Incomplete or Incompetent Work On Reporting To Lisbon Residents By "Up River" Media Source?

WHAT A WASTE OF TIME!!!

It is simply amazing that the Sun Journal reporter, Paula Gibbs, only reports on a few items discussed during the Town Council meeting last Tuesday.  The items that dealt with the Sewer Department and the fine Department of Environment Protection levied on the town of Lisbon.

Editor's note: Click the following link to read her reporting.

Apparently, this was all Mrs. Gibbs was interested in because there was a lot more that took place during the meeting.  Mrs. Goddard addressed the location of the new water tower and where it would best serve the community.   She also asked about the possibility of using a “land trust” for protection of the water tower.  This is growing into a controversial item.

I asked about why the council approved $100,000 tax dollars over budgeted in the Tax Increment Financing (TIF) account.  I wondered if there was some more account over budgeted.  I also asked why it is every time someone brings up an issue that either embarrasses the town, or the council does not have an answer for there is technical difficulty with the video equipment so the people never hear about it.  These are also items of interest to the community but were never reported by Mrs. Gibbs.

The town was asked about selling the AccuVote Machines & Black Boxes.  Also included was the first reading of the Shoreland Zoning Map & Ordinance Amendment (1st Reading).  Mrs. Gibbs apparently did not feel the people of Lisbon needed any of this information.

Mrs. Gibbs left the meeting at this point.  During the Town Manager’s report, Mr. Eldridge mentioned the following:

June 27, 2013 Planning Board meeting will discuss the Water Tower.

July 1, 2013 Utilities Committee will be meeting to discuss the possible consolidation of water         and sewer.

July 2, 2013 There will be a Public Hearing on the Shoreland Zoning Map & Ordinance Amendment.

July 11, 2013 A workshop with both the Council and the Planning Board that is open to the public.

One would think that these meetings and workshops would be of importance to the community and as a local newspaper would be considered as Public Announcements to keep the people informed.  It would appear that Mrs. Gibbs and the Sun Journal do not consider these meetings as essential information for the community and that is why the Sun Journal does not print them.  Mrs. Gibbs only attends half of the meetings for whatever reason.

Also Councilor Gina Mason briefed the council and public on the Moxie Day festival.  This is also a big event for the community and Mrs. Gibbs did not report any of the information.

What good does it do to report only part of the meeting and none of the public service announcements?

Mr. Fillmore,
I did follow your link to the article and found that it completely and succinctly covered the topic in the headline. It had all the facts I would expect in an article about the DEP fine and the sewer dept. Had the article been titled “Lisbon Council Meeting Covers Several topics” then maybe you would have a point.

The truth is that real news sites find information that the majority of people want to hear about. A site such as this one however continues to throw so much extreme and unbelievable chaff in the way that any news or opinion of true value gets lost on 95% of folks. I do come here from time to time to gawk at the absurdity but as a rule, all the conspiracy garbage kills any likelihood that I will believe that anything written locally is not simply made up. Just my opinion.

Larry,

While you and I do not see eye to eye on some issues, I do agree that the departure of the Sun Journal reporter half way through the meeting was a disservice to their subscribers in Lisbon. And while I agree with your Anonymous poster that the frequent declarations of cover-ups and conspiracies detract from the value of this blog as a source of information, posting as Anonymous also detracts from their opinion ... Which is of course my opinion. If your convictions are strong enough to comment, I encourage any reader to take responsibility and credit for their posts ... please note I am not singling out the post specifically, but any one who wishes to use this venue to post information or opinions.
