Chief David Brooks has been terrorizing our community and controlling the politics in the Town of Lisbon for so many years to suit himself that it has scared people away from getting involved at the local level unless they are one of his buddies. He has consistently used threatening and intimidating behavior to ensure his control of the political process. His antics at the last Town Council meeting are exactly why we want to see this man retire AGAIN. We cannot build community until this man is gone and can no longer push his weight around. Why would anyone with ethics want to get involved if they had to deal with this man and his outlandish schemes to discredit those who stand up to him?
At the last Town Council meeting where Chief David Brooks put on his Oscar Award winning performance for the Council members who "got his back" and his employees, friends, and neighbors, he forgot one thing. You've met your match Brooks. Our recently elected Town Councilor, Roger Cote, did a fantastic job at keeping his kool, which is much more than what most of us would have done had we been on the receiving end of your political maneuvering and brow beating. Hats off to Councilor Cote for maintaining his professionalism and calling you out at the end for your Hollywood performance.
We learned a lot from this. Thank you Chief Brooks. You basically just ruined your "legacy" by asking the Attorney General to investigate your Police Department. You took hearsay evidence and turned it into an all out assault. You took one person's innocent concerned comments and turned it into something that it was not. You owe this person a big apology and it should occur in a public setting.
This person did not call the Attorney General and report these things about you, YOU called the Attorney General's office and put your police officers through the ringer to discredit volunteers at the local level who are not afraid to call a spade a spade. The funny thing about this whole thing is that we googled your name and Brian MacMaster's name and found that you are both part of the good ole boy's club, a.k.a. the Maine Chief's Association. There goes your credibility.
Brooks and MacMasters go way back. He thought he was above the law because he is the "senior" Chief of Police and MacMaster's "shudders" whenever he calls. You not only hurt your officers, your own reputation, and the Town of Lisbon but you also hurt Mr. MacMasters. And, believe us he knows all about your little stunt and Ms. Haggerty's YouTube videos. Thanks for the evidence Cheryl Haggerty of Haggerty Realty. This woman is a real estate agent and sits on the Planning Board, Lisbon style. If that isn't a conflict of interest, I don't know what is. Time for you to step down and step off, too, Ms. Haggerty.
And, last but not least, the most valuable lesson of all. House of Representative member Dale Crafts admitted that he knew what Brooks was going to do to Councilor Cote and that is the reason he did not attend the meeting. Mr. Crafts did not try and stop this before it happened. Mr. Crafts did not even have the guts to show up and demand that this unprofessionalism on the part of David Brooks stop. Instead, Mr. Crafts stayed home and avoided the situation like a damn coward. Is this who you want representing you in Augusta?
Criminals are dumb and that includes white collar criminals. I think that holds true in the case of the Town of Lisbon considering how incredibly inappropriate Chief Brooks is. Who in their right mind would do what this man did? Is he so arrogant that he thinks he is above the law to include the Attorney General because he is buddies with the investigator? Wow! He may be the Senior Chief in the State of Maine but he has been at the same Police Department his entire life. A police department that has never really dealt with any serious crime at all. He's a Barney Fife at best.
Chief Brook's friends reminded the audience of how safe Lisbon is on many occasions. Our crime is low but it is not because of Chief Brooks, it is because we live in a bedroom community made up mostly of working families and the retired elderly. One thing he did get right is that we are definitely anti-government when it comes to public officials like David Brooks. If you need some help writing that resignation letter, let us know. We have great writing skills if you can't tell. And, don't forget that letter of apology to both the citizen you trashed and to Councilor Cote.
