the Gems of Route 26, Cole Farms Restaurant and Friends of Maine Wildlife Park. The wildlife park is extremely grateful for their support!

In addition, the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife’s programs, projects and personnel will be showcased from 9:30am-3:30pm today. The Department is charged to preserve and protect the fish and wildlife of the state, for everyone to enjoy. Hunting and fishing are a part of Maine’s outdoor heritage; but more and more Maine citizens are as or more interested in watching, feeding and photographing the wildlife that call Maine home.

Whether you are watching a bald eagle soar, photographing a moose; enjoying loons and other waterfowl; or catch a glimpse of a bobcat; watching wildlife is popular with hikers, kayakers, bicyclists, picnickers, state park visitors, back yard bird feeders and those just out enjoying the woods and waters of the state.
These folks, who do not directly financially contribute to our wildlife and habitat preservation programs, need to know more about what the Department does, to ensure their enjoyment of Maine’s abundant wildlife both for now and into the future.

Wildlife and fisheries biologists, safety officers, hatchery staff and game wardens will be on hand and in person, to talk about their fishery, wildlife, safety and enforcement programs and projects throughout the day. Come and learn what we do, and how we support the habitats and populations of all of Maine’s wildlife…..making Maine a better place for people, too!
All of today’s events are scheduled to proceed rain or shine.

Bee Informed

THE UNEXPLAINED ...

Buzz kill! Is this 'bee Armageddon'?

Nature's most valuable workers mysteriously vanishing out of thin air

By Chelsea Schilling

Honeybee (photo: USDA, Rob Flynn)
What is devastating the world's honeybees?
In what appears to be a honeybee mystery of Armageddon proportions that has baffled scientists and beekeepers, more than one-third of the nation's bee population is mysteriously disappearing – and researchers warn the unexplained phenomenon threatens one-third of the American diet.
Entire colonies of honeybees are abandoning hives and food stores, including honey and pollen. In collapsed colonies, adult bees mysteriously disappear, and there is no accumulation of dead bees. Even hive pests such as wax moths and hive beetles are nowhere to be found around affected colonies. Likewise, other honeybees are reluctant or unwilling to rob the abandoned hives of honey.
Only days before a honeybee colony collapses, according to Bee Culture Magazine, the colony appears to be strong and fully functional. Read more.

Offshore Drilling.....This is disgusting!

 Submitted by Robert C.

Why aren`t Obama supporters mad about this?

Please liberals, keep an open mind and read the article.  Are you so
ingrained in the liberal world that you aren`t willing to read an
article critical of the idealism.

I Googled this and sure enough, it is in the August 18, 2009 issue of
the Wall Street Journal.  Wonder why it does not show up on SNOPES?
Hmmm.

To find this Wall St. Journal article I had to search on the Journal's
search engine.  Type in...Obama Underwrites Offshore Drilling.
The web page in this e-mail has been shut down.   You can access the
Journal article from the links given below.

Amazing how if another country drills, it is ok. Does not pollute.  But
we can't. Can anybody explain it to me?  This should be front page news
on every newspaper in the USA

I HOPE THIS GETS YOU AND MAKES YOU MAD --- LIKE IT DOES ME

To my liberal friends, before you delete this, please take the time to
read the entire email.

This is a perfect example why I refrain from watching the news on
--- ABC, NBC, CBS, CNN or MSNBC - You didn't see a word of this on any
of those networks.  They report only what they want you to know...

On 20 August 2009, on a segment of the "Glen Beck Show" on FCN (Fox
Cable News) ... was the following:

"Today even though President Obama is against offshore drilling for oil
for
this country.  He signed an executive order to loan 2 Billion or more
of our
taxpayers dollars to a Brazilian Oil Exploration Company (which is
the 8th
largest company in the entire world)  to drill  for oil off the
coast of Brazil.

The oil that comes from this operation is for the sole purpose and use
of
China  and not the  USA .

The Chinese government is under contract to purchase all the oil that
this oil field will produce, which is hundreds of millions of barrels
of oil".

We have absolutely no gain from this transaction whatsoever.

  Wait, it gets more interesting:
Guess who is the largest individual stockholder of this Brazilian
Oil Company, and who would benefit most from this ---???

It is American Billionaire, George Soros, the Liberal businessman who
is
a radical left wing supporter, finances "MoveOn.org" as well as other
liberal programs, and was President Obama's largest and most generous
  supporter during his campaign.

If you are able to connect the dots and follow the money, you are
probably
  as upset as I am.

Not a word of this transaction was on any of the other news networks.

Forward this factual e-mail to others who care about this country, so
they
may see where it is going.

Does anyone think this was the type of change Obama meant ---???
  Or, maybe it was.

SURPRISE:
For the "Nay Sayers" - the "Disbelievers" - the "Republican Bashers" -
and especially for the "BHO Cheering Section" ---

Kindly NOTE:
On 18 August 2009 - "The Wall Street Journal"
published the same news.

Obama Underwrites Offshore Drilling
Too bad it's not in  U.S.  waters.

You read that headline correctly.
Unfortunately, the Obama Administration is financing oil exploration
off Brazil .

The  U.S.  is going to lend billions of dollars to  Brazil 's
state-owned oil company ...

--- Article --- continues...
http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052970203863204574346610120524166.html
You can only wonder WHAT President Obama ---
is getting out of this ---???

Kill "em and eat 'em...A great aviation story

Kill "em and eat 'em...A great aviation story

This came from a gent who runs a 2000 acre corn farm up around Barron, WI,
not far from Oshkosh. He use to fly F-4Es and F-16s for the Guard and
participated in the first Gulf War.

Submitted for your enjoyment, and as a reminder that there are other great,
magnificent fliers around besides us.

-------------------------------------------------

I went out to plant corn for a bit to finish a field before tomorrow morning
and witnessed The Great Battle. A golden eagle - big bastard, with about a
six foot wingspan - flew right in front of the tractor. It was being chased
by three crows that were continually dive bombing it and pecking at it. The
crows do this because the eagles rob their nests when they find them.

At any rate, the eagle banked hard right in one evasive maneuver, and then
landed in the field about 100 feet from the tractor. This eagle stood about
3 feet tall. The crows all landed too, and took up positions around the
eagle at 120 degrees apart, but kept their distance at about 20 feet from
the big bird. The eagle would take a couple steps towards one of the crows
and they'd hop backwards and forward to keep their distance. Then the
reinforcement showed up.

I happened to spot the eagle's mate hurtling down out of the sky at what
appeared to be approximately Mach 1.5. Just before impact the eagle on the
ground took flight, (obviously a coordinated tactic; probably pre-briefed)
and the three crows which were watching the grounded eagle, also took flight
thinking they were going to get in some more pecking on the big bird. The
first crow being targeted by the diving eagle never stood a snowball's
chance in hell. There was a mid-air explosion of black feathers and that
crow was done. The diving eagle then banked hard left in what had to be a
9G climbing turn, using the energy it had accumulated in the dive, and hit
crow #2 less than two seconds later. Another crow dead.

The grounded eagle, which was now airborne and had an altitude advantage on
the remaining crow, which was streaking eastward in full burner, made a
short dive then banked hard right when the escaping crow tried to evade the
hit. It didn't work - crow #3 bit the dust at about 20 feet AGL.

This aerial battle was better than any air show I've been to, including the
warbirds show at Oshkosh. The two eagles ripped the crows apart and ate
them on the ground, and as I got closer and closer working my way across the
field, I passed within 20 feet of one of them as it ate its catch. It
stopped and looked at me as I went by and you could see in the look of that
bird that it knew who's Boss Of The Sky. What a beautiful bird!

I loved it. Not only did they kill their enemy, they ate them.

One of the best Fighter Pilot stories I've seen in a long time...

There are no noble wars-- Only noble warriors

Rare Bear(z) Sighted

Black bears typically have two cubs; rarely, one or three. In 2007, in northern New Hampshire, a black bear Sow gave birth to five healthy young. There were two or three reports of sows with as many as 4 cubs, but five was, and is, very extraordinary.

I learned of them shortly after they emerged from their den and set myself a goal of photographing all five cubs with their mom - no matter how much time and effort was involved.

I knew the trail they followed on a fairly regular basis, usually shortly before dark. After spending nearly four hours a day, seven days a week, for more than six weeks, I had that once-in-a-lifetime opportunity
and photographed them. I used the equivalent of a very fast film speed on my digital camera. The print is properly focused and well exposed, with all six bears posing as if they were in a studio for a family portrait.

I stayed in touch with other people who saw the bears during the summer and into the fall hunting season. All six bears continued to thrive.

As time for hibernation approached, I found still more folks who had seen them, and everything remained OK. I stayed away from the bears as I was concerned that they might become habituated to me, or to people in general, and treat them as `approachable friends. This could easily become dangerous for both man and animal..

After Halloween, I received no further reports and could only hope the bears survived until they hibernated.

This spring, just before the snow disappeared, all six bears came out of their den and wandered all over the same familiar territory they trekked in the spring of 2007.

I saw them before mid-April and dreamed nightly of taking another family portrait, a highly improbable second once-in-a-lifetime photograph.

On 25 April 2008, I achieved my dream.

When something as magical as this happens between man and animal Native Americans say: "We have walked together in the shadow of a rainbow."

And so it is with humility and great pleasure that I share these photos with you.

Sincerely,

Tom Sears

PS. As of today, August 22, 2008, the cubs are doing well but have gone their separate ways and there will not be another "family portrait".
