It’s Fall – well officially in a week — and that means it’s time for something I so cherish: NCAA college football season. I love college sports and when that final shot is taken at March Madness, I go through serious withdrawals over the summer. College track and field is entertaining, but it’s college football and basketball that are my true sports loves. College sports are the last real bastion where young people play for the love of the sport. Not all of them will go onto the professional level, but they play with heart. I do wish there was a way the NCAA could develop a stipend system for the athletes – because they are responsible for increased revenue for many campuses. But there’s one thing I truly don’t want to see, and that is for the NCAA to become a playground for politics — as we saw when the Northwestern University football team asked to be unionized.
