Why Is Our Council Farting Around With The Voters Wishes?

WHY THE DELAY?

On August 14, 2012, the town council was presented with the Charter Changes Councilor Bowie had requested of the town attorney, Roger Therriault.  These changes included where after two “NO” votes by the people the proposed town council’s budget would be put into effect.

I have said this a hundred times but I will say it again, “Why waste the voters time and our tax dollars if they are going to adopt the town council proposed budget anyways?”  There is absolutely no incentive for the town council to cut any spending at all.  They can continue to raise taxes anytime they wish to support outrageous spending.

It would make more sense, as people have stated, to utilize last year’s budget after two “NO” votes by the people.  This would provide an incentive for the town council to curb their excessive spending.

But what is even more disturbing is the fact that since August 14, 2012 there have been two council meetings and this has not been on the agenda.  Why are they waiting?  Could it be that they are waiting until it is too late to make changes in time for the November election and we will have to wait another year for this to be placed on the ballot or are they hoping it will be placed, as is, on the ballot knowing perfectly well this is not what the people asked for and it will be defeated.  If it is defeated on the ballot, the town council’s next budget will be safe for another year.  This is normally the tactic utilized by Councilor Bowie on all controversial issues.

We, the people, need to put a stop to all this nonsense.  We need to send a clear message to each member of the town council this type of behavior will no longer be tolerated.  Call or email each member of the town council and tell them exactly what you, the people want.

It is time for a change and let’s start in November by voting them out.

I've wrote every single member of the town council on multiple subjects. I included the town manager on all emails. I've never had one answer from any council member. It's very sad. I will never vote for any sitting member of any position in Lisbon again. EVER! Not even for water supt. This town "elders" are a joke--a good ol'boys club if you will.
