WND EXCLUSIVE Charlie Daniels unloads 'dag-blamed truth' on Obama

Feisty music legend worries after November, 'America will never be America again'

“There’s a move afoot to change life in America into a totally European – I’ve heard that so much I’m getting sick of it: ‘European’ – socialist thing,” says country-music legend Charlie Daniels, “but it’s the dag-blamed truth [sic], and it don’t work, it never has worked, and if America goes that way, America will never be America again.”

Daniels told WND in an exclusive interview that he expects 2012, with the nation’s very identity on the line, will be “the biggest election we have ever had.”

“In my 75 years on Earth, it’s never been as clear-cut as it is now,” Daniels said. “We’re either going to go into socialism, where part of the people work and the rest of them don’t, and the ones that do will be taxed to death, or – I got the point where I don’t trust politicians anymore, but hopefully – the other side represents, ‘Let’s put America back to work; let’s re-instill the work ethic back in people.’”

Since the 1950s Daniels has been a country singer and famed fiddler, perhaps best known for his hit song “The Devil Went Down to Georgia.” He was inducted into the Grand Ole Opry in 2008.

But he also writes frequently on culture and politics, no stranger to bold statements in defense of God and country, and maintains a “soapbox” blog on his website, CharlieDaniels.com.

For Daniels, the word “socialism” – synonymous in his mind with the big-spending, tax-the-rich, government-welfare, spread-the-wealth policies of President Obama and his fellow “progressives” – is a system not only destined for failure, but also inherently tyrannical.

“You cannot enforce socialism without some force,” Daniels told WND. “It’s a very top-heavy society, and every society that’s ever tried it has fallen, because you finally get to where there’s so many people, you cut out the work ethic, you make people think they have to be dependent on government for everything. It’s a mindset.”

Daniels brought up the recent controversy about Chick-fil-A restaurants – in which the Democrat mayors of Chicago and Boston threatened to ban the chicken sandwich makers from their respective cities because the owner is an outspoken opponent of same-sex marriage – as an example.

“To me that tips off where these guys are coming from: ‘If you don’t agree with us, we don’t want you in our town, we don’t want you in our country, we don’t want you in our political system,’” Daniels said. “Is it not downright un-American for an elected official to stand up and try to destroy a business? As bad as we need jobs in this country?

“This is not about ‘gay’ marriage; this is about America being America, about people being able to stick by their deeply held religious beliefs and not to have these people trying to put them out of business,” Daniels said. “That’s what this boils down to: Are these people going to try to shut up everybody who doesn’t agree with them?”
Daniels told WND there have been a few people who have tried to silence him, too, to tell him to stick to his music and leave politics alone.

“People say, ‘Shut up and sing.’ Somebody said that,” Daniels said. “But shut up for what? Why don’t you shut up? What do you do? You do something else. You’re a private citizen. Do you think you should shut up? I’m speaking as a private citizen, so I think I have a perfect right to do that.”

And what about the owner of Chick-fil-A Dan Cathy and other Christians like him who are told to leave their religious beliefs out of the public and political sphere?

“That’s a bunch of junk,” Daniels said. “They need to stand up for what they believe in.”
Daniels’ fierce defense of free speech goes hand in hand with what he sees as the solution to America’s economic woes: not some new “socialist” program from Congress that leaves people looking to Washington, D.C. for answers, but a grassroots solution of small businesses, work ethic and a capitalist revival of the American dream.

“You’re talking to a guy who travels coast to coast and border to border every year,” Daniels told WND. “There are bad things going on in this country. Too many empty storefronts, too many closed down businesses – the ‘economic recovery’ Obama has been spinning is not happening. The only answer [socialists] seem to have for it is to try over and over again. Look at the results. Look at the results of throwing money down a black hole in Washington.

“We change the nation by putting people back to work again,” Daniels proffered. “I’m a Christian; I believe in helping people who can’t help themselves. I do not believe in helping people who can help themselves. Instead of putting them on the dole, put them on the payroll.

“I heard a while ago that more people file for disability than file to get a job. Where in the heck is that at?” Daniels asked. “Is that America? Is that what made America great?

“We need to get people back, to employ them,” Daniels concluded, “and it’s never going to be done in Washington. It’s going to have to be done in the private sector.”

Banned band defeats city officials to deliver faith message to students

The leader of a Christian youth ministry that holds assemblies in public schools has returned to the scene of threats against his moral message with a presentation of faith and hope.

“The point was proven before we got out of the vehicle to speak,” said Bradlee Dean, the leader of the band Junkyard Prophet and the You Can Run But You Cannot Hide ministry.

As WND reported in March, Dean and his band were accused of “gay bashing” in an appearance at a Dunkerton, Iowa, public school and warned by the fire chief that he would close the town’s roads to keep the band from returning.

But after support from the non-profit legal advocacy group Liberty Counsel, Dean returned to Dunkerton and spoke at the city’s library during the Dunkerton Days festival.
“We were given a victory by God’s providential hand and the example was given to this generation, and anyone else, how they can receive the same victory for truth,” Dean told WND.

“As I travel this awesome God-given nation I come up with the same conclusion every event I am part of,” Dean said. “The majority of Americans share the conservative Judeo-Christian values I fight for. We can win this culture war when we fight together. It is leadership we are lacking in our cause, someone willing to risk reputation to set the precedent that our silent majority is waiting to join.”

The controversy erupted March 8 when Junkyard Prophet made a presentation at Dunkerton High School. The message included challenges to students to make the right decisions about life and their futures. They also warned about the damaging impact of the homosexual lifestyle and abortion.

Dean had told WND the controversy really developed when media started reporting on the band’s visit. He contends that he and his band performed, presented their message of making good choices, visited with students and then left without hearing any concerns.
He said complaints, like that from a mother, were based on distortions. The mother said the band “told these kids that anyone who was gay was going to die at the age of 42.”

In fact, Jake MacAulay, a spokesman for the band, had said that the average age of death of a homosexual male is 42 years.

For his return to Dunkerton, Dean reserved a room used for public meetings at the Dunkerton City Library.

The city then tried to cancel the event but reversed its position when Liberty Counsel wrote the city. The group pointed out that the law did not allow officials to censor someone based on their opinions or perspective.

“Religious speech is not a First Amendment orphan – it is just as protected as any other speech,” said Richard Mast, an attorney with Liberty Counsel, in a statement. “When a government entity creates a forum ostensibly available to all, it can’t suddenly retract the welcome mat because it disagrees with the speaker’s message.”

Mast said what Dunkerton had done was “a clear-cut case of viewpoint discrimination.”
At the public library, Dean said: “You know what the problem is with the younger generation? They don’t know the price paid for their freedoms. That’s the problem with our country.”

He told the story of a black slave girl up for bidding during the nation’s early history.
“Her delicate features destined her to be a sexual object for the appetite of her soon-to-be owner,” he related. “One man stood firm as he outbid every other buyer to a point he paid far above the expected price.

“The young slave was then dragged to the man and he was handed the chains. … The man did something really weird that day. He took the keys out of his pocket, he took her chains, unlocked her chains and threw them on the ground. He looked at her and said, ‘I bought you to set you free.’”

That, Dean said, is what Jesus did for sinners. That, he continued, is what America’s war veterans have done for American citizens.

The library was filled to capacity with students, parents and even city officials, Dean’s ministry reported.

Dean, who has appeared at hundreds of forums with his message of making the right choices, told WND that he had appeared at the same school years earlier and was invited back.

Controversy is not new for Dean. WND also reported Dean’s dispute with Rachel Maddow and MSNBC. Maddow was served with a lawsuit alleging defamation for her references to Dean’s You Can Run But You Cannot Hide ministry.

Most recently, Dean requested that the case be moved to federal court, and the judge in the District of Columbia court demanded that he pay Maddow’s defense attorney fees before she would allow that.

Her statements disparaging Dean prompted Dean’s attorney to file a request with the court that the judge be removed from the case.

RECAP TOWN COUNCIL WORKSHOP JULY 31ST

At last night’s workshop, the Planning Board joined the Town Council for a discussion with the new Town Planner.  Everyone was introduced to Amanda Bunker the new Town Planner.  Mrs. Bunker gave an interesting presentation as to what she perceived as the towns desire for her.  The presentation was excellently given and was very educational.  It included a very aggressive timeline for the coming year.

However, she asked the Town Council for guidance on how to proceed with the troubles in resolving issues on Route 9.  This opened up a very lengthy discussion on how to resolve the issues.  The Planner identified several problems:

 Current ROS-1 commercial use is generally limited to home-based businesses and agricultural businesses

Town has been made aware of commercial activities in violation of the zoning ordinance and the town Comprehensive Plan
 
 Question as to whether Route 9 should be treated differently

Some wish to change to allow appropriate businesses

Some concerned of impacts to residential/rural character

Need to resolve allowed commercial uses and enforce

The Comprehensive Plan was established by the residents of the town in a town meeting forum.  The majority of town voters approved the Comprehensive Plan.  The critical issue which was never brought out in this workshop was how these illegal businesses were allowed to operate on Route 9 when others were shut down.  The answer is very simple.  Friends and family of Town Council members, Planning Board members, Chief of Police and town management turned their backs and ignored the violations of the town Comprehensive Plan and town ordinances in order to keep friends and family happy.   However, when one individual was allowed to operate a business then others followed and now we have a mess.  In order to enforce the Comprehensive Plan and ordinances, these businesses are going to have to shut down.  The Town Council and Planning Board do not want to lose their close friends and family so they are looking for any loop-hole they can to keep their friends and family in business.  No one appears to be interested in doing what is right instead they are trying to find a way to legalize these illegal businesses.  Keep in mind, the Comprehensive Plan was voted on by the entire town and is the vision of what the citizens want Lisbon/Lisbon Falls to look like.  It is not what the people on Route 9 want.

The second agenda item pertain to the establishing of an Audit Committee and/or changing the Budget Advisory Board to a Finance Committee.  This was a short discussion about the duties and authority of each of these committees.  It was left to the Town Manager to create duties and the authority of these committees and present them to the Town Council.

I cannot tell if the management of the town of Lisbon are hypocrites or just plain liars so I am going to leave it up to you to make the decision.  There are two bullets in the town “Mission Statement” and they are:

In 2011, I was forced to sue the town for information pertaining to the Revolving Loan Fund.  In January of this year, the court ordered the town to provide me information pertaining to the Revolving Loan Fund.  I pointed out to the Judge, town attorney, and town manager there were two loans which were scheduled to be repaid in 2008 still on the Outstanding Revolving Loan Fund Portfolio.

 I understand that these loans were approved prior to Stephen Eldridge and Scott Benson being hired by the town.  However, these loans come directly under their supervision and one would have expected these two individuals to review and ensure all the items they are responsible for are present and up-to-date because you are talking about town funds being utilized.  Instead, I found out these loans were still outstanding and no one had taken action to resolve the issues. 

Now on July 10, 2012, I submitted a Freedom of Access Act (FOAA) requesting this list previously provided under court order be updated to include the newest loan approved by the town council.  I also knew there was an additional loan which was scheduled to be repaid in September 2011 and I wanted to know if it had been paid off.  I received a letter from Mr. Eldridge dated July 16th 2012 stating and I quote “The request for the information pertaining to outstanding loan documents has already been provided to you.  The information that you are requesting has not changed.  Should you have any questions please don’t hesitate to contact me.”  Apparently, the two loans scheduled to be paid off in 2008 and the one for September 2011 are still outstanding loans and the town has not processed the new loan yet.  I sent Mr. Eldridge an email asking him about these loans but have not received any response.

Now, I have requested a copy of the Credit Enhancement Agreements (CEA) for the six businesses currently under the Tax Increment Financing Program.  My request was denied stating I was not entitled to this information.  I contacted the State of Maine Director of the TIF program and she met with the Eldridge, town attorney (Roger Therriault) and Scott Benson.  After this meeting, I was provided four of the five CEA’s.  The town was still working on the fifth one and one was not active so no CEA was necessary.

One of the four I received was signed by Eldridge and effective April 1, 2004 which is more than four years before Eldridge was hired.  Apparently, the town was missing two of the CEAs and you ask why this is so important to the town.  The reason is the CEA is the contract between the town and these businesses and controls how much of our tax dollars are returned to each business.   About a week to ten days later I received the last one and it too was signed by Eldridge with an effective date of December 16, 2002.  The town has been making TIF payments to these businesses without a legal contract on file.

I have had to sue the town in order to get information.  I had to request the state step in to get information I was always entitled to; so please someone tell be how the two bullets in the town’s Mission Statement could possibly be accurate.  

Now, come the tough questions.  Is the town council aware of what is really going on in this town and are they supporting this type of behavior by the town manager?  Apparently, the town council is supporting the town manager because they continue to renew his contract.  Why does a citizen of Lisbon have to bring these discrepancies out to the town council instead of the town council monitoring our town funds?
 

Mr. Eldridge received a salary of over $91,000 of our tax dollars in 2011 and this mismanagement of town funds is what we get in return.  I do not believe we are getting our money’s worth from the town manager.  I believe the town council needs to take action to replace Eldridge and get a competent town manager.

The Truth about New Orleans - 2005

FEMA had a plane in the air that knew there were multiple levee breaches in New Orleans, but the information was not relayed to Louisiana emergency officials on the ground for twelve hours.

New Orleans firemen who rode out the 2005 storm in an office tower saw the breaches from their vantage point as they were occurring and were warned not to testify to what they they saw and when they saw it when they appeared before a Congressional investigative committee a few years later.

What was going on?

My best guess is that the Administration (Bush II) needed time to get its story straight. More specifically, the US Army Corps of Engineers whose incompetence and fraud was the reason for the levee failures, need time to muddy the waters with stories like:

* "Katrina did it" (Wrong: the city flooded many hours after Katrina passed);
* "New Orleans is below sea level" (Parts are and many parts aren't, just like New York City, London and Amsterdam);
* And this one which the Corps broadcast to blog discussion boards across the Internet while posing as "average citizens": New Orleaneans are no good and not worth worrying about. Besides, they're stupid and reckless to live where they live.

The Corps spent millions of tax payer dollars on overt PR and utilized a long standing, well developed network of local "opinion leaders" who tried to shout down and ridicule anyone who questioned The Official Story.

With these kinds of resources, it's almost impossible not to win the first battle with a massive sneak attack, but public knowledge and opinion is not a battle, it's a war - a long war - and as the Japanese Imperial Forces learned a few short years after Pearl Harbor, "winning" one battle conclusively on Day One does not mean winning the war.

Through a relentless, grassroots campaign, Levees.org (with help from Brasscheck), has trained careless journalists to stop calling the 2005 New Orleans disaster "Katrina" and call it was it is: the Federal Levee Failures.

It's placed permanent, unremovable historical markers at several breach sites telling present - and future - generations the real story.

Now, as you can see with this video, it's collaborated with several New Orleans institutions, including UNO, the University of New Orleans, to convert its self-guided historical bike tour into a free app that plays on smartphones. It lets interested people see and hear what happened to New Orleans in 2005 and why.

Congratulations to our friends in New Orleans. This is kind of push back is a model for the nation. (I can't wait to see what they come up with next.)
