Mr. Doughty Wins For Water Commission Write In
Lisbon town hall had such a difficult time with all the write in names that they did not finish it til Wednesday Morning. What a dedicated crew Thank You
Doughty re-elected with write-in votes in Lisbon
Connie Footman, Special to the Sun Journal
LISBON — Incumbent water commissioner Stan "Chip" Doughty was re-elected to another term with 130 write-in votes in Tuesday's election.
Doughty did not seek re-election and no one else filed for the position, leaving it up to voters to write in their choice. Because of the number of write-in ballots that had to be counted, election workers did not complete the final tally until Wednesday. In addition to Doughty's 130 votes, there were 320 scattered write-ins, Town Clerk Twila Lycette said.
As the referendum question asking voters if they wanted to "dissolve the water department" and have "all functions assumed by the town" was advisory only, the town council will now review the results and hear feedback from residents before making a decision on how to proceed.
Voters narrowly favored the change by a slim 35-vote margin, 2,247-2,212, Lycette said. A total of 4,833 votes were cast. There are 6,512 registered voters in Lisbon.

Lisbon - On December 15, 2009 eleven elected officials were sworn into office by Town Clerk, Twila Lycette, at the Lisbon Town Office. Council at Large, Michael Bowie; Council District 2, Lori Pomelow; Council District 1, Mark Lunt. New School Committee Members, Three year term, Kathy Yergin and Pete Reed; and One year team, George Caron. Budget Advisory Board District 1, Richard Graham; Budget Advisory Board District 2, Dorothy Fitzgerald; Budget Advisory Board District At Large, Donald Fellows. Water Commission, Stan Doughty; Water Commission (Appointed to fill vacancy), Ken Wells.Pictured (l-r) George Caron, Kathi Yergin and Pete Reed.
“I am thankful for being elected to the School Board, shared Kathi Yergin. "Due to budget cuts, the School Committee will be to working very hard to keep staff and programs up and running in the schools. I am fortunate to be working with a Superintendent who's beliefs are the same as mine. I hope to work with other committees in the Town of Lisbon in an effort to better understand the issues of the Town as a whole. My concern is for the current students of Lisbon, and the future of students, who will someday attend the Lisbon School System.”
