Just Imagine

Dear Friends and Fellow Residents;

Many of you know by now that the Worumbo Mill
property is now on the market, listed with a Real Estate
Agency. As Ms. Bradley, the Town of Lisbon  Develop-
ment Director, had not been able to find the right person
or company to purchase and develop the property,
Mr. Miller decided to put it into the hands of a Realtor.
Ms. Bradley is still working with the Realtor to find the
best fit, for the property  and for the Town.

The asking price for the parcel south of Canal Street,
together with the Worumbo Mill and the red brick,
office building, with 5.75 acres and 1,000 ft. of
waterfrontage on the Androscoggin River is $899,000.

The parcel north of Canal Street, between Route 196
and Canal Street containing 2.5 acres is on the market for
$169,000.

The day that came on the market I saw an article with
photo in the newspaper of  the waterfront park in Bangor.
The Town of Rumford has a beautiful waterfront park as
do the Towns of Richmond and Bowdoinham. It got me to thinking,
"why not a waterfront park right here in Lisbon?" Why can't
the Town of Lisbon purchase the property and create a beautiful
waterfront park? I know what you all are thinking.

One Million dollars is a big chunk of change! That it is! But
when watching the Moxie Parade on Saturday I lost count of the
number of fire equipment we have here in our little town. We can
afford (?) to purchase two (2) new police cruisers each and every
year. We have spent, or will be spending over one million dollars
on walking paths. Buying the Worumbo Mill Property, with it's
historic value, creating a waterfront park would be an investment
in our future. The value of the two buildings would be increased
considerably and could be sold. We, the Town would have total
control. Waterfront property is at a premium, it does not  come
along every day. Just imagine, concerts in the park, picnic tables, a
stroll along the river, Christmas lights. Perhaps a first class
restaurant with outdoor dining in the summer, a Mini-mall with shops.

We would be a destination, not just a  drive through.
Business would thrive. We could have a gem, right here in our town.

Town Manager Eldridge has agreed to include the proposal on the agenda
for the Tuesday July 20 town council meeting.

Thoughts and feedback from the public?
