County Emergency Communications Is A County Function!

Androscoggin County Communications Center

After careful perusal of Chief Brooks presentation I feel Lisbon is the logical choice for the new Androscoggin County Communications Center.

My only fear is that Lisbon will eventually be saddled with the lion's share of the operating cost of this Emergency Dispatch Facility.

Under the Chief's proposal Lisbon would be ultimately responsible for the Center's budget. This may give Lisbon some control over the Centers operations but it could also place Lisbon in a very precarious position if other towns using the Center decide, a year or two down the road, to opt out and seek cheaper alternatives. We may be left picking up the majority of the centers tab.

I believe Lisbon would be better protected if the Communications Center was a separate entity from the town and run mainly by the County with advisory input for the towns that it serves.

County Emergency Communications is a county function and is best delivered by the county.
