A Thank You To Some Great Lisbon Community Volunteers

Submitted by Faye Brown

Many thanks to the 2009 Green Thumb Gang volunteer!

Our 13th season of planting and maintaining garden spots around the town was a challenging one- relentless rain in the Spring, reconstruction of roads, then weeks in late summer with no rain! Call Faye at 353-2728 for information about volunteering in 2010.

Before thanking our volunteers, I would like to express a huge appreciation to two landscaping businesses for taking over three major gardens and all related costs for this season. Pine Knoll has created beautiful gardens and planters at the Topsham line ‘Welcome to Lisbon’ sign and also in the front of the MTM Center. In addition to the beautiful donations to the town, the gardens at their business location on Lisbon Road and the Lisbon Credit Union are magnificent additions to our town landscapes.

Riverbend Landscaping of Durham has created several lovely gardens at the Durham ‘Welcome to Lisbon’ sign. If you were fortunate to see the gardens at their nicest , that is to say, before the resident woodchuck ate them down to nubs, they were lovely. Owner James Herling invested a lot trying to find something that our ‘friend’ might pass up, but it was another tough year for Riverbend, and another tasty year for Chuckie. Thank you for all your efforts, James, and despite the pest, it still looked very nice and maintained.

Thanks to our Green Thumb Gang 2009 Volunteers.
