RECAP TOWN COUNCIL MEETING – OCTOBER 2ND

RECAP TOWN COUNCIL MEETING – OCTOBER 2ND

Last night’s town council meeting was business as usual. Several people spoke about numerous subjects to include a communications tower being place on Route 9 without the town notifying the residents in the area. A lady talked about being harassed by her neighbors with fireworks. She also mentioned that she and several other individuals had completed the fireworks survey; you remember the town fireworks survey the council decided to ignore because it did not fit into their agenda.

I asked several questions without receiving any answers. The questions were:

  • Why do the people have to beg the council for a financial report on the Moxie Festival?

  • How is the town earmarking accounts that are inflated to the tune of $107,000?

  • What account did they transfer $96,258.00 into?

  • Why doesn’t the town fireworks ordinance not include an age restriction or include the use of “Novelty” fireworks such as “Snappers” for our kids?

  • Has the town determined how many LLC’s have been receiving the Homestead Exemption illegally and how much money is owed to the town plus how are they going to collect the past due taxes?
  •
  • Why does the Audience Participation Response come after the Audience Participation when the responses are for the previous meeting?

Under Council, Orders, Resolutions & Ordinances the council voted 6-0 to approve the 1st reading of the Fireworks Ordinance.

Under Other Business there were discussions on the Library, Moxie Festival, Banners and Boards & Committee Discussions. The town is going to turn the Moxie Festival over to the community, with the exception of the liability insurance, which will remain with the town. The Positive Change Lisbon (PCL) will be working with the town on banners. Finally, the council wants the town manager to look into combining boards and committees, their mission statements and by-laws.

The council voted 6-0 to accept all the appointments.

Under Councilor Communications there was a discussion about the Fisher Bridge project running late, Public Works doing an excellent job cleaning up the town and more discussion on the Moxie Festival.

There were no answers provided to the questions previously asked under Audience Participation Response. Apparently, the Chairman and the council do not want to respond to the people.
